It's the second time that I'm reviewing this video, after using the camera for several months .Now this video is even more useful and comprehensive than before.Fine tuning. This camera is very sophisticated with many options . Customizing it makes it much easier and efficient to use.Thanks. Highly appreciated.
Brilliant! Have rented the G9ii for two days with a view to upgrading and this was a brilliant video to quickly start getting to grips with the settings. Thank you.
Andrew I know this video took some time to make but it's well done and much appreciated. My Mark2 arrives tomorrow. I know it will be a learning curve even after owning the G9 for 3 years but I feel more at ease and even more excited for it to arrive after watching this great tutorial. I'm sure I will rewatch it multiple times. Thank you.
Hi Andrew, thanks for another very informative video. I just watched it for the first time, apparently I did not have the notifications for your channel set properly. I also wanted to personally thank you for addressing my previous question/concern about the creative control image effects options. I especially appreciate how you pointed out both ways to get to them. I also really liked how you specified the multiple options using the Q menu. On my G9, I use the Q menu extensively. Thanks again! -Marty
I am strugling using the G9II the same way I use my OM1 (stills) - combined with the Olympus 300mm F4 Pro lens - the OM1 realy quickly snaps on birds (perched or in flight) and sticks to them - with the G9II the focus is there often when I see the back of the bird (when it flies away).
Thanks Andrew, very informative video. I like how you explain why and how you are making the choices you have. I will watch again if and when I get the G9 Mark II
Nice video, I enjoyed watching ... my G9II will be delivered somewhen beginning November ... now also subscribed your channel. Did you already have a chance to test which settings are best for birds in flight with the new AF?
Really useful info. Thanks for taking the time and effort to share your ever-evolving set up. With all modern cameras I generally feel overwhelmed with choice so seeing it narrowed down in an efficient, easily accessible way is a great help. My G9ii arrives next month (if delivery dates are as promised). Looking forward to it!
Great video ..........just what I needed .............watched a lot of your videos on the original G9 and they helped me a lot. Looking forward to your content on the G9M2 ! Sat in Scotland with the sound of wind and rain in the background .............a bit different to the Rainbow Lorikeets 👍
Hi Andrew thank you for such informative videos. However I have a question. In BBF when on a tripod how do I set the focus without disturbing the focus. I have the G9 mark 2 .
Andrew, Thanks. Just got the G9II today and was struggling a bit with the new menu system compared to the original G9. When you have time I'd love it if you could talk a bit about the new phase detect autofocus system. Thanks Mate
Thank you so much for this very informative video. I only picked up my new camera yesterday and your video has been very helpful. In my previous camera (GX8), I was able to move the focus curser on the screen while I was looking through the view finder. I found it very good to use, but I cannot do that on the G9M2. Can you tell me where the setting for this feature is?
Good topic & deeper dive into what can be done with the mk II's function buttons. One part looked as though anyone could reassign even the ' dedicated ' buttons to something else ! Wow ! I hope this is the case. In the future, when I've acquired this camera, I want to be able to switch the placement of the ' Playback ' feature with the ' Q menu ' button location--or any other f-button that's to the right of the monitor. I prefer being able to use my right hand thumb or finger to easily contact the ' Playback '. On my G9 I've learned to do this while keeping my eye on the EVF. I'm using the Playback way more often than the red video or Q-Menu button. Thanks again Andrew. p s " To Panasonic - You've omitted some filters I like to use in my G9 = expressive art, star filter, one point color & sunshine. Could you put these in a future firmware update on the new G9 II - just for me? " 😂😂 Ray
I think you meant “impressive art”. I have used the Impressive Art and the One Point Color probably more than any of the others. So, I agree with you. I’m hopeful that Panasonic will include them in the production firmware of the G9II.
Just to continue with my general ' pickiness ' , " Panasonic," While your at accommodating my & @martyptx's other requests, - future firmware update - after I've moved my ' Playback ' function to a button on the right side of the monitor, please make it so the original left sided playback button can now be ' reassigned ' to something else. I'll stop now ! @@martyptx
Hi, not sure but I can check. Focus Mode, Focus Area Mode, and Subject Detection are three separate functions so perhaps not. But you could definitely apply them to a custom setting on the mode dial. So you could set up your preferred wildlife settings including AF modes, release modes etc to (for example) C1. This might be a good option for what you're trying to do.
many thanks for the explanation, very nice 😀 And: it was so nice to hear the lorikeets in the background of your video, so I think you are from Australia, aren't you? 😅 Best regards, Dirk
Why is there no way to put ISO on the rear dial and aperture on the front? In video mode it's super annoying when you accitentally bump the rear dial and change your shutter speed and I would rather have this dial change the ISO.
Thanks so much! Is it normal for Constant Preview to be VERY laggy when set to slower speeds? Almost unusable and really cuts into the usability of shooting slow speed stabilised images if it's so laggy.
Yes it shows your preview at the actual shutter speed you would be shooting at. So if you are shooting at 2 seconds exposure the screen will refresh every 2 seconds. A good idea to turn it off for that type of shooting. You can assign constant preview to the quick menu so you can turn it on and off easily.
Hi - thank you very much for the excellent video - I am a beginner and this has helped me massively however I have recently purchased the G9ii and trying to set up the Quick menu following your example, however when I press the Q menu button - nothing happens - it doesn't display anything - do I have to customise it first or have it on a certain mode please? You don't mention this so I am assuming not and wonder if there is a fault with my camera?
Great video!!! I have a question? I’m looking into buying a new or should I say, my first camera, I was thinking on getting the G9 , but now that the G9 II is out , would you say that the G9II is a better camera, or is the G9 still a great camera , given that is way less expensive. Thank you for your help 😁🙏
The G9ii is definitely an upgrade, it does everything the G9 does, only better. But the G9 is still a terrific buy so if you can't afford the new model, you won't be unhappy with the original.
You won't need to change cards. If you plan to do a lot of high-speed burst shooting or high definition video you might want to get faster cards, but for simple shooting your old cards will do the job.
Thank you! I think it is a big downside to the Lumix menu system that it doesn't allow to customize burst setting on your dial further. I mean to assigng an option from the whole range of burst modes to each of dial positions. Mechanical shutter modes are not that usefull and different SH modes could be used at different scenarios
Yes you can in a way. 2 second delay is one of the Drive Mode options, and drive mode can be added to the Q menu. But I don't find that necessary as there is a dedicated dial on the camera for that.
Muchas gracias por la labor que estas realizando, yo estoy deseando que aparezca en el mercado para comprarla y tus videos me vienen muy bien para hacerme una idea de las mejoras que se presentan, un saludo
Yes I will have to return it. They haven't given me a date yet. I'm trying to make the most of it while I can, but I have a job and a teaching business so there isn't much time to indulge in photography lately.
I would say it's has 1.5 to 2 of stops improvement over the original G9. So not as good as full-frame, but substantially better than any micro 4/3 camera I have used and probably getting closer to the performance of other crop sensors.

