Oh my goodness… that chair is gorgeous! What a beautiful job you did, Lynne! The sage green you used to paint the chair is my absolute favorite color so this one gets 2 thumbs up from me! ❤️❤️
Lynn - You always have the magic touch! Such a pretty chair.... I think I will try making some muslin cushions for my pair of children’s chairs. Also planning to use the chintz inlay on the chairs.
@@ellenjgoods I truly been enjoying your videos🤩 I wish your shop was closer to me I would do a day trip to come and visit 🤪 In my case I would have to travel two or more days by plane ✈️ because I am in Australia but one day I plan to come over and visit you Jayne, Mara, Debi, Kelly, Kristin, Dionne and more of you. If the planets line up with all your art retreats I would love to come over and enjoy creating with you all🥰🤗
Question ❓ I noticed you painted that last layer over your surface that had been dark waxed. (Excellent choice by the way, that last color you painted the chair is stunning!) What is the process for that? Meaning, how do you paint over wax? I had always read that wax HAD to be your last step.
Hi Carla. Are talking about the wood chair frame? The frame of the chair had the original old finish on it ( which had a dark glaze in the carved details). I didn’t dark wax it . I painted it with Fusion Lichen . If you look at the before pic of the chair, you’ll see the old finish. Thanks! I hope this helps 💓
The chair is gorgeous! May I ask the paint colors you used? And, how did you attach the trim to cover the staples? Was that just glue, if so what kind? Thanks for the video, I loved it!
Hi! I used a mix of Debis DIY chalk paints for the inlay area. Faded Burlap, Tarnished Pearl and Sandy Blonde, to get linen color. My chair frame is painted Fusion Lichen. Hot glue to apply the trim! 💓
Thank you so much. I can't wait to try it. I just bought the inlays and will be trying it myself in the next few days. I hope it comes out as beautiful as yours. Thanks again! 😀
Lynne, did you take out the old staples? Or just cover up with your new fabric? I cant wait to try this. And looks like your mixed media art is another Laly inspiration. Looking forward to seeing it!!! ❤❤❤ all that you do!
I painted the fabric on a stool awhile back and waxed it. Now I’d like to add the inlay on top of the waxed paint. Am I out of luck?? What do I need to do?? Thanks Ellen!
In most cases, can use wax after you do a few misting coats of 50/50 polycrylic water mix. In this case I applied the wax directly on to the inlay , a quick light coat. I would always err on the side of caution and do that setting mist, though.
what is the advantage of this painting method over just using new fabric. Chalk paint, the muslin and the IOD inlays are about the price or more than a lot of upholstery fabric .
The chair turned out beautiful! But why not just reupholster with a similar printed fabric? You're so good at doing all that. I don't think I could get that professional look. But I'll flag your video in case I need it. Thx
I agree with you. Just reupholster with a printed fabric. She put new fabric on there anyway to paint then apply the transfer pattern. I can imagine using the transfer though onto an already existing fabric that could use a design accent.
@@curtischildress9580 😃 yeah, well. She did it her way. Maybe she just wanted to try out using those paint elements. That was a lot more work though. She does good work. Beautiful chair, I've been looking for one like it. I've never upholstered, but I know how I would have done it.
This was to demonstrate one of the many uses of the paint inlay. I had to remove the existing fabric because it was worn and torn and not stable enough to paint over. I just wanted to try a new technique and explore on my $5 chair. It’s how I learn new techniques . 💓
@@curtischildress9580 it’s how I explore and experiment with new techniques. Sometimes for me it’s not about what’s easiest or fastest … it’s about trying something new and different. Imagine if we always did things the same way … we wouldn’t be able to see the possibilities 💓💓💓😊

Patricia, I thought the same thing. The chair was reupholstered then five more steps to get to the same end as upholstering it in flowered fabric. Other than the novelty factor 🙄
Well, I am one to push the boundaries and explore new techniques. That’s how I learn and can share with others what I’ve learned. For me it’s fun to try new things. I used 4 sheets, which is about $26. I was able to use those same 4 sheets a second time on another project. My muslin was actually an old curtain. So, I figure my $ 13 was worth having fun trying something different. That’s the creative in me 💓
@@jill552 same here. I’ve been sewing with real fabric since I was 11 years old and have made my own clothes for years. And I learned from my father who was an upholsterer how to upholster with real fabric. Sometimes as a creative, I just want to try something different. 💓

You need to remove that wax with mineral spirits, then repaint with a fresh coat and apply the inlay into the paint. 😊
I have a question. I just watched your video of what NOT to do with these paint inlays and wax was one of them. Did it not rub off on this project?
In most cases, can use wax after you do a few misting coats of 50/50 polycrylic water mix. In this case I applied the wax directly on to the inlay , a quick light coat. I would always err on the side of caution and do that setting mist, though.

True. I think it’s just preference. This was to demonstrate the additional ways to use the inlays. 😊
can you do this over Fusion Mineral paint just as easy? i might just need more practice , but didn’t peel as easy
You might not get as good results. Practice first.
I couldn’t see in the video did you leave on the original fabric on the top part of the chair when upholstering ?
No, I ripped it all off and recovered😊
