That Flammang sounds great! I first heard of him about 10 years ago. He lives a few towns from my in-laws. I have also been awed by how many different styles he builds. I first saw one in the wild about 5 years ago on American Idol.
Can we take a moment to appreciate the Intro and then the Theme music and so brilliantly craftes comic intro which ends so well with guitar atiff with johhnnn. I mean aeverytime I see your video I wait for it I think its your wife's voice and its refreshing and just makes me chuckle everytime, Yeah I know guitar and how ll theyll always find ways in our lives but man the intro so intriguing it made me a subscriber the 1st time a saw it instantly. This is so genious I mean when did ppl forget to do the music and videos for sake of enjoying and spreading joy. I love your work Sir I absolutely do I ve never seen my grandfather neither paternal nor maternal but when I look through your videos I just feel at home and so great this must be what it feels like you must be the coolest Grand Dad ever I presume. ❤
I bought a Roger Schmidt Brickhouse Bridgeport guitar because of you. I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER!!! I'd thought me Yamaya L16M was the finest guitar I could buy, all in, for < $765. Roger showed me I was wrong. This Bridgeport sounds like multi multi thousands of bespoke luthier gutar!! I'll never not love me Yamaha's, but Roger's axe now rules me life!!! So abover and beyond. Not even close. Thank you, Sean
15 fiddles of all sizes, 3 bouzoukis, 3 mandolins, 1 5-string banjo, 1 Irish banjo, 2 baritone ukes, 3 Appalachian dulcimers, Bodhran, keyboard, piano, metal toungue drum, wooden tongue drum, b/c button accordion, harmonicas plus too many random drums and percussion instruments to name. No, I'm not a music shop, I'm just crazy. Haha, forgot the 7 guitars. Love you, JP
J.P. I watched you on that video with Chapman trying out all those acoustics- when you picked up the Flammang’ and started playing your expression was obvious!!! And the tone was obvious. I could tell that guitar was killer. Side note. With minimal Tools. I have crafted just 5 Flat tops since 1989. Labor of love for me. All 5 guitars were created using my small stash of Very old seasoned woods. I have 3 sets of old Brazilian left. 2 sets of old Flamed maple a d 2 sets of Walnut left. Handful of Old Adirondack, Engleman’, and Sitka. The woods been seasoning for decades now. I’ve restored countless vintage Martin,Gibsons. I might get around to using up my stash of woods. Takes me almost a year to craft one. Getting up in age. Labor of love
Great episode. A couple of years ago I purchased a custom guitar (12 fret dreadnaught) from a local luthier in Cumming Georgia. His name is Rick Gunn and his brand is Rose Creek guitars. Mine was the 61st guitar he had ever made and it is a family heirloom guitar. It plays and sound fantastic. When people come to my house that may not know a lot about guitars, they are amazed by the sound of my Rose Creek. I really identified with your admiration for small luthiers. They can produce the best guitars on the planet.
My dad told me the meaning of success when I was a teenager. He said "Son, you will know you are successful when your friends or family asks you if you can help them move, and you can pull out your checkbook and say, 'Sure, how much help do you need?'". Unfortunately, I have found an updated definition. I will be successful when I can purchase every guitar you showcase on this channel. Such a vanishingly small chance of success though...
Just one word.... WOWWWWWW!!!!! What an instrument......!!!! Became my favourite concluding the Sg-163 Jumbo Boucher.... Thanks JP for showing such beauties!!!!❤❤❤
I bought the Flammang P35 Parlor at the Fretboard Summit and the hubs bought the 00-60. Cannot put them down. Looking forward to seeing you next year at Summit.
There has not been a time that I have not learned something from you. You unlocked Open G tuning for me and I bought a Yamaha LS16 DT. I now know the meaning of a well-built guitar. Thanks from another born and bred Maritimer.
I am living proof that GAS can be controlled. I haven't bought a guitar for at least 4 months! And more important, I started playing guitar 59 years ago at age 10 but I have only been on the brink of BK for about 49 of those years. Sadly, those have been the 49 years since I moved away from home. That Flemang you just demo'd is, to my ear, the finest guitar I have ever heard you play. And you have played a plethora of practically perfect plectrum picking piece projectors. I first heard a Flemang when Jorma Kaoukenon played his on one of his on a pandemic lockdown youtube show at Fur Peace Ranch. It was another J-45 copy and it is amazing. Jorma quickly purchased a 2nd Flemang. I have been a believer ever since. I also watch Tony's Acoustic Tuesday show and he told his side of the "Flaming Incident" on a recent episode. Wish a Flemang was in my budget. I would be overjoyed to play and own one. BTW - I found you from one of Tony's shows where he demo'd the original JP Cormier Signature Bouchez - a 12 fret small body beauty. Fell in love with that guitbox also and looked you up to find the man who inspired it. My first exposure to you was your video of Hometown Battlefield. Been hooked ever since.
I've only been watching for about a yr ... having said that, that may very well be one of the best sounding guitars you've ever had on this channel. Sounds beautiful. I love the deeper tones so... very nice. I'm going to look them up right now.
The High-resolution secret to that Guitar's beautiful Sound is the exact NECK RELIEF and the perfect FRET-CROWN Work. 99% of the Time I could only hear Clear Notes without the Distracting Fret Crown Buz on most High-End Guitars.
Just love this... I bought a Boucher on your recommendation JP because I was playing 3 hours a day and couldn't beat to subject my Flammang to that kind of use. To see you own and play one of David's guitars now is a treat.
JP you showcase some of the finest guitars made in the entire world. You also seem to construct a relationship with these Builders and they all seem thrilled to have you showcase their instruments. I wouldn’t have the opportunity to see and hears these fantastic guitars. Just sending out a big thank you for all you do for the guitar community.
