      Growing native trees that support biodiversity and don't disturb existing ecosystems is usually a good thing. It doesn't have a lot to do with climate or our disruption to the slow carbon cycle though. Only drawing a global line on fossil fuels will do.

      Me too. As a citizen of planet earth that's what we can do while those in power drag their feet. As well, we can get used solar for cheap to find it's quite easy to install, with the extra benefit of reducing the cost of that utility, feeling we are having some impact. Also, I've built and or converted 3 buildings in my back yard preparing for the shelter crisis, so much in the news now. These we're symbiotic with the need of a roof for the emerging 15,000 watt solar.

    It's time to wake up. Energy = Life. Cheap, dense and abundant fossil fuel energy = augmented human life. Longer lives. Immensely more prosperous lives. More human life. More humans. We have no sufficiently dense green energy replacement to feed the massive energy inputs required to sustain and grow industrial civilization upon which nearly all 8 billion of us depend on for life itself. Since reducing or eliminating fossil fuel use = reduced human life we will never voluntarily accept not burning fossil fuels as a viable course of action. We are locked on to the path we are on regardless of the fate that may await us.

    I passionately support rational climate action, but this video is a rehash of old, tired, and ineffective approaches. Hansen is great for basic climate truth, but is deluded re. the necessary response. The others - especially Klein and McKibben - have no credibility left.

    • @SofGdggd-xt9lw
      @SofGdggd-xt9lw 2 місяці тому

      Why have they lost credibility? Because little had happened in the 10 years since the film was made? Hansen's fee and dividend 'solution' would still help, if it rapidly reached $500/tonne. The film argues for diverse community and union movement building, which is surely a good thing, and helped the US, China and other 'leaders' sign an agreement a year later that destroying the biosphere is bad, and they'd try to avoid it.... What alternative response do you think would be more effective?

    • @frankr29
      @frankr29 2 місяці тому

      @@SofGdggd-xt9lw The video ignores three critical elements: SRM, aerosols, and deep politics.
      Re. SRM: As stated at 20:30, one degree C is already melting the poles, so the Earth must be rapidly cooled. Emissions reductions, renewables, and shutting down the FF industry won't do that - only SRM will.
      Re. aerosols: These cool the Earth, BUT WERE NEVER MENTIONED ONCE. They were shown billowing from smokestacks on twelve occasions, but implicitly misidentified as GHGs (which are transparent).
      Re. deep politics: The electoral world is completely incapable of solving this problem. Naomi Klein's mention of "political will" is shallow nonsense. The current social rulers must be REPLACED, not coaxed into actions they will never take.
      My alternative climate response is this:
      1. Conceptually split FF emissions into GHG releases and aerosol releases;
      2. Minimize GHG releases;
      3. Optimize aerosol releases to balance their positive cooling and negative health effects;
      4. Implement SRM at the scale required as quickly and safely as possible.

    Should we reduce airline traffic and instead, use rail and ship for intercity travel, this might help mitigate climate change. Airlines get people to their destination very quickly, but jet engines cruise at about 900f and takeoff requires max power at around 1500f. The 900f at cruise is up from flight levels 27,000 feet and 45,000 feet for jets. So, even the volume of CO2 gases expelled by jet engines is 3-5% of emissions, the effect at the higher levels may be higher because of that altitude. Perhaps we could find some way to circulate high altitude cold temps to lower altitudes.

      Yes. Surface transport, particularly rail, can be electrified easily, if it isn't already. Aviation is likely to cause carbon pollution, as truly sustainable e-fuels are decades away from being produced in quantity. To get to the point where we can afford even a quarter of the flights we have now needs regulation against fossil jet fuels. Most people don't fly, so a Frequent Flyer Levy would hit the carelessly affluent. Yet airports are still wanting to expand - the directors should go to prison.

    Equally, as the crustal slip allows the poles to slide from their geographical positions, Siberia in replacing the Arctic Sea. Water at the poles does not hold annual heat accumulations, land does. So record low temperatures are now being recorded in northern Russia, and Northern Canada. Similar temperature and climatic changes are also being recorded in Southern America and Australia/New Zealand. Expect extreme climate events to increase!

    The pole shift is a subject I have lectured on first to students of the London School of Economics in 1989 then to students of Imperial College in 1992 and subsequently numerous times in this country and 7 other countries. The magnetic north pole has now passed the 40th latitude and is speeding up. The future is likely to see a speeding up until the south and north poles meet, when there will be a pause whilst magnetic materials in the crust lose a magnetic imprint until further movements of the north and south magnetic poles part. USGS analysed a previous pole shift and calculated an approximate time scale for a complete reversal of 300 years. Whilst this process progresses, the magnetosphere will degrade further, allowing dangerous cosmic rays to reach the Earth's surface, making it more and more dangerous to venture out on sunny days. Skin cancer is already on the rise!

  • @terrymoore861
    @terrymoore861 Місяць тому

    Many migratory birds die through lack of food. High populations on island locations run out of food as a result of excessive competition for food when historic shoals of fish fail to pass such locations as a result of pole shift. All species using the poles for migration are causing fishing fleets to relocate historic fishing locations! Annual shortage of fish stocks due to overfishing, adds to the lack of food for the breeding bird populations.

    • @terrymoore861
      @terrymoore861 Місяць тому

      Many birds also die as a result of ingesting poisoned water near industrial and mining sites and not because of disease. Migratory birds using the magnetic poles for navigation often miss historic feeding sites enroute and starve.

