cant wait till the timemachine is invented ,and we can travel back to pick one up for aprox 400 bucks
And you will be making $60 a week, with overtime.
@@billstotts2346just go back for the horn
@@billstotts2346in todays money, that’s 760 a week. For a 40 hour work week with, let’s say, 5 hours overtime, that’s about 17 bucks an hour. Not ideal, but it’s not like you are working In the mines.
When somebody eventually sees the date on the money
@@Komodo...Nah, the store clerk won’t notice. You give him the cash, take the horn, get out there. You go back far enough and nobody will notice what you’ve done.
I paid $485 for my Mark VI tenor in 1973. From Zep Misner in Burbank, CA.
I don't remember going to Zep's in 1973, but I do remember Baxter Northup in Van Nuys , and I spent a lot of time trying mouthpieces at Dick Charles' Music in Pasadena.
I knew a guy who was in the navy stationed in Europe. He took a bus to Paris in 1939 and bought a Selmer Balanced Action, silver plate. It took my breath away to see it.
I was able to play one in high school also. Thank you to my band director!
When I was in high school, I saw Eric with Chick Corea’s Electric Band in Houston. He signed a reed for me and was so nice to me. I saw him laughing with John Patitucci because it was pretty bizarre I guess to have this kid ask for an autograph on a reed. I’ll never forget how humble and nice a guy Eric was to me way back then. True story! Great saxophonist and person!
Eric Marienthal: legendary musician and sax player!! God bless you, Eric! Thanks for all you did and do for the good music.
I'd like to know where he got one for $420! Eric is year younger than I am and I paid $620 to Marshall Music in Lansing, MI in 1972 for my Mark VI. Like him, I really didn't know what I was buying and didn't know what I had until I got to college.
I know a guy here in Philly that bought a Mark VI alto, brand new in 74 for $450
Eric Marienthal has influenced my playing probably more than anyone else who is still active. I'll have to watch this whole video.
I went back to his music book after many years on the book shelf and now really enjoy it because I understand what it does in its teaching!!
My Alto was my moms when she played in highschool… it’s a 1960’s mark VI also.. beautiful horn!! Unfortunately it’s not being played now a days 😢
Oooh it's being played, just not made any longer. It's the most desired horn for a lot of saxophonists, including mine. Used to play my HS Band Director's in class.
@@SaxandfifthsI think you didn’t get what he was saying.
@@Saxandfifths
Loved getting to play with Eric a few years back. I'm sticking with my YAS-62IIS though. I paid $2000 for it in 2012-2013 and it's still amazing.
i liked playing the 62II/62III better than the custom z/ex by far
Same exact story since I’m Eric’s age. Mark VI brand new, $400, Mannys in NYC 60% discount for my sax teacher passed on to me
My dad gave a saxophone which I didn’t know he had stored in his loft for many years. Cut a long story short, I rocked up at college for beginners saxophone class.
It was only then i realised I was in possession of Selmer VI Tenor 1956 with high F#.
My Mark VI alto was $800 in 1982 at NTSU
yes,It was that cheap even in Malaysia in those time
😣
And that vintage beechler is so legit! Jeez. Eric Marienthal is a badass!
My 1964 MARK VI was $160 in 2022, I know that’s crazy to believe but it came with the original case, original mouthpiece and Berg Larsen vintage mouthpiece.
Wow. How?
LOVE THIS CATT❣️❣️❣️ .....AND HIS UNIQUE SOUND AND STYLE ON THE SAXX🎵🔥🎷🔥🎵
Bought my 220 series tenor new back in ‘74. Still have the hand written receipt from the music store, $485.00. Adjust for inflation estimated cost today, $3120.00. I still have it.
Wow. In 1974 I looked at a new Conn Artist tenor. At $700 I decided I couldn't afford it. Admittedly this was Canadian dollars, but the exchange wasn't all that high. Of course our taxes were much higher, including a federal "manufacturer's sales tax" of 12% that was hidden in prices in those days.
