I've been pitching this kind of hardware to my friends for a while, this is the first that does something similar to full body force feedback. Something I personally believe is necessary for immersion in vr.
You definitely need to build an exit suit. I'd watch the 40 minute series on your progress and eventual full review. It's incredible. It being open source is even more amazing.
I'd really like to see actual measurements of the beyond's FOV. The stated FOV is honestly painful, given how good everything else is, but you mentioned in the first video about it that you've measured it higher, so I'd be interested to get more concrete numbers on what to expect.
Definitely this. Almost everywhere you look unfortunately everyone is immediately dismissing the Beyond because of the FOV. I'm used to the Quest 2 so if it's comparable the way I hear it is, then I can get down with it.
Oh wow. The Exit Suit is exactly the something I have been looking for to get back into VR since I injured my lower spine a few years ago. It would allow limited stand users like myself to actually get into, or back into, the VR space and play with our friends. Super excited to watch this project.
Could you test the Beyond for sleeping in VR? I always found the quest 2 too heavy/bulky for sleeping (especially because I roll a bit), but I'd still love to be able to fall asleep in some distant alien world
I feel that even if you were going to, you should test it with Echo VR because even if the game is shutting down, I still think it’s a good benchmark to test.
Oh hell yeah. Thanks for sharing this. I'm in the process of configuring full body and this fits the bill for both that and future android/robotics ventures ive got planned for the next couple years. I'll have to build this. I bet itd look even cooler in carbon fiber 😍 Open source ftw!
For the suit, try getting the cable running through the center like a front brake on a bmx bike and you won't have it getting tangled with your arms and legs. Great video!
Please Test Elite: Dangerous on the Bigscreen beyond. I am worried those reflection artifacts mentioned previously will be a distraction in a space sim.
Hey I’ve been wondering if you’d do a video on the wood rig! Saw it way back and have been following its creation! Glad to see it getting some much deserved attention ❤ Edit: Funny to see my insta comments in the video XD.
Been waiting (and trying to design) an exosuit for VR immersion. The only concern i have is with the leg/waist harness. These can cause issues with blood flow. Generally that is when they are used as saftey harnesses for window washers working on skyscrapers. That said I have been telling people that one of the requirements for full VR is to be able to convincingly jump from one ledge to another while feeling the ground drop from beneath your feet.
Great video Thrill! I got into VR the first week of Covid due to movie theaters closing. I’m a filmmaker and I generally go there the theaters once a week if I can. When I heard you could go to the movies in VR, I jumped on the VR train that same day. I now feel as it for many things, including gaming with family members who live in different states which is incredible to be able to do. Watching movies with family/friends is also such a special feeling. My as for you with your new BigScreen prototype is this: Can you watch a movie with your quest 2 using the bigscreen app, and then watch another movie with the new bigscreen headset and tell me(us) if there really is a huge difference in experience. I don’t have any previous vr hardware except for my quest 2 and my pc, so this would be a big investment. If the visuals are worth it, it’s something I would consider. Thank you for being awesome, I love your videos!
While I am still quite the newb to VR, only about 6 to 8 months, the Exit Suit appears to be something that would make VR even better. I still only have a room scale without full body tracking sensors at the moment, but am very interested in full body tracking and look forward to using something like a "Player One" setup that can create that more immersive experience.
Love your videos, thank you! I'm curious about the new bigscreen beyond headset: I completely understand that it is made for you, but how does it *actually* feel for it to be worn by someone else (assuming same IPD)? Is it just not comfy enough but still usable, or is it absolutely unbearable?
As someone who's been testing it: All of my blood relatives (brothers and sisters, parents, even nephews) have been able to wear and use mine comfortably. I can't attest to the quality of their experiences, as they aren't VR veterans who know how to describe what they experience in detail. But they definitely had a good time!
