      @@SatishIITR sir in the new irc code (irc sp 135 2022) design of hot bituminous mixes there is a provision of film thickeness of Bitumen between aggregate to validate binder content. And it refers "Shell Bitumen Handbook" to understand the calculation of film thickness. Could you please make a video on this topic. And in this new irc sp 135 fines to bitumen ratio has also been changed to 0.8 to 1. Previously it was 0.6 to 1.2.

      @@happening2023 Film thickness is not the criterion for deciding the OBC, it is a step for verification. I am currently making one video on Bituminous Concrete and will discuss these two points also. Thanks

    Sir is it correct to spray stone dust containing lime or hydrated lime after laying and rolling of Bituminous Concrete??? Some are saying one should and some saying it's not good

      sprinkling of dust+lime is done just to avoid loss of bitumen to the vehicle tyre if traffic is opened immediately after compaction of the layer. However, there is no such requirement as per specifications, but in that case traffic should be allowed after the mat has cooled down to ambient temperature.

      The QC engineer told that as the bitumen heats up due to temperature or traffic, the bitumen will come up towards the road surface, then if you have put dust on it, it will not be a proper seal and if you have not put dust the surface will be properly sealed. The dust or lime doesn't have bitumen coating over it so it'll also create rutting and ravelling that's why you don't put lime dust on it is it correct ???

    Sir In order to perform sieve analysis of OGPC what sieves should be used for quality control purposes
    And is there any prescribed limits of percentage passing of materials on these sieves

      NO, in the case of OGPC, quanitites sepcified in the specifications is for 10 sqm area of the road and these are in volumes. For example, P22.4 and R11.2 should be 0.18 cum and P13.2 R 5.6 should be 0.09 cum for 10 sqm of road surface. If you take same specific gravity of the aggreates of two sizes, then their weight should be in the ratio of 2:1. It means Aggregates passing 22.4 and Retained on 13.2 should be 66 percent. But there is no mention in the MoRTH or MoRD book about this.