    Ocean currents are realigning with the changing position of the equator, which is why countries approaching the Equator are seeing sea level rise as they approach the bulge of the ocean wherever the new Equator is found. Hence increasing sea inundation events in the Florida Keys and southern Florida. The changing positions of the ocean currents contribute to the effect of the sun on climate. In addition, as the rainforests of South America and Central Africa and countries around Indonesia move away from the Equator, there is less rainforest to soak up the intense radiation from the sun and the Equator is warming and generating more cloud which then escapes the Tropics, increasing the extreme flood events on either side of the Equator.

    Trees around the equator historically controlled the world climate, as early morning sun generated mists from equatorial forest, which then seeded the equatorial clouds, keeping excessive tropical rainfall and most of the dense cloud around the equator. Cloud generated around the equator is on the increase as trees around the equator are cut down. Forest soaks up the sun's radiation, reducing the temperature but progressive deforestation has increased tropical temperatures, increasing sea temperatures and causing more evaporation and more cloud cover. Hence the increase in the escalation of record floods north and south of the equator. Saying CO2 is the cause is false. CO2 is NOT the cause of climate change and the escalation of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The higher temperatures around the equator and the creation of more cloud and winds, is the cause of the explosion of extreme weather north and south of the equator. The pole shift is the main cause. Research pole shift on USGS, NASA and NOAA! Alleged anthropogenic changes to weather bear no relation to the areas which have more or less drought, temperature or rainfall ! So many forest fires are caused by lightning strikes, ignited leaks of methane, volcanic eruptions and more worryingly, careless human activity, wars, and arsonists. Simply put, less trees around the equator and world temperature will be affected.

    Wonderful, slick, expensive CO2 testimonial, but where does CO2 come from? The burning of 8 billion tons of coal annually, and 100 million barrels of oil per day, so 3.65 billion annually. But, remember what your dear ole ma told you when you were a wee babe: where there's smoke, there's fire (and where there's fire, there's waste heat). Between the Greenhouse effect, the product of a feed forward loop between the 10-14 trillion tons of water vapor and the other GHGs, and the waste heat from burning fossil fuels, we are producing the heat energy equivalent of 20 Hiroshima nuclear bomb blasts PER SECOND, so about 1,400,000 per day, where each one releases 63 trillion BTUs into the atmosphere.

    • @iz8dwf

      @@iz8dwf Thanks for your interest and reply, but much of the thermal energy is being absorbed in the water cycle, not in thermal form, although our AC is busted, so we see increasing global temps in spite of the hydrological cycle's attempt to cool us. The 20 Hiroshima nuclear bomb blasts per second, calculated by Eliot Jacobson, is in spite of the hydrological cycle trapping an enormous amount of heat, like the 400 giga watts already stored in our oceans or the 30 million tons of Greenland ice melting every hour as it drains into the cooling Atlantic ocean at the southern tip of Greenland and threatening to overturn the AMOC.

      That argument for despair doesn't make sense to me. At the moment, many activities cause GHG emissions, but it's a question of how much. In Sep 2014 there were demos all around the world, but what would people have been doing if there weren't? You can't but do anything at all because of an impact that is less than a thousandth of a flight. It's like saying you can't spend money on saving energy, because it costs in the short term.
      I hope we reach a world with zero carbon industry soon. Nothing in that world will prevent art or music or learning or protest.

      @@SofGdggd-xt9lw I would not call it despair. We do what we do and we live with the consequences. I was pointing out that you can easily get sidetracked by your own single minded perception. Many are suffering the consequences and many are celebrating the comforts of modern living. It would seem that overconsumption of energy in any form will lead to a predicament. Humans love to be the best, biggest, first, etc… and we seem to be doing a good job of consuming the most, being the most prolific. We can celebrate our achievements but unfortunately the celebration will be short. I look forward to robotics and doing away with the biological limitations of our fragile bodies. It seems like a natural next step in the process of consciousness.

      Fair enough then. You did mention being unable to leave the party of destruction of the biosphere, because everything contributes to it. That sounded despairing or unrealistically negative to me. Until humans (or robots) transition the energy system away from fossil carbon the problem will get worse. Your 'modern ways of life' sound like the effects of inequality. People's happiness does not depend upon consumption, beyond a minimum of food and drink.

      Well your comment seems rather biased. We know that CO2 in the atmosphere, where there are no plants, causes the outgoing long wave radiation to produce heat. More CO2 = more heat. This may be good to a limit. You must drink water H2O to live, but too much will put your system into distress, maybe even kill you. It is not the percentage that causes the problem, it is the increase in this case, which is causing a change in climate fundamentals. With biased and closed minds such as yours, change will not be possible, nor even a reasonable conversation. We will all continue to use fossil fuels until change becomes inevitable. At least we can be honest and realize what the consequences of are actions are. It would be hypocritical to say that you love your children when you are destroying the biosphere for pleasure or hypocrisy.

      If you believe in God then you must notice that he put these fossil fuels into the Earth, where supposedly the Devil resides. I tend to use rational thought and not belief in deities, therefore as we put more CO2 into the atmosphere we will receive the effects of that human driven change. God put it into the earth, people decide to dig it up and burn it. That is not very intelligent, if you do not know all of the risks you do not “ just do it . “