For friends: even if the IPD is similar, comfort can be anywhere from "fine" to "weird" to "uncomfortable", with potential for light leakage around the cushion. The cushion is also responsible for positioning the eyes relative to the optics, so someone using the wrong cushion may affect how well their eyes stay in the sweet spot.
That exo suit looks awesome! I can't wait until a standardized form of physical walking and fbt tech like that finally releases! Regarding bigscreen I mostly want to know how it looks and feels compared to other hmds. I like that you've tried many headsets and are really interested to know how it not only compares to entry level like quests but higher level hmds like index and beyond
Looks promising! They have some great ideas, looks like it should reduce fatigue as well. Though while it tries to tackle the walking problem, its still not quite there.
@@WillieWinklerI bet the simulation of flying would be awesome in this. To be fair this is one of the best takes on the walking problem. I almost feel with current tech that what feel more natural would be some sort of pedaling combined with this rig. It would take less energy than standing and using a treadmill and probably wouldn't actually feel that weird as an input. Though you might feel like your riding a unicycle everywhere lol.
@@WillieWinkler I could see a hybrid build that uses trackers on the feet and the exit skeleton unmounted and using a sort of suspension system to allow everything from walking to running to crawling! It would need a bit more work for the suspension to properly keep you in place without limiting movement up and down (maybe a similar skeleton to the exit to keep it from moving horizontally?). Plus software to correlate the hip and foot tracking for locomotion, but I feel like this would allow full movement (maybe even some yoga poses level of flexible) while still also allowing you to use feet to move. Suppose it's just an Idea, but definitely going to try it out once I can get all the equipment!
God, the exit suit looks amazing! If I had any real space for anything more than playing Vr on my bed, I'd be considering putting one together just to see what its like.
100%. Been testing it, and was showing coworkers a new trick in Fusion360 the other day all while using it and being able to read every text element of the GUI.
My biggest dream is to just be able to go into VR laying down from my bed, full functionality, thats it, thanks for the videos as always and if you ever change the outro I'll cry! 😭
Question of the week: Do you think a sword art online type of VR would ever be possible? Essentially using the human brain as the VR headset putting the user into a dream-like state, as well as the computational power? Just needing to find a way to somehow transfer data and instructions to the brain.
I'd love to see you try the Beyond as a monitor replacement. Related, would love to see a video on working in VR, maybe reviewing Simula OS or Immersed
You could build a gaming PC and use the quest 2 for a long time with Virtual Desktop. It's a really easy experience with good wifi and steam. Come jump in the big boy pool where Meta doesn't determine your future. You can start with something like a 2070 or 3060 off ebay.
Love your Introduction video. So relaxing and gets me ready to listen. Feel like I have my own coffee and I can't drink it anymore. Thats a good thing.
hi thrill i love your vids i got a queast 2 becouse of them and i have one question can you put the games your playing in the bacround in the describtion of evry video
Does look good, it's relative simplicity makes it easier to be adopted. Be interesting to see a crouching mechanic. I would definitely try to sort one out.
From someone who works at a wood shop with a cnc. That would at the bare minimum cost $2,500. Programming the shapes of the parts into the computer would take a day at least and cutting would take half and than there’s sanding and finish which is another day added. That’s also if you can find a shop that will take on such a unique and small job
Hey Thrill, in regards to the Bigscreen beyond, can you test in the frametime performance with a few different games? I'm curous to see if you see significant performance drops with the more demanding games. Thanks.
