I just got mine 2 or 3 weeks ago, in a blueburst finish. I love it! Sure there's some very minor issues, but I changed the strings, cleaned the fretboard, and away I went! For the price (they are $159 now on Amazon) it is an absolute blast. The best thing was that I had $150 in Amazon gift cards laying around, so I got the FF338 for $10. Bound maple body, bound f-holes, a fantastic finish and a set neck with a solid block for $10! I think people who are disappointed with this guitar are forgetting the price point, and are expecting a Gibson 335 look, feel and sound. Well, maybe its not all that, but it's damn close enough for me and plenty of others as well. I never even wanted a hollow body electric, and certainly would never have paid for a top name brand, until I saw the FF338 reviews start popping up on youtube. I love it, it's expanded my playing and opened up my ears and fingers to all types of new styles of playing, so for that alone I love it!

Thanks Daniel....the FF338’s are very nice! You can’t really go wrong with any of the Firefly models as far as I’m concerned. You should see them drop a new batch in around 30 days. They are on their way to port as we speak.

11/19/2020: Hi Jimmy: I got my FF338 and it sure is beautiful. The action was very high and the neck was scooped. After a day it got better. I am going to do some work on it today and tomorrow. I purchased a custom Collings I35 and that guitar is amazing. But the FF is an amazing purchased.
Well hi there Jon! Glad you received your 338 safely! I would give it a couple days to acclimate and then do your setup, but I am sure you already know this. I am sure that Collings is nice! The FF338 is certainly much more guitar that the price point would lead you to believe. Clean and conditioner that fretboard and polish up the frets...change out the strings and set her up!

Jimmy it looks like you had a turkey day that nobody else did.
I like the wine color very much. I got the red, when it was the only one I liked out of black, blue and sunburst. Mine as shown in my series of videos was in horrific condition ascetically and the frets (condition, sharp ends and leveling) noisy bridge and very microphonic pups. The tuners were sort of ok but changed them also. All these things are corrected now and it is the guitar I wanted it to be.

Yeah, as stated in the video I did have to do some cleaning/polishing of the frets on the last batch 338 I bought (Goldtop). The wine color had a small bit of bridge buzz, so I just replaced the bridges in all 3 of them. Nothing major, and all 3 now play very nicely.
Good review. Looks like you enjoyed it too. The standard pups sound fine to my ears. Some of the other youtubers take it a bit too far in their mods of this guitar imho but after you buy it it's your guitar to do with as you please, and of course they allow themselves to be setup the way you want. I’m one of those guys who does modifying but once it’s done it’s a great guitar to last my lifetime.
Just Got one! A beautiful brown , sounds very nice , knobs are a little iffy, kinda to close to the guitar and stiff But I'm impressed (172$ with tax)

Congrats! Try pulling the knobs up ever so slightly. Sometimes they get shoved down and rub against the body. That should help, and they shouldn’t be as stiff either!

Hi, nice review! Thank you for your service by the way! I bought one of the Brown Spalted tops from this last batch in early January 2020. It was the only finish that was priced at the higher $159. It is gorgeous! The finish, the neck, the fret board all lovely and pretty darn decent tuners for the most part. And the setup is actually very good. Intonation is good. BUT I don't like the pickups at all. They are weak and ridiculously microphonic. They sound steely and cold. Not warm at all. Going to replace them with a Seymour Duncan Jazz/JB uncovered set. Having said that though, overall this is a very good purchase and I am very happy. With new pickups this will be a fine instrument.
SLM1 Thanks for watching and the kind comments! Congrats on your new “Spalty” 338! I am of the impression that the pickups seem to vary from batch to batch, which at this price point getting consistency is difficult. Some have reported from prior batches the same issue you state, and others like myself, seem to not have as big a issue. Mine are also a bit microphonic, but quite useable in my case. Yes, I changed out the strings on all the 338’s in this video. I use D’Addario 9/42’s on all my electrics. 👍

Ha! Yes, fun to have in situations like this to lay down something simple and work out a jam on top. They have come a long way since I got my Boomerang, but I don’t use them enough to think about replacing it. It does just fine for me.

If you can hold out a bit longer, the Firefly hard shell case should be available pretty soon. The virus has pushed things back a bit, but was told April time frame. I have not looked at gig bag options but would imagine that any made to fit the 335 or the Ibanez would work?

As far as tuners go, lots of direct fit options including Wilkinson and Gotoh, Grover along with others depending on style, locking or standard, etc...just look for a hole size of 10mm (metric) 3 per side style tuners with the screw hole on bottom left if you don’t want to redrill/patch holes.

C'est sans doute une assez bonne guitare mais elle ne sera jamais une Gibson ou une Gretsch dans sa longevite....elle peut satisfairecdescamateurs debutants peu fortunes comme premiere guitare...mais pourvun peunplus cher vous pourriez avoir des Epiphone Casino et Sheraton II Elles ,ve sontbde tres grandes guitares sans rien changer ni micros ni mecaniques et elles seront toujours ainsi dans 50 ans ☝️🎸☝️🎸😉😍😍😍

Never said it was a Gibson or a Gretsch but a very good budget alternative for those who wanted a 335 style guitar without breaking the bank. I have owned a Gibson 335 S Varitone back in the day, and the FF plays pretty close for a fraction of the cost. So far, after over 3 years they are just like the day I received them. As far as longevity...well only time will tell. Appreciate your stopping into the channel! 🎸👍

The 338 model has been readily available since late 2017. I bought 1 guitar from three different batches last year, spring 2019 (wine), summer 2019 (sunburst) and fall 2019(Goldtop). I use them in alternate tunings mostly (not in this video as I was demonstrating in the same song). I also gave away my sunburst a few weeks ago. There has been 3 more shipments of the 338 since I did this as well, and another shipment expected today on Amazon. Hope this helps to answer your concern.

Hey...it’s all good! I do understand some of the “frustration” many feel when trying to buy one. Please understand that Firebird Music is a small company and they try their best in keeping up with demand. They only produce a small batch every 10-12 weeks so yes, if you are not quick when they become available, they sell out pretty quick. With just a bit of persistence and patience, you can grab one (or two) yourself! Good luck, and I stated I would be checking today on Amazon. Keep at it....thanks for watching and your comments!
