      BackroadBozo same here. Grew up on motor and bmx. Where’d you get the bars at?
      Also what exhaust you got? I hate the stock. Sounds so lame haha. Yours sounds better

    • @backroadbozo
      @backroadbozo  5 років тому +2

      xSCHMiDx I’m not sure where I got the bars but I do know that the company name is Burly Brand. The exhaust is just stock straight piped with a side slash tip but I welded a washer on the end of the header to help keep some back pressure. I’m not sure how effective it is but it seems to run fine haha I might be redoing the whole exhaust this winter though

    • @xschm1dx
      @xschm1dx 5 років тому

      BackroadBozo yea I’ve read on forums that most don’t run well on straight pipes. Only a few people have gotten them to. So I guess you’re another haha. I’ll keep that trick in mind if/when I ever build mine haha

    • @backroadbozo
      @backroadbozo  5 років тому +1

      xSCHMiDx it runs decent but it does need rejetted and the valves readjusted. I was thinking about doing the high compression DR piston and a stage 2 cam this winter as well as a barnett clutch. The stock one is decent but with the added power I’m not sure how long it’ll hold up

      @@danielpeins411 The ignorance sheds away the more you work on bikes. You learn what works and what doesn't, like anything. Research and execution, trial and error. Definitely not a highway bike but you get the savage on some twisty backroads and it will outperform most bikes in the same category. It's planted, light, and has some pep in her step. • @stevep9739
      @stevep9739 6 місяців тому +1

      Crackle and pop on the over run its running lean.
      In DR form these carbs run lean so we can assume these do too.
      I personally would go open K+N style filter(pod) and then find out what size the stage 2 Dyno jet main is for this bike and just buy the main then look at what the DR fellas do to enrich throughout most of which is inexpensive probably $30-$50 max.
      This should see you close to 40bhp without much being spent,on such a light bike that will feel like you're on a much bigger bike`
      There's loads of tuning tips on yt on the subject of these carbs!
      If you want anymore the OP was going DR high comp piston and high lift cam,this will move the power and torque further up the rpm range,this is a cruiser not a crosser!
      Personally if I went any route I'd go big bore and piston with a little porting in the head keep the std cam upping the carb along the way or even change to an fcr41 pumper.
      That would get you to the same 50 bhp or more but keep all the character of the original but with 50% more power would turn the little light weight into a rocket ship,in turn keeping the cruiser feel.
      The DR BIG came in 750cc and 800cc, a barrel and piston from one of these and a bit of head porting and you have a torque monster.

    • @backroadbozo
      @backroadbozo  Рік тому

      In this video, just a pod filter and exhaust tip. Today, its got a wiseco 94mm hi comp 10.5:1 piston, webcams stage 3 cam, barnett clutch, mikuni vm36 carb, ported and polished head, newer style rocker arms, new valves, made a new exhaust, 1.6” ID and a reverse cone muffler, E3 plug… i think thats it for the engine

    • @stevep9739
      @stevep9739 6 місяців тому

      Someone else asked this and I told them what would be best to keep the chopper rather than crosser feel.
      I see you've dropped the carb size.
      This is all you can do to retain some torque,but kind of backwards in going forward
      If you had got the standard 9.5:1 comp instead of 10.5:1
      And a stage 1 cam you could have kept the 40mm carb and retained the torque and top end.
      Probably 1-2 bhp difference in my suggested set up but would feel like vtwin torque and would be a lot less revy.
      That's assuming you still have it.
      Hope those bars are CroMo.
      Love this little bike been thinking of an xv535 but this may suit my needs better and sounds thumpier lighter too for street work!👍🏻

    Did you have to change the cables to use those bars?

    • @backroadbozo
      @backroadbozo  2 роки тому

      With this bar/riser set up, i would recommend going atleast 1-2 inch longer cables. The stock ones do work but at full locked turn it will pull the clutch or throttle ever so slightly. This can be corrected by adding more free play to the cables but you’ll have a slightly sloppy feeling clutch or throttle. Best bet is get longer cables from barnett or motion pro but can be done with stock lengths.

      If its miss firing check your spark plug and maybe give the carb a cleaning. Make sure you run good gas too. I run an E3 spark plug and that seems to do good but any other ones will be fine with the proper gap. As for the muffler, it was just a slash cut exhaust tip with a sort of lollipop baffle I made. It really didn’t do much but make it loud and it made some snap crackle pops all the time lol I’ve since then made a new bigger inner diameter exhaust and got a legitimate muffler that sounds good and it does backfire anymore. How does this bike compare to a sporty 883? I had to sell in order to move off hawaii, and now I'm looking for my next bike. Thanks!

      Thomas Knapp I’ve never ridden a sporty 883 so I cant really compare. I love my Savage though. Its light and easy to throw into turns. Its reliable and has good power. It has a good deal of get up and go for its size. From what I have read, it will give an 883 a run for its money. If you can, test ride one man. You’ll be surprised by the little thumper!

      @backroadbozo  Місяць тому

      @@jagpreetsangha7393 i wouldn’t hold it at 80 for long periods of time. Its definitely not a highway bike. I think there is an aftermarket front pulley that will allow it to do highway speeds more comfortably but I’m not sure, you’d have to research that. The aftermarket for these bikes is pretty much none existent unless you are willing to modify parts to work. Suzukisavage.com is a good place to learn about what you can do with these. That forum board has people that know more about the bike than the engineers at Suzuki

      Alexandre Legault thanks! Its just the stock exhaust with a slash cut exhaust tip from AutoZone. I made my own baffle out of a washer to give it some back pressure. Since this video, I have bought a new reverse cone muffler. Still working on getting the jetting right but it sounds way better now. Check out my instagram for more photos and such of the bike, if you’d like.

      I'll eventually get around to doing one. I rebuilt the engine over winter and within 250 miles it shot the rod through the case. It was my fault for trusting a used crank off eBay. I'm currently almost done rebuilding the new engine so hopefully this one will stay together for a while haha then I'll do a walk around. If you have instagram you can see what it looks like now.