I know this is a longshot, but a cool game to try would be KINGSPRAY GRAFFITI. There is a community behind the simulator and since the devs have left us hanging (for basically years at this point...with no communication) we started making our own maps and trying to fix / figure out what we can with what we got. I would love to see how this game look and feels on the Bigscreen Beyond ✌
Been imagining a very similar thing for many years with all the benefits and current challenges to full immersion plus way more, solved. Like telepresence, recording and experiencing other peoples full body recordings which could train you or be therapeutic, or as a workout device, to nteracting waay more intimately across distance with other users or the real world . I can see people spending 10k on a system like this since it solves so much in one thing, or even lease it like a car. Even as a vegas attraction or hourly reservation, you get people hooked very fast i think, plus really entertaining twitch/youtube streaming material. The humanoid robot field could eventually be very synergetic with this exosuit / vr stuff, bringing costs down for both
Thanks for the new video! My biggest question for the Beyond, since it's bare minimum, is how to fill out the rest of the system. My Index is simultaneously the best VR Headset, Monitor, Headphones, and Microphone I own. When you're actually playing something like VRChat, what do you add to it? Has Bigscreen shared any information with you about the potential audio strap? Does supporting the entire headset on your eyes like goggles feel more or less comfortable after hours of playtime, or would you prefer a more supportive strap like the index or a halo like the PSVR? My friend's biggest concern has been the FOV, she doesn't want to upgrade from her index until they release something wider than 110, so stepping back to ~90 is almost a deal breaker. Do you notice this reduced FOV when in actual use?
Morning Thrill, just saw a Bigscreen Beyond review where the removed the facial gasket and were able to get a larger FOV and bigger sweet spot without any video clarity loss. Can you give this a try and see if a thinner gasket would be better?
What game are you using as background footage? looks fun! Also it kinda blows my mind that VR is moving closer and closer to the Ready Player One standard this fast. Keep up the great work Thrill!
I instantly know what this video is about, the Exit Suit. I found this project through Lucas's VR Glove's video's comments. It's a cool concept, but kinda goofy to me personally.
the exit suit looks to be made of high quality plywood ( 2-3 sheets of birch or baltic birch plywood which is around $90 a sheet ) the assembly time may be 2 hours but the cutting out the pieces, routing the edges, and finishing with polyurethane or paste wax or whatever will take 10-20 hours. If you can order parts cut on a cnc router then closer to 10hrs. The exit suit would be better if it was slung from an over arm support and paired with a omni directional treadmill ( the walking/running doesn't look great )
As someone who wants the beyond for VRChat full body tracking, the only thing I'd really ask is to test how well it pairs and tracks with different full body tracking trackers and the valve index controllers. But you were probably gunna do that anyway.
Great update! Really looking forward to the Beyond, do you have any sim racing setup - dedicated PCVR for sim racing is huge for me and others, would love to have something with a larger field of view, great refresh rates and highest pixel per degree they can manage (Sim racing is all about how far you can see in the virtual world).
I thought you were not gonna do newsday videos anymore lol. I feel like you go back and forth every month on this. I enjoy all your content though so I am not complaining. Thank you for the vid.
I've just started getting into game development and vr game is something I've reeeeaally started getting interested in. Can't wait to see how this all goes down.
Really great video! But I wanted to point out that today I saw a commercial for the metaverse for my first time on live television. I'm not doubting that the idea of the metaverse is much less prominent now days, but this is something to consider.
Nothing matters more to me than wider peripherals, in my opinion. Refresh rates and pixel count have been good enough for me already (of course more is always welcome lol) is there any chance you know the view angle for this tiny little cool one? Thanks! Love your videos mate!!
That exit suit is just wicked!! it could potentially solve many problems in VR. they've got a sub extra. Could you check how the new headset works in the sim or non-game apps? For example check text readability, performance on standard game PC and sound solutions plz! Apple calling it "a macintosh moment" promises a lot for me. Apple VR could be a new way of working, which the mac also introduced to a lot of ppl back in the day. I hope that Apple focuses on comfort and usability with the power of some m2x processors. Apple could be introducing design for VR unlike anything currently available. I'll try to be an early adopter if the budget allows it. Wonder if SteamVR will be available on Launch on mac.
I will be setting up a new HMD system later this year, Big Screen Beyond is in the running for what I get. Very much looking forward to a review from folks I trust.