I like the way you set up the Q menu. And if course the other stuff you talked about. That constant preview is a nice feature. Thanks for the help 😎
Isn't constant preview something that every camera on the planet has? Beside dslr. Why would be an option to disable it?

Got my new G9M2 Yesterday. This video has really enabled me to understand and configure the camera. Thank you.

Can you describe the exposure bracketing in a video for this camera please.
Extremely helpful! Just purchased my camera. I have had a Panasonic since the GM1 came out. So many more features. your video was phenomenal.
Thank you Andrew as a new owner thats been very informative and probably saved me loads of time. Cheers.
Thankyou Andrew for a very helpful video, all I have to do now is get my G9 mkII.
Looking forward to getting my G9ii, the new menu looks like an improvement, with lots more customisation and options 😃

Thanks Andrew!! Waiting for my G9II patiently.
THanks for this comprehensive video. My g9ii arrived a few days ago , and the video is very helpful. Looking forward for some more
Thanks heaps Andrew, looking forward to my G9II coming soon.
My G9 ii arrives today and just wanted to thank you for this very helpful video!

Hi Andrew thank you for such informative videos. However I have a question. In BBF when on a tripod how do I set the focus without disturbing the focus. I have the G9 mark 2
.
I would like to set a button for the Teleconverter. It appears to be too deep in the menu to be useful. Use it all the time om my OM-5.
Really useful, thank you. Any chance of a video on the Live Composite function?
I hope so. Waiting for a good photo opportunity to see what I can get with it other than just traffic light-trails.

I really want the lumix G9 ii but I’m stuck with a lumix G9
This is a very good tutorial - is not too quick; you show the menu items in a time sequence one can follow. Very good indeed.
Thank you very much Andrew, great video as always.
Is there no way to assign Shutter Af on/off to a function key or quick menu?

You’re a legend for this vid. Thanks
Many thanks - does it have the pixel to pixel feature in video still
Thanks, this was indeed very helpful! Is it possible to lay a particular focus mode on a button? For example animal detect with tracking?

Can i do custom button on panasonic G9ii for ssd , fast switching sdhc to ssd?
Thanks so much!

How do I change the language on Lumix G9 mark 2

As usual, great job
Out of interest, I assume you were offered the camera for review. Do you get to keep it, or must it go back?
Yes I will have to return it. They haven't given me a date yet. I'm trying to make the most of it while I can, but I have a job and a teaching business so there isn't much time to indulge in photography lately.
Is it any better in low light than the original G9, don’t know whether to get the g9 ii , eos r7 or the Fuji x-h2s.
