70s I didn't know a man who didn't come home and put his wallet and keys on the dresser. I can still hear that sound. Might have hated to do it. But that was a man. Donny was my favorite as an early teen. After he left there was Prince. If you listen to "Strange Relationship" you'll hear Donny, "Everything is Everything." His "movements" in the live version. Donny made Live music a high art and experience only we can deliver. Listen to him live. You can hear Stevie, Earth Wind and Fire... Donny made them all better. I remember the mystery of his death I lost my man 4 years ago this month and there will never be another. because when you meet a man who holds himself to standards you have the world. He aimed for better. Donny was a certainly of the highest standards and a pure brother. He was his spirit, you can hear it, he had high standards for himself and worked to better how he delivered his message. As you hear, he laid it out there when he didn't hit is mark and still made it right. He was serious about his music. His grandmother raised him, she was a gospel singer from what I read. His music is Godly and there's nothing weird about it or him. He started as musical director for Curtis Mayfield. In the end, the story most likely to me was an article about his mystery. That he was afraid of being changed and having his music changed. Losing his source of life. And that he was surrounded by the buzzards of the business before he died. He was taken out of the hospital, and against the doctor's orders left alone. Sam Cooke, Jimi Hendrix, Phyllis Hyman, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Prince. There were different ways to go about it. But, who leads greats to wander? It's not until 2019 that these things no longer seem a mystery to me. Spiritual struggle and warfare are in your face now. Watching and reading it appears to me the world used Donny's musical life. Took from him because he was the best and would have certainly been better, because he used education and formal learning, not to became a professional, but to add to the Godliness and wholeness of his music. To speak truth of life. Listen to Donny, especially live, he is a spiritual gift.
Donny was the truth. Been listening to him from the beginning of his career. Y’all young brothers need to listen to his album Extension of a Man. Yes I said album. Keeping it 💯

They really were contemporaries. 5 years apart in age. But it's really interesting to see how Donny interpreted Marvin's masterpiece, "What's Goin On". He didn't try to do Marvin, he did Donny.
Women have to have a great mama to teach her daughters how to treat a man. How doing things for them makes us happy as well. I feel for the young men now because girls just want money, status, and are never happy regardless. We, my generation, were taught to treasure our man and make him feel our love by showing him how much he means to us. Mama always said actions speak louder than words...❣️
You're right about that, you feel his pain!!! That's the sign of a soulful singer !!!!

Let's take up an offering after this
In many ways Donny Hathaway continued where Marvin Gaye left off that seemed heartfelt smooth powerful music
