Total incompetence at driving. Earlier models of the Kübelwagen had only rear wheel drive, but thanks to its flat and smooth bottom and rear engine, it was officially stated to be as good as any contemporary 4x4 car. Later models were 4x4. And in the end they still thought it necessary to push? The Sd.Kfz.10 is an artillery tractor! It could easily drag like 5 Kübelwgens up that hill, even if all their wheels were removed.
Yeah that was painful. He slipped the clutch bad, had plenty of help if he knew when to go. He should have backed up to get out of the ruts and made another try and he would have gotten going
Pathetic drivers, that's terrible !!! They should stick to automatic Jeep Wranglers !!! You don't throw yourself in muddy ruts this thick with a 2wd VW that has about 36 horsepower AND a couple of passengers on top of that !!! Can't believe I watched that abomination....
Michael Casey these are very good at icy conditions, Engine in the back, RWD, limited slip diffrential. This was driver error, i’ve done several mountain crossings during snowstorms in my Bug :-)
Looked like a bunch of council workers all standing around scratching their heads. I’m Surprised no one sent for mugs of tea! Also should have ti reverse
good grief... get the passengers out and throw it back down the hill. Obviously they cant find reverse but with that many guys they could carry it out of the way.
...I own since 1987, one GPW/'42=hp54/SAE (1054Kg) and one Typ82/'43=25hp/DIN-(725Kg) both of them in perfect conditions, well: in serious climbing muddy-terrain, the 4×4/low-gear it does not move better then the 4x2/1° speed(it is a very reducted gear) and the Porsche's Selflocking-Differential, BUT in "ExtremaRatio" it can be "lifted-out" by 4-5 yuongmen.
Raddaddy watanen The proper kubelwagen had a LSD Limited Slip Differential that autolocked. Most Kubelwagens had rear wheel drive only but this tended to work well because of the rear engine weight distribution putting most of the traction over the rear wheel anyway. Volkswagen produced a 4WD mechanism which was fitted to all schwimwagen but only a small percentage of kubelwagens. I suppose it was considered better to have more kubelwagens of 2WD than less 4mWD. The problem here seems the slim tyres in the mud and maybe driver skill. The kubelwagen had good ground clearance due to the use of portal axels. Note the agile half tracks have no problem. The WW2 German Army had 4WD but at a cost.
I can smell the burning clutch from here.

Push down, shove the stick to the left and pull back. Reverse.
Clearly incapable drivers.
He should learn to drive.
Yeah that was painful. He slipped the clutch bad, had plenty of help if he knew when to go. He should have backed up to get out of the ruts and made another try and he would have gotten going
Wot a prick

Thats unfortunatly right.
How hard can it be to push out a 700 KG car with running engine and 6 guys.
Germans in Russia 1942 colorized footage
Great comment!

that has to be the worst driving i've ever seen
And that's one of the reasons why the Jeep MB was way superior
So... no Jeep has ever been driven by an incompetent driver? Trust me, a Jeep gets stuck even easier, if it's switched to just rear-wheel-drive.
The VW is NOT a 4x4, it's a normal Beetle and supposed to be a messenger car for bad roads not for terrain
That was painful to watch
What took them so long to come up with this very obvious solution ? It occurred to me about 10 seconds into the video.
He should write a book "5 ways NOT to drive a vehicle ".
has no one heard of a winch? they should have just left it hitched to the half-track save time when it gets stuck again.
This was painful to watch.
Old Kubelwagen

Interesting, but these youngster couldn't organise a p155 up in a brewery.
Driven by an incompetent
What a useless piece of nothin'. They should have just picked it up and carried it.
Kubel needs a stronger engine.
i would only replace the engine to something better if it was replica Kubelwagen not if its original

pathetic... No 4WD-No locked Diff ??

This is probably a replica or someone swapped the original differential to a normal VW one. The original was a ZF self locking diff
Passenger go out from a car,
