I like Mossy. You can have him back anytime as far as I'm concerned. He's no nonsense... unlike Chris, who is almost all nonsense, but in a playful way. I'll never have either of these bikes but I like hearing what you think of them.

I had a 2018 CBR650f and never understood why what most Americans had to say about it was often "underpowered and overweight". To me the people saying that either ride 1000's like a street Rossi or are track masters. For the average rider who uses a bike for commuting, fun on the weekends, and just riding with buddies. I like what you had to say about these bikes, they are very very good at doing everything well. The comfortable ride of a cruiser, the get up and go (ish) of a 600 ss, and the cornering power of your favorite twisty killer bike. Plus as far as it's completion goes it destroys them all on everything EXCEPT price. But I feel that for the average commuter or weekend rider it's perfect and everything you'd expect it to do. That's why they marketed the 650f as the city commuter with a taste of the sporty heritage Honda is known so well for.

I've been round the houses over the years, a plethora of litre bikes.. from all manufacturers , on my 3rd GS at present but one of those 650r's for jumping on when the mood takes me would be great alongside the long range bomber in the garage 👌🏼 ..

Finally a review which mentions the CBR600f as comparison. Obviously it's a new bike with better suspension and brakes, and overall newer. But might it be bolt to say the the CBR600f is less of a compromise engine wise, because the CBR650R has been designed, or tuned down, to meet A2 license 70kw regulations. So that maybe the CBR600f is actually still a better choice, unless you can 'tune' the 650R so that it isn't potentially compromised anymore. CBR600f makes around 75kw, CBR650R : 70kw

First of all thanks, this is the first proper review i see about the 650R that mentions it's predecessor, the "classic" 600f. I've owned a '97 600f and still own a 600f 2002 that's close to the end of life cause of Euro 1 normative. This seems to be kind of the same bike a little bit less power (Euro 4...), next week i will give it a test in barcelona and hopefully find the proper successor.

He raises a solid point about taking a bike with 90 to 100bhp and restricting it. I never thought about how it would affect throttle response mid corner. I guess you could say an A2 rider wouldn't have the experience to corner at speeds where that would be an issue or would be riding the bike daily and therefore know its quibbles.

    • @drewtaylor6623

6kg is nothing! You do realise they saved 3kg of that by not using as much oil and making the petrol tank smaller. Lol so basically it's 3kg lighter in the frame and thats it ! Also my cbr 650f weighs the same now with a full echaust system . Also this new 650r only has 4hp more not only that now it revs slighly higher the Torq under 5k revs isnt as good! Them new upside down forks still arent much better they are for looks it still doesn't hace a cartlidge in like the 600f4i

The ducati Supersport is in this bikes class. I would consider the cbr650r and ducati Supersport (base) to both be in this category personally. The ducati has better power, crap ton more torque, better seating position, better seat, better suspension, muuuuuch better tires and most of all has character. It does cost more but not a great deal. The Honda will probably be more reliable and has a nicer dash but me personally I'd choose the ducati. U guys should really put these two bikes against each other.

Good review chaps! Little spot of criticism: when filming the actual ride, try to film the road ahead as well. The camera is tilted a bit too much down in my opinion.. Otherwise well done!

Wiring seems to be wrong since the indicators are constantly on and the horn button is in the wrong place.

That's Honda's schtick these days. I quite like the always-on, half-bright front indicators - people definitely notice it, but maybe only because it's still unusual. You get used to the horn / indicators being the wrong way round pretty quickly; in fact I don't notice it jumping between bikes anymore.

Surely it's in competition with the Ducati supersport...well a cheaper version

Looking to get my hands on the CB1000R in a few months. Will you guys be doing a review of that beauty any time soon? I'm already convinced but I'd like to know your thoughts on it.
