What’s great about Graham is he makes it completely about the subject, you can tell he really admires his guests and is interested in them, and his goodwill is obvious. It makes for good interviews and it’s a RARE quality in journalism these days! Well done.
And Tom Hanks is cool too.

It's amazing how many Dads have stories about their youth that they never tell their sons. I was in my teens when I learned that my Dad and his brother were abandoned by their parents when they were young kids. But, I heard the story from my Mom!

I’m 58 female youngest of 7 oldest is 72 our dad passes away with heart issues at 58 I was 17. Our mom passed in 04 n 3 yrs ago we found out that we had an older brother from another mother that happened prior to our parents 38 year marriage. He was given our oldest brothers name larry and place up for adoption now this is in the forties. His pic was place on milk jugs I guess cuz they didn’t have cartons I don’t believe. Anyhow at 16 months he was finally adopted n his name was changed to jerry. My own brother had the middle name of eugene n dad would call him gene till he started school. Jerry is now 76 been looking for his bio family for over 30 years. No one had a clue in our family but our mama did know bout it. I know they say back I. Those days folks kept stuff to themselves. Me myself i found this literally despicable and very shameful of our parents to take this to the grave just gut wrenching for our half brother. Smdh my two children know everything bout this mama we don’t keep secrets. Absolutely gut wrenching n uncalled for. Thankfully jerry had a wonderful life.I never miss an episode of long lost family. He found us through our moms obituary cuz sadly it’s easier to find folks or what you are looking for after they dead n gone. Yes dna was done we also seen copy of his birth certificate with our dads signature. We have got to meet him although our oldest brother Larry still has issues with this situation. Him n dad were super close. So he hasn’t really accepted jerry. Me myself I really didn’t know our dad he had always worked nights. So ya he was a stranger in my eyes. Of course no hugs or I love you’s were shared from our parents when they were alive. I broke that chain with my children n grandchildren. Be blessed just felt compelled to share my story with you

I think the best part of the tragic story of Tom Hanks’ father is the fact that Tom’s success came in time for his dad to see it firsthand. That means everything to a child, no matter what your age.

My Dad had a massive stroke when I was 12 and saw his rapid decline for 6 years and then he died. Just a brutal time for our family. I didn't realize how much it affected for years later. I had no idea what a f-up I was during this time and after. Didn't really see the light until my 60's. Yupp losing a Dad young can have unconventional consequences. Hank's Dad sounds like a good man.

But the faces he pulls are so darn distracting. On 1 side of the screen we have probably the greatest living actor of our generation. Then this guy can't even shake his head in sympathy, or frown without it looking like he's playing grown up in front of a mirror. He's not a bad interviewer but the faces are beyond distracting

Surprising to hear someone say that. There’s no worse way for someone to die than to be murdered, and then to have it happen in front of you, and for you to be a young child and to be called to testify and then finally to have the prosecutors fail to bring that man to justice. Devastating.

Thank you for taking time to share your experiences with students that were sexually abused. My abuse happened when I was 4 or 5 and it was an older boy who did it. And my mum told his parents about it and she kept it a secret from everyone and I didn't get counselling for it then or years later as an older child when I emotionally spoke about it with her. It gave me a fear of speaking a bad stutter and clinical depression, which had a big impact on my education and childhood social development as you can imagine. I've only spoken about the experience once with my dad.

Tom Hank and Rita Wilson and his young son came to see my Shakespeare company in London because we were performing the same show he performed in and is talking about here that the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival. He chatted to me for a little while afterwards as I played the lead and directed it and was just starting out. He'd just won two Oscars and was in London shooting "Saving Private Ryan."
He was so nice and really gave me as much time as I wanted, as was Rita Wilson. He was really pleased as his kid had never seen Shakespeare and had enjoyed the show so it meant a lot to him.
I remember waking up and thinking I'd dreamed it especially as he kept complimenting me and my performance.
This story made me feel sad as my father only saw me struggle terribly. I was always working but usually in low paid acting and directing jobs and never breaking through. If you keep working and you love threat it is hard to give up but hard to live. The low money meant I never married or had children. I'm glad Tom Hanks got to show his dad that he got somewhere before he died. If anyone asked me I'd advise them to watch theatre and movies if they love them but don't get involved in the business. I've just seen a lot of talented people struggle and turn bitter and regret the day they went to drama school.