Ok you got me!! This is now my new favorite of all the guitars you have displayed.. My jaw dropped even lower than when you first strummed that Alvarez-Yairi mahongy even lower than the first Boucher you presented. All canons with character and personality. BUT… when you first strummed this guitar my jaw dropped to the floor.
I play a Jimmy Edmonds D28 Brazilian. He builds phenomenal guitars! His shop is in Galax Virginia. I’ve played many luthier made guitars and Edmonds is second to none! If you ever get a chance to play one it will blow your mind how good they are!
Wonderful review & welcome back sir! I’m saving my allowance for a Boucher but once I reach that goal, this builder’s instrument would be a extraordinary addition. Be well & hope to see you back in the Kingston area someday soon.
Wow - Mr JP wanted to message directly with little old me! Wonderful -... hmmmm, it would be terrific, but I somehow doubt it. Frigg'en scammers Hey the REAL JP, hugs from Nancy & I. Hope you'll pass by Kingston again soon. Cheers!
JP, Parkway is my local guitar store. Tommy and Matt run a great shop and are salt of the earth people. I have seen Krakat guitars there before but honestly never considered them too seriously......until now. I'll be there after work today checking them out much more closely. Thank you.
JP, I have no idea what you're talking about, I started playing the Ukulele just over 1 year ago, and I own 5 of them today. I started playing the guitar a few weeks ago, I already own 2 and have my eye open for new additions. I told my wike the uke was a gateway drug. I enjoy your music and videos, keep up the good work.
If I'm not mistaken, the fingerboard and bridge are made of Ziricote. It figure looks a bit like Rosewood but the grain structure tells me it's Ziricote. Check with Mr. Flammang and I'm confident he will confirm it.
Trying to fight GAS myself. I finally learned what it meant. I think I'm getting it. Still I only have one great on. Don Musser who had never built more than 10 a year & is down to about half that now. My bridge is Ocelot Ear (Pau Santo/ African Blackheart)& it can resemble Ziricote but it is on the Janka with Ebony. I'd agree the bridge esp does not look like rosewood. Would lean toward Ziricote. I have seen is used for fretboard & bridge.
The back and sides certainly sound like a typical Mahogany instrument absent the mass-produced homogeneity. It sounds wonderful. The most stunning guitar (and yes, stunning) I've heard or seen on your channel is the Boucher Jumbo you played and purchased. I expressed polite envy (intense envy) at your good fortune to pick up such an instrument. This instrument is very nice and what many people wish Gibson would build.
Hey JP! Big fan from North Sydney, Nova Scotia! Just discovering bluegrass and all these crazy players and its really opened my eyes. Been binging Tony Rice, Clarence White and your videos. I just bought a Larrivee D60 and I'm in love! Are you going to review/play any Larrivee guitars in the future?
I'm finally getting my Boucher Bluegrass goose to sound more like I expected it to months ago, based on your review of it. Lol Finally. It's still a ways from my D28 Authentic sound tho.
That's outstanding, slope shoulder dreadnoughts are fantastically versatile and comfortable to play, there are so many builders doing better versions than Gibson, don't get me wrong you will find the odd Gibson that sounds great but the odds are against that, I have an Eastman E6SS-TC that is an understandably great slope shoulder and I love it 😊
J.P., nice hat.Your amazing playing overrides any shitty strings on the guitar. Flammang has an amazing reputation. I have yet to play one. I sure want to!!!
G.A.S. - Guitar Acquisition Syndrome - hogwash. No such thing. I have been playing since I was 14 years old. I own just one guitar (if you ignore all the other guitars) and don't suffer from G.A.S. I can stop anytime I want to. Being a guitar player, thankfully, I am not one step from bankruptcy (Bank account balance $0.46? Who needs to eat? Ring up that guitar, please). I don't have a problem. I play, I purchase, I starve - no problem.
You always taunt people about the expensive prices of the big three. But this supposed quiet builder in the countryside is more than a challenge to them price wise. I don't care if he stains it with his sweat. 5K + for a guitar is beyond the reach of the average guy. Unless you're a youtuber who gets a sweet deal. You always seem to leave out the prices on these guitars you rave so much about.
He doesn't taunt anyone. Some of his shows are about high end instruments and some aren't. If you feel like you have put in the work and deserve a nice guitar then make it a priority, sell your other stuff and save some money. That's how I got a Boucher.
do you watch he started reviewing guitars under 1000 dollars for years recording kings alvarez even a fender and cheap yamahas. Jp always wants the big three to build guitars like they used to. I don’t comment on here much Jp is the reason I bought yamaha’s and alvarez guitars. Just know what you are talking about.
I think the reason JP is hard on Gibson, Martin and Taylor is because the prices are so high, and the consistency just isn’t there. They are not being built by a single luthier who has them on his bench from start to finish. They are essentially mass produced, for around the same price as some of the independent small builders are making them. Based on JP’s review, I bought the Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Hummingbird, and played it side by side with the Gibson Original Hummingbird. The Gibson did not impress me at all, but the Epi is amazing, for about 20% of the price. JP knows whereof he speaks, and I trust his reviews, as a hobby player of nearly fifty years.
@@The_Robs I have owned gibsons and taylor’s and martins no longer do or will in the future. The excellente inspired is a good guitar as is the hummingbird I have owned both. And to my point both are under 1000 dollars american.
Thanks John. It was an honor to meet you.

