The smile that Tony gave Ricky and the sheer joy on Sam Bush's face in this performance just about made this old, tough country boy lose it.
Tony was a friend for almost 25 years. Words cannot express my feelings. His music will live on but I will miss the man. He was a brilliant musician but he was much more than that.
Beauty. Peace. Thank you.
Belated sympathies.
Lots of SWBA friends miss him too.
The solo of Sam Bush on fiddle is something else! Perfect lick, perfect sound and perfect pitch, great band
I can’t watch any of Tony’s performances any more without getting misty-eyed. RIP Tony Rice.
When I heard of Tony's passing I watched his IBMA acceptance speech and it brought a tear to my eye. I knew this performance existed but I haven't seen the video until now. What a tear jerker. RIP Tony Rice!
What a beautiful recognition of the Tony’s great Manzanita Album line up, with Wyatt stepping up for lead duties and Sam on Vocals. God Bless and comfort the Immortal Tony Rice. Thanks for the wonderful post, and many more views.
So strange to see Sam wearing a suit. It's a good look...sometimes. I seem to have missed the information that Tony Rice has died. Fuck! Sorry. I may be bereaved, but that genius has moved on to a more interesting place, with a legacy of joy left behind. He's not gone. Not forgotten. Never will be.
Sam killed it on fiddle, sounded just like the album.
Something magical happened when Manzanita was recorded. Or maybe it was divine intervention. Either way Manzanita is the White Album of bluegrass, the Alpha and Omega.
It also ushered in an era of "banjoless bluegrass" that many were glad to see happen. It brought a lot of ears to bluegrass that might not otherwise have listened. I'm biased, but I totally see the appeal.
@@banjoist123 "banjoless bluegrass" was big in the 50s, with Earl finger picking guitar on gospel tunes and Don Reno's revolutionary Flatpicking when not playing the banjo with Smiley, later people like Doc and Clarence doing similar stuff without banjo.
@@keeganbluegrass ok but banjo is an amazing folk string instrument. It's also round. And from North Africa, probably. Then there's Abigail and Bella. Washburn and Fleck.
It's sad to see a diminished Tony so close to the end, but the band did him well, celebrating a classic and influential album. I hope he was able to enjoy the appreciation every has for him. Tony Rice reinvented the acoustic guitar and set the new standard.
And his singing weren't too shabby either!
@@emiller9426 Indeed!
So hard to start a new year without Tony Rice on the planet...RIP, fly high..
I felt a loss when I heard of my old friend passing. We went back to Lou KY 1969. By far the greatest bluegrass guitar. Player ever.
Yep. But I think his vibe was sweet too. I wish I have met him. He was a real friend, I bet. Those are few, in my experience. I still can't believe he's gone. Just found out.
R.I.P. TONY. Truly one of the best!
Those guys had a lot of fun together over the years. The smile on Tony's face warms me up on a cold winter's day.
Tony's smile after the song ended is priceless!
A lot of love on that stage!
Guitar Legend.. Musical genius.. Outstanding performer.. Innovator.."The song has ended, But the melody will forever linger" Thank you God for giving us Tony Rice❤️.. RIP American icon
Thank you for a lifetime of wonderful, beautiful music, Tony. Safe travels...
Such an enjoyable cast of band members and a tribute to instrument mastery !
Tony will always be the standard to reach in flattop picking. Loved his music and miss the man. RIP
These boys played so solidly, they knew what it meant to Tony. Really special.
Wow. You know it’s good when it brings a tear
May you forever Rest In Peace. thanks for the music.
I sure am going to miss Tony! I am not a musician but he made me wish i could have been! Rest in peace and wear some strings out in Heaven entertaining the Lord! You will be missed Sir!
Old Black Diamond Brand, you can bet.
Poor tony he was just about there RIP and thankyou for teaching us all so much 😢😊
Watching that it is easy to see the love the others had in their hearts for Tony Rice. Such a beautiful moment.
Gahd dam. That last moment of hugs and Tony salute the crowding has me wrecked. What a unit.
God bless Ricky and Sam and especially Tony may he Rest In Peace in your arms. He did so much so well!
Bluegrass greatness !!
Rice was one of the best!
Just legends....amazing players!
The man on the left playing “the antique” guitar is the GOAT of flatpickers. Everyone that picks owes a lot to TR
...lotta major talent in one spot ....rest well Tony 🌹
Let’s keep it goin’
Manzanita drink!
Good job, great job!! RIP Tony Rice.
im so full watching the absolute bluegrass legends playin for and with Tony. Rest in Peace.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful performance!
Last appearance? No solo. But Wyatt did him just fine.