OMG...I have a woodshop. I can feel this happening to me. You should call this episode 'Drink Me'. I have to listen to white rabbit while looking at specs now. So, thanks? I guess.
I need more thrillseeker content, I’m sitting waiting for the next video checking every few days 🤣 I was disappointed today to see nothing yet, keep up the incredible work, you need a big team! Pump it out non stop lol
Biggest thing I want to know about the Beyond. Is it going to replace your Index? If it is, I'm replacing my original HTC Vive with it. If not, well, maybe I'll wait a little longer for what's around the corner. Love the vids!
Hey, I got a couple of suggestions about the beyond headset video, I'd like to see mic comparisons and if it works on Linux. You said previously it's steamvr so I don't see why it wouldn't work for Linux, but I'd love to get back into VR after switching my OS.
This platform spine support should have a vertical y axis movement. So it moves up and down via spring systems as you walk around, this way it can help you feel full range of natural mechanics of walking. Otherwise you'll feel like your stuck to a stick, which is exactly what it is, but the sensation of it can be minimized by having he spine tube at the base be a bit more springy moving up and down
Hey Thrill, Thanks for the great VR overview. Living in a warmer climate, I'd be curious as to how ventilation about the new headset is. I seem to always collect a lot of sweat around my eyes and face using the Quest 2.
I know I'm wanting to build one. Kinda seems like it puts a Katwalk to shame.. will have to see!

Taste simulation… you know, a taste module would be cool. I wonder how those chips that are in every other movie VRChat world tastes like.
I just bought some new wood working tools. Nice.
I would be interest to know if the Bigscreen Beyond is sharp and comfortable enough to read text on a virtual desktop and maybe even do some work
100%. Been testing it, and was showing coworkers a new trick in Fusion360 the other day all while using it and being able to read every text element of the GUI.
The sensation of flying in pop one with the Exit suit has to be so trippy lol. I'd love to build one!
If it’s Tuesday newsday on a Tuesday you know it is a good one.
One word: NeuraLink
It's called a BCI (brain-computer interface) if you want to look into it. I'm sure thrill has talked about it.
We would need huge leaps in neuroscience to be able to override our senses
I'd love to see you try the Beyond as a monitor replacement. Related, would love to see a video on working in VR, maybe reviewing Simula OS or Immersed
can we just give this guy thanks for our entire weeks worth of vr news?
Definitely gonna be following the exit suit. Thanks for sharing!
QOTW: How much longer do you think Meta will be supporting the Quest 2?
You could build a gaming PC and use the quest 2 for a long time with Virtual Desktop. It's a really easy experience with good wifi and steam. Come jump in the big boy pool where Meta doesn't determine your future. You can start with something like a 2070 or 3060 off ebay.
Love your Introduction video. So relaxing and gets me ready to listen. Feel like I have my own coffee and I can't drink it anymore. Thats a good thing.
The Knuckles bleep in the intro hits SOOOO right 🙏 makes me wanna hop on vrc after watching
hi thrill i love your vids i got a queast 2 becouse of them and i have one question can you put the games your playing in the bacround in the describtion of evry video
Does look good, it's relative simplicity makes it easier to be adopted. Be interesting to see a crouching mechanic. I would definitely try to sort one out.
We think there’s room for a sprung floor to help with crouching and sitting lower down. Excited to work with the community to develop this
From someone who works at a wood shop with a cnc. That would at the bare minimum cost $2,500. Programming the shapes of the parts into the computer would take a day at least and cutting would take half and than there’s sanding and finish which is another day added. That’s also if you can find a shop that will take on such a unique and small job
My one concern is safety. Is that support rod gonna snap?
Hey Thrill, in regards to the Bigscreen beyond, can you test in the frametime performance with a few different games? I'm curous to see if you see significant performance drops with the more demanding games. Thanks.
