  • ℹ️ During WWII, the German military developed unique camouflage designs for their troops. The "Plane Tree" camouflage was one of them and the name arises from the Sycamore tree or Planetree (bark's colors and shape). They wanted a natural foliage appearance by using dotted patterns.

    Amazing work as always. Looking forward to the leather tutorial as well. Do you usually paint the leather equipment first like you did here. Its a really great idea. I really like how you keep your paint pallet so simple. So many other great figure painters mixed multiple different colors to make one shade of paint.

    • @jaumeortiz4767
      @jaumeortiz4767 2 роки тому +1

      Hi Shawn!...yes, in this case I painted leather first. It helps to identify the camouflage zones better. I try always to keep my pallet simple, specially when painting camouflage. Vallejo has a wide range of colors suitable for every part of your figure, and they are mixed already, so, no need to make complicated mixes for painting.

    I like this video because what I am seeing in this video covers some of the paints / colors and techniques that would be used to paint Pea Dot camouflage (for Warlord Games - Bolt Action - Panzer Grenadiers - autumn 1944 / winter 1944 - 1945), even though this video appears to be about some other type of camouflage (Plantermuster - 1943?).
    It seams like the Waffen SS wore a different camouflage patterns / colors for every year of the war: they re-used colors to some extent.

    • @vallejocolors
      @vallejocolors  2 роки тому

      This camo pattern had two different variations: spring and autumn :)

      I am replying to my own comment with spelling corrections, German to English translations, a date correction, and a Wikipedia reference that lists most (maybe all) of the German camouflage patterns with colored photos.
      ---
      Platanenmuster is the German concatenation of the words "Plane Tree pattern" which was mostly used from 1937-1942.
      Erbsenmuster is the German concatenation of the words "Pea Dot pattern" which was mostly used from 1944-1945 (I think as early as May 1944 to the end of the war on 8 May 1945.)
      See the following link for other types of camouflage that the Waffen SS might have worn. And sometimes they would "mix and match" camouflage pieces: trousers, tunics, ponchos, and helmut covers.

    Fantastic work. I just want to ask one question. Like the spring and summer camouflage pattern painting in the video, do you use the brown and black wash for the autumn and winter plane tree camo? I have a dark green, dark brown and black vallejo wash thanks for the nice 1/35 video. b^오^b

    One Question not specifically related to this fella, but I play a German army in Bolt Action.
    Where can I find some reference photos for the Puma? All I can find are b&w photos. Which are great for the load out add ons but not for a good came pattern/colors if any.

    • @vallejocolors
      @vallejocolors  Рік тому

      Hello RRL4245! Each artist paints in very different conditions so you must add retarders or thinner in case you need it (warmer temperatures or low humidity - summer). If this happens, you can add a drop of Medium Retarder to the colors :)

    Your paintjob looks great, but the dark colour of the spring/summer version of plane tree is wrong. It should be black/green instead of black/brown which would be correct for the autumn version.

    • @jaumeortiz4767
      @jaumeortiz4767 Рік тому

      Hi there!. Although black green is the common shade for the third main color in German spring version camos, if you look at the reference image you'll notice the darker blotches are more black brown color. That's why I used it, trying to match the example colors.. Thanks for your comment.

      @Hori_Ado Рік тому

      @@jaumeortiz4767 The thing is I don't need to look at referrence photos since I own several original SS camo items and trust me, the darkest colour is black green.

    I am confused, why when you produce a paint set for this camo you don't use it? Vallejo Model Color Waffen SS Camouflage Acrylic Paint Set has different colours/shades as well, why would you not promote that? I brought it.