I have 3. Lots of GAS. I bought one at the Summit 2023. Amazing!
What .can anyone say. The instrument speaks for itself & it's builder. And so does the player. Just a beautiful addition to guitar world.
Jim Fleeting in England uses the same F logo on the head stock.
Good to see you back ! GAS!!!

I just got a new Yamaha LS56 today. Your video pushed me over the edge lol
Congrats

Fabulous sounding guitar. Such a mature sound already.
I loved your analogy of learning to play guitar and being bankrupt the rest of your life !!! Ha Ha Ha !!! Yep- ture-very very very true !!!
I’m such a sucker for a good slope shoulder. Great picking as always JP!

Sweet sounding..
too cool JP!!!! awesome axe
JP you are one amazing player! Thanks so much for getting me into learning to play again! You are my mentor!
You ever touring in Bay Area of California?
Bankruptcy comes in many forms - - hello from Joe Nania
I forgot to mention that Vince Gill and Zac Brown both own multiple Edmonds guitars
Did you see the video of Vince Gill’s’ guitar collection? I thought JP hoarded them. Not even close
Yes, I did! It’s insane how many guitars the man owns. You should see what Vince says about Edmonds guitars compared to his other guitars

Oh my God. The sound.
The individual builder raises the bar for sound, quality and value that the mass production company will be judged against.

I checked out Dream Guitars indicated as a dealer of Flamming guitars, and every one of them, a good number, was sold!
If I'm not mistaken, the fingerboard and bridge are made of Ziricote. It figure looks a bit like Rosewood but the grain structure tells me it's Ziricote. Check with Mr. Flammang and I'm confident he will confirm it.

Anybody else see Tony Polecastros video where he's talking about Flammang guitars? JP is mentioned in a cool way.
Gotta say JP, the hat is awesome too.

Great Sustain sound & clarity. Inside looks like Mahogany & I think the 35 is mahogany. 65 would be braz rosewood. Not sure 45 or 55?
Yes Tony in his latest episode talked about this…
That is one powerful Mahogany J-35 guitar of a lifetime.
Sounds alive.
A beauty, eh? 🔥

Not even on the same planet. I've played a few.

Hi, beautiful sounding guitar Would you happen to know the scale length? Thanks
Sounds very much like an ATKIN J-43 JP!!
Bitchin Guitar, and another great review JP!! Love the Hat!! Big fan of the Open Road.
Incredible sound...light p.b. strings? What pick and thickness are you using
Those guitars look really nice. Have you played Olsons before?
Thanks J.P. I am a single bench Luthier

I just don`t know what to say anymore!
Yeah, I have GAS too JP....real bad...

Youse all trimmed up ta go a whorin! Ya dog ya….😂😂 just kidding J.P. I know youse a good man !

Give a man a fish… feed him for a day
Teach a man to fish…. Turn him into a drunk.
Average everyday guitar picker can’t afford these instruments. Show them to us but never never afford one.
That slope shoulder is scary good. Blew me away. You have played nothing to date that equals it

@patpuckett240 it's $5000 for a guitar. No matter how you spin it. And yes he does go on about the prices of the major three.