I know this is a longshot, but a cool game to try would be KINGSPRAY GRAFFITI. There is a community behind the simulator and since the devs have left us hanging (for basically years at this point...with no communication) we started making our own maps and trying to fix / figure out what we can with what we got. I would love to see how this game look and feels on the Bigscreen Beyond ✌
the beyond headset looks sick, looking forward to the review!
and thanks for choosing my meme, didn't expect to see it lmao
Been imagining a very similar thing for many years with all the benefits and current challenges to full immersion plus way more, solved. Like telepresence, recording and experiencing other peoples full body recordings which could train you or be therapeutic, or as a workout device, to nteracting waay more intimately across distance with other users or the real world . I can see people spending 10k on a system like this since it solves so much in one thing, or even lease it like a car. Even as a vegas attraction or hourly reservation, you get people hooked very fast i think, plus really entertaining twitch/youtube streaming material. The humanoid robot field could eventually be very synergetic with this exosuit / vr stuff, bringing costs down for both
The exoskeleton looks like my dream VR setup, damn. Imagine playing that Attack on Titan VR game in that thing... O_O
That's what I thought ;)
Also, you time put into editing and story gathering is really shining!
Reminds me of the Space Jockey from the Alien/Prometheus films
I'm reminded of a flash game I loved Exit Run, and now I'm imagining playing a VR version in the Exit Suit. Shit would be terrifying lmao
This is a crazy week for vr news! Despite some recent setbacks it seems like there are a lot of exciting things on the horizon for the future of VR
I think it's The Light Brigade, vr roguelike that came out recently
@@gillgamesh4465 Thank you!
You make the best VR videos, simply the best, thank you so much.
oooh the exit suit is cool both in function but also aesthetics! looks like something out of a horror movie but like, in a good way
I love this so much. I really hope this pans out and is half as cool as it looks.
Related to the Beyond, I'm most intrigued by the brightness of the panels and if there's any Mura effect as seen on the PSVR2
8:06 funny you say that the first thing I thought was Cronenbergs Crimes of the Future
The exit suit would be better if it was slung from an over arm support and paired with a omni directional treadmill ( the walking/running doesn't look great )
The exitsuit looks like something Hannibal lector would be strapped to. I think they need to work the image a bit, but otherwise looks promising
The exit suit is unavidably going to be a bit more complex than Thrill makes it sound, but it's still fun tech.
As someone who wants the beyond for VRChat full body tracking, the only thing I'd really ask is to test how well it pairs and tracks with different full body tracking trackers and the valve index controllers. But you were probably gunna do that anyway.
my dude, I can't wait until the average VR setup just looks like a scorn screenshot
I love open-source projects and this one is by far one of the coolest.
Awesome! My only 2 concern is the sturdiness of it, and the bottom bit being too rigid. But have to try myself!
I have a CNC router machine so if you get the plans I'd be happy to help you out and get things cut out for you.
So, thanks? I guess.
YEAAA FUSION WOOOO
Every Tuesday Newsday seems to be some sort of new fu body power glove that looks more like a full suit of t-45 power armor
Great video. I know you love VR technology, will you be doing a video about the HIG-M4 VR Haptic Gun and the HIGVR Data Glove?
Hey, I got a couple of suggestions about the beyond headset video, I'd like to see mic comparisons and if it works on Linux. You said previously it's steamvr so I don't see why it wouldn't work for Linux, but I'd love to get back into VR after switching my OS.
This platform spine support should have a vertical y axis movement. So it moves up and down via spring systems as you walk around, this way it can help you feel full range of natural mechanics of walking. Otherwise you'll feel like your stuck to a stick, which is exactly what it is, but the sensation of it can be minimized by having he spine tube at the base be a bit more springy moving up and down
That design gives me Crimes Of the Future vibes.
Hey Thrill,
Thanks for the great VR overview.
Living in a warmer climate, I'd be curious as to how ventilation about the new headset is. I seem to always collect a lot of sweat around my eyes and face using the Quest 2.
