I just learned that tone mapping can help me save highlights, I learned that my highlight preservation node should go first (even though it is the 4th step), I learned that I can use a parallel mixer to combine my exposure/contrast and saturation nodes instead of having them one after another, and I learned about the face refinement node. Thank you!
By far one of the clearest tutorials on UA-cam! Looking forward to watching more content from you bro! You showed me a quick way to fix my highlights that I’ve been trying to figure out
Bruh holy shit. This has to be the easiest and most useful tutorial I have ever seen for Davinci so far. I didn’t even know the face refinement existed..
This is BY FAR the best tutorial on how to get the Commercial Look. I followed step by step and it turned out amazing. Thank you so much, I'm saving this
This video speaks to my skill level very directly right now. It's just the kind of exposure I need to concepts that have needed more elaboration for a long time, now. Thanks.
Absolutely stunning explanation of so many features that are under the hood of a color grading session. Danny thanks so much, I have really enjoyed your tutorial, I truly appreciate it. I have subscribed.
you just won a Subscribe from me. I had been looking for this kind of tutorials for months and finally I found you. This is very helpful for me, thanks!
I'm new to videography, I have a question. If my footages are non log (sony a6000), do I need to apply cst or do I ignore the cst node? Also, what is actually the significant of cst if you care to explain? Btw great breakdown video, I found it's a bit overwhelming to watch others tutorials as they have so many steps in grading but yours are the most easiest to follow and understand.
The CST is just to transform log footage to a display color space (rec.709). If you're not shooting in a log profile, chances are you're already in rec.709 so yeah, you can ignore the CST step. Hope this helps!
@@DannyGan Thanks for clarifying! Do you have any tips for non log footage to compensate for lower dynamic range? If chances I'm already in rec.709, do the result will be equivalent to a log footage that starts with cst on the first left node? Or do I unintentionally sacrificed some data already by shooting non log?
Nice Job overall! Feel like the image is a bit too blue though in the whites (e.g. as seen in the scope at 6:23 ). Usually you put a bit more blue into neutral whites, but this might be too much since it's effecting skin tones. Haven't seen the vectorscope, but I am assuming they are a bit off.
@@DannyGan well, the liking of colors is subjective. Colors themselves are objective and pretty clearly visible through scopes. The clean commercial look is also pretty specified as well. But whatever…
you realise each human being sees color different also each television, phone, laptop color is different even being the same model. here at best he is doing what he likes 😁
Good question, just in time for my new video haha I gave a good explanation on my the CST is placed downstream, do go watch it. Let me know if you still have any questions 🙌🏻
Hi, Great video!, Apologies I struggled to build the node tree, the connector looks different in the video in comparison to my node tree, The part that connects the primaries to the look node, how did you get that part to connect - Sorry noob question but my tree looks exactly the same but those connect parts looks different on mine
I'm not sure what is 'different' without having a look at your node tree. But green is for RGB (colours) and blue is for alpha (masking). So do check if your green lines are connected.
Hi, great tutorial. Since you only have CST out. May I know what did you do with the color management under project setting? Is it Color Science: DavinciYRGB, Timeline Color Space: Davinci Wide Gamut, Output Color Space: Gamma 2.4 ? I'm confused because usually there's an CST in & CST out.
If you’re confused why a CST in and CST out then you have skipped a lesson related to working color space. Watch my latest video for more info. COMPLETE Tutorial for Davinci Wide Gamut | DaVinci Resolve Tutorial ua-cam.com/video/4x7xnrRa1Ro/v-deo.html

Hey, I have an idea for another video if you haven't already done it. Use your sony fx3 to record something in log, then record the same thing with a lower level camera that has a log profile and compare the results. For example, I don't have any professional equipment but if I bought an fx3/a7sIII tomorrow, my two cameras would be a dji pocket 2 and an fx3. I'd love to see the difference when graded professionally.
@@DannyGan I have a Mavic Air 2, Pocket 2 an older handheld sony camcorder and my phone. I think the fx3 is more expensive than my entire bag of equipment lol. I'm looking forward to it though, it should put things into perspective for a lot of people.
Yeah mate, create with what you got 👍🏻 the FX3 is overkill for most people, but if you're serious about the craft, I think its a good tiny cinema camera
The blue color cast is a no from me ;) I know it's part of the companies branding, but I'm sure there are better ways than making it look like the inside of a detergent bottle. Good work mate!
@@DannyGanAt the end of the day art is subjective, just my opinion which isn't worth much anyway! You do you ;) I've been playing around color grading with your FX3 footage in Resolve and love your compositions and creative choices. The 35mm together with the fx3 is just the best!
The short explaination is we want to work in the 'raw' colour space before we apply the Color Space Transform (CST) which stretches the contrast and saturation. That way we can better preserve the contrast and saturation before it goes through the CST.
For me this is a matter of preference in terms of primaries and contrast, but if you're using a qualifier, the parallel nodes allows you to make a selection of the same colours from the node before it. I just use it for primaries so that it looks more organized and I've haven't had an issue with it yet 🙂

Thanks..! And is there a way to say The Sets as u got them for fastest edit each video or u manually have to make Nodes everytime..?!
You can copy and paste the node tree on other clips with middle mouse click

Q: Why use a mixer? What is the benefit of that?
you need it to connect parallel nodes back into the "stream", don't roast me on the technical terms haha but basically that's the idea

😊
hey bro, what is your configuration in Davinci?
Great tutorial & good job on the grade ✨
Why did you put the color transform at the end of the node tree? Special reason? Would love to know!
the short answer is so that we make adjustments on the raw-est form, instead of stretching the footage then only making adjustments
nice work
I want to try Davinci Resolve, this all tutorial actions can be done in free version or better if we buy the studio version? planning to switch to Davinci from Premiere Pro... Thanks.

Sounds intriguing, but I guess I'll do it with the gear I have on hand. FX3 vs Mavic Mini 2 vs GoPro Hero 10 vs Samsung S22+ haha

Great video Danny
1 question, can I ask why you didn't put the nodes in the same order you used them in? E.g. from Left to Right, or vice versa
The short explaination is we want to work in the 'raw' colour space before we apply the Color Space Transform (CST) which stretches the contrast and saturation. That way we can better preserve the contrast and saturation before it goes through the CST.
If we put the CST first, then we'll be working on the stretched contrast and saturation. Which will be less effective to preserve the data.
Is color space transform a specific plugin? I cannot find it in my DaVinci
Nope, its built-in to the software.
Why Mixer Node is used ? I mean why not we use Serial Node with Primaries, Contrast etc. ?
For me this is a matter of preference in terms of primaries and contrast, but if you're using a qualifier, the parallel nodes allows you to make a selection of the same colours from the node before it. I just use it for primaries so that it looks more organized and I've haven't had an issue with it yet 🙂
Can you make a video for basic level
I mean how to create nodes and how to colour grade them and how to save them as preset
TERIMAKASIH
Great video do you know what the color transform would be regarding input when shooting bmpcc 6k BrAW?
You can refer to what you've set on the camera, usually its 'blackmagic design film'
amazing Vedic