In 1977 my teacher told me to be prepared to spend between 1 to 2 weeks wages to buy a professional sax. Now it's about 1 to 2 months wages.
You are lucky, in countries like Guatemala you have to work for more than a year to be able to have one. I'm talking about the average worker.
AWESOME. 🎷. PERFORMANCE.
19 years old in 1982. Bach Stradivarius 37 Bb trumpet. $550 purchased brand new from Manny’s on 48th Street in NYC. Pawned in Virginia Beach in 1990 for money to feed my infant daughter. Relocated to Florida that year for a work opportunity, never was able to reclaim my horn. Somewhere someone is still reminiscing about that pawn shop acquisition.
I saw this man play live in weatherford OK I swear my and my other jazz guys during the state comp were losing our minds to this man’s solos.
Mestre Eric Marienthal. Show jazz.
$420 in in 1974 is equivalent to $2,800 today.
and they are sellinig for between 16,000 and 25,000 USD today
@@3RTracing You can definitely get them cheaper than that.
Selmer Mk VI altos currently go for between 16,000 and 25,000 USD depending on condition. I am sure that Eric's is in perfect, playable condition.
Yall are amazing!
$420 Selmer VI - LOVE IT!!!
What did that amount to in the period currency versus the latest inflation adjustment?
Selmer V I, too funny. I wish I could buy a new one for $420.
And I just paid 10 grand for my Mark VI 😅
that was a very good deal, they are selling for between 16,000 and 25,000 online
50 years later, I'd say that it was worth the money.
Comment how much you paid for your Selmer Mark VI and the year! Full interview with Eric Marienthal here:

No Mark VI but I got a Yani WO1 around a year ago and it's lovely. Thank you for the recommendation!
I've got my tenor Mark VI silver plated (I guess), 2nd hand, in 1999 or 2000 for about 1,500.00€.
I've recently got it overhauled for 1,100.00€.
That's how Iron Man Mark VI got its name.😅
$420 for a Mark VI? Not in my wildest dreams! We can call it serendipity.
Adjust for inflation.
no clue what my tenor is but it cost 10 grand 😭 well actually 1200 since they haven’t billed me another payment in 4 years
I bought my Mark VI tenor new in 1973 for $500, case, case cover, tax, Selmer D mpc all included. I watched as the years went by and the value went up. This is only because Selmer threw out the dies.
Could anyone name the song in this short
What is the song in the background, I haven’t been able to find it?
$420 in the early to mid 70s is equivalent to about $3k today. Selmer Supreme start at around $9k. 😳
That’s crazy how we have to dang near buy a car to get decent sax
If he got his horn in 1970, $420 equates to $3,292.10. $20 a month would be the same as $156.77 today.
420 for a mark VI si brutal
Now its $4,200 sometimes its $4,200 times 2 or times 3.
I got my Axos for 3800 😢
Same kind of sax or literally the same piece? I mean guitar players need to hear from this guy, show me one legendary guitar player without 60 guitars or something 😂
But according to one of your videos reviewing the new Selmer, players like Marienthal only play Mark VI because their idols played it.
Think you may have missed something.
@@bettersax In your video "Is the Selmer Supreme the New Mark VI" you said, " The reason any saxophone player wants to play a Mark VI is because they want a piece of that jazz history, they want the legend... There is no good reason for Selmer to make the Mark VI, nobody would really want a brand new Mark VI."
A MARK 6 FOR 400 BUCKS??????
I bought my mark VI for 150$ in April lol
I'll give ya $450 for it. Come on, that's $30 profit! ;)
Lol!
Sadly, these dollars are not those dollars. What we could buy stuff for then vs. now tells us more about the value of the currency than the value of the stuff.
Inflation is how we measure the lie that's inherent in fiat currency, as well as how insistently that lie is spoken by governments that drive it.
Yea now in 2024 they are vintage saxophones back in those times they were cheapper now a days they cost 10k but i dont really like the sound of them horns they sound too old school too much round sound
Just think. Nowadays we are paying 1,500 dollars for a mouthpiece
I don't wanna hear that lol