Unable to play because of epicondylitis (tennis elbow) It gets so bad moving a blanket off you in the morning hurts.
Just in case you weren't aware of the fact that Wyatt Rice can tear up a guitar, too! This is a great tribute to a great man. Tony, I hope you got your voice back in heaven. I wonder why no Grisman? This album was the beginning of a twilight period for the 5 string banjo that we've not really ever recovered from.
Because Dawg wasn't on the Manzanita album.
I love these men for respecting Tony and loving him through everything that he did for them individually. My head is off the entire Manzanita band
hat is off . not head!
@@andychilds9167 YES SIR! Don't want the head off! Can't listen unless you're the headless horseman or someone similar.
Wow. Thanks. Yes, a great, great album. Thank you, Tony. I know you're hearing us.
That's "Bluegrass Gold" right there y'all!!🎵🎶🎵
Era un mio desiderio sentire un concerto di Tony. Ora non sarà più possibile ma la sua musica l'ascoltero' sempre.
Saw Sharon in the audience. She's a talent that could've been with that band.
Toe tappin' and memories happenin', what a great bunch a folks.
RIP Tony Rice ❤️
Thank all of you for bringing so much joy to so many people over the years. God Bless all of you!
That last bow. Speechless.
Espetacular!!👏👏👏
wonderful. Saw that band in LA a couple times. Tony is immortal
Treasure. Time capsule worthy.
I love this song it is excellent addicted to bluegrass music lol
Makes you want to go faster with this version, 4 on the floor on a gravel road with lots of dust rolling in your rear mirrors.
YES, great movie, always loved the series of the Beverly hillbillies, granny was the star of the show but I loved everybody even the song, let me tell you a story about a man name Jed….❤
This made me cry
Beautiful playing
RIP beloved Tony Rice ❤❤
Beautiful! 🎸
Le meilleur bluegrass player pour moi et de loin ! Pas un des meilleurs , le meilleur !
Certainement ma chere. Certainement. Le meilleur. ( from raised in Montreal)
Rest in power Tony.
Tony Rice gentleman musician very good performance Sam Bush
This is a stunning, poignant moment. It reminds me of the incredible photograph of the frail Babe Ruth leaning on the bat during his final appearance at Yankee Stadium
Man I miss ol" Tony...
my like was numbered ...... 1000
Beauutiful smooth playing
Giants!!
Awesome friends!!!
Great work 💪
Beautiful
Poor Tony, would have loved to have sung , you could see it ..that cancer is a curse and happens to the wrong people . The good die , and were left with the evil amongst us . Rip . Mister rice . A lovely master and commander
Go Rest High On That Mountain!
It takes some serious stones to flatpick in front of Tony Rice!
Well it’s his brother playin, so I doubt he even thought about it
TR..."The Man" RIP
World Juniors 2021
Sam got emotional a couple times with these lyrics and Tony being next to him
Rip brother
Tony White, RIP
Sam cleans up pretty nice.... :)😊
Tony F-in Rice!!!
Bulova Accutron Spaceview.
Had no idea Sam was not only a fiddle player ( of course excellent on the dobro)-- pretty decent if not great 🎶 singer!🤔
If there as a band of better musicians, I haven't hear them yet.
That would probably be, billy strings and band
@@guitarman1477 We can't really compare them because they are quite different bands. Both 100%.
WOW! I don't think I've ever seen Jerry singing before?
From the same night: ua-cam.com/video/_NmIyTpmTgE/v-deo.html
Me neither
That was awesome 👍
Baritone here, but I've seen several other YT clips of him singing tenor (mostly Transatlantic Sessions.)
He sang a bunch on his most recent Jerry Douglas Band album "What If". For example, ua-cam.com/video/pJ93XnFXW0E/v-deo.html.
❤️🌎✌️
He was a great friend and a real champion of moleskin pants.
Where's Darrol Anger?
I know his voice was gone at this point but was there a medical reason he didn’t solo ?
Tennis elbow, made it so it was very painful for him to play
Anything with Skaggs, Rice, and Douglas in it was a good show. But I grow weary of Bluegrass with Deadhead/ Newgrass experimental tunes you can't hum.
I've wondered for years, did Tony have something else going on healthwise. He lost a lot of weight the last few years of his life.
Not positive but he may have smoked to the very end. He kept smoking I hear because his grandfather smoked and lived to be in his 90's. If anyone knows better, I will stand corrected.
I got news for Skaggs and Rice. If it got no Banjo, it ain't bluegrass.
&
This is so hard to watch
Xxc
Poor Tony looks like he was in pain
Never cared for Sam's voice. No power to it. They should've had Ricky sing this one.
He is my Hero!!!
