Windy Beach Wild Camp in a Bivvy Bag. World Record Attempt. Colne Point on the Essex Coast.

- In this video, I am exploring the stunning Colne Point spit on the Essex coast and spending a cold and windy night under the stars in a bivvy bag.
The camp is part of a global world record attempt - aiming to get the most number of people sleeping under the stars in a bivvy bag at the same time and I am joining a group of wild camping and outdoor enthusiasts at this beautiful coastal spot.
Before meeting up with the others, I take some time to explore the area and walk to the tip of the spit, passing a nature reserve, a nudist beach, abandoned boats, thousands of oysters scattered along the beach and enjoying delightful views across the estuary to Mersea Island, the Blackwater Estuary and Bradwell nuclear power station.
Arriving at our camp spot, I meet up with the other campers taking part - a lovely bunch of people who warmly welcomed me into their group. I set up my Bivvy amongst the grasses at the back of the beach and then joined the others as we sat around the fire, cooking, chatting, laughing and sharing an enjoyable evening together before retiring to our thin nylon bunkers - our only defence against the relentless cold wind blowing in off the North Sea.

Just to update - we achieved our goal and set a new world record for the highest number of people sleeping out in a bivvy bag at the same time - 1387 people across the globe! World record holders! Congratulations to everybody who took part!

It's a beautiful part of the world I live not far from there and most people I know don't even know it exists it always amazes me how many people don't explore what's basically on there doorsteps awesome video by the way ✌

Only folks who get out there can experience that glory. All the pictures in the world cannot let us see that beauty, smell the combination of sea air and salt marsh, feel the sun in your face, the breeze dancing on the grass and water, the warmth of the sun. When those days are few and far between it makes outdoorsy guys appreciate them all the more. Wish I could be there too. Thanks for the excellent videography and sharing. Good video. Have you had any problems with your jumping out of gear. Mine is driving me mad. It keeps going in between 1st and 2nd . I have tried adjusting the arm but no luck.
Loved watching this! The grassy dunes spot and that sunrise in the morning look perfect. I also took part in the challenge and sat round a fire in the evening with some friends - such a lovely thing to do, (humans are evolved for things like this I'm sure) and to know that so many others like yourself were taking part too at the same time. I made a film too but all on my phone and nowhere near this kind of quality 😅 Well done and look forward to seeing more!

Ahh tremendous stuff gotta try this. Question though could I fit my big agnes rapide sleeping mattress inside a bivvy and not be too restricred?
72x25 and 9cm high which is the dimensión im most concerned about.
Hi Simon,nice vid as usual.Did you know that Leewick (houses on the stilts)where you slept is the driest place in the UK.Also if you return to that spot in the summer please be aware there's a fair few adders around plus a nudist beach! If you're ever back in the area I would recommend an overnighter at where Alresford Creek meets the Colne- lovely spot.All the best

Your videos are always joy to watch. Last week I unfortunately fractured my back so I might not be able to any heavy-duty camping this year.

Lovely video Simon; just one question, do you do your own drone shots?
I lived just over the estuary from there, for many years. I used to sail my canoe across quite often. That area certainly has its charm. Watching your video, I xould hear the sounds, smell the smells and feel the wind. If you go back in the summer, be aware, the mosquitoes are particularly vicious.
Here by the sea and sand, nothing ever goes as planned…

If it weren’t for social media I’d never even know there are troubled times out there! Been life as normal where I am all along, though I heard other places were quite affected by tyrannical lockdowns / restrictions.

Hi YA Simon, Thanks again for the IG Notification. The Drone film gave excellent perspective and I noticed one of the boats looking just like our U.S. Coast Guard boats. I Sail and fond this area and your Hike to be very enjoyable to tag along with, Thanks Simon. The beer puncture was unfortunate on several levels buddy, so tell me please, what kind of beer is a triple hazy anyway? Grand to see green energy humming away, I'm so hopeful that sources of green energy can completely replace nuclear and its waste and dangers. Yep spot on Point Clear is shown on the aerial views opposite Brightlingsea. Not a bad little holiday park. In the summer months you can take the foot ferry over to Brightlingsea or Mersea Island.

It's not a 'Sea' Si, not if you're in Essex, its an 'Estuary'. I lived in Essex for the first 14 years of my now 19 years in the UK, just 15 minutes away, by the C2C Line, from Leigh-On-Sea.
It's a proper Sea (The North Sea) here in East Yorkshire where I've lived for the last 5 years. 👍

Glad you lovely people spent time together round the fire than filming taking priority. That’s how it should be. I see all these camps with people supposedly camping together sat filming in their own tents alone filming. Sad…. Jealous of people out there like all you people. Keep it up. Thank you for your vid’s. BTW. Love your wheels. If I won the lottery I would buy a landy not a super car. Worked on many in the trade. My neighbour has a series 2. Thank you for your social camps.

i have been to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina a few times and it seems the wind is always blowing, makes enjoying yourself very difficult. always look forward to your videos.
Don't ask me why but when you said your going for the World Record in most people sleeping in a Bivvy bag at the same time I thought you meant one bag? Glad I watched all the way to the end for the explanation. In my head I was thinking maybe 3 people at a pinch, 2 if someones had beans on toast for tea. Love your work but hate the fake shots everyone is using. When I know you have to go back and get your camera, or I see you shimmy into your bed and know you gotta crawl back outta there to get your camera it breaks the spell. Sure everyone wants to look professional, but that's not what youtube is.
