This is the exact same trimmer I repaired! The customer made a total disaster of the carburetor and fuel lines...missing gasket and petrified diaphragm ...thanks to your other video, the one with the pole saw, I was able to correct everything, THANK YOU!!!!
Was feeling nostalgic, this was my first trimmer when we bought our first house. At the time, I didnt have the knowledge to keep it running and regretfully I got rid of it. I like the aerodynamic design.
Good job! I'm glad this was a simple fix. Otherwise these 2-cycle engines aren't worth working on. It's the same as on the Craftsman trimmers. All the parts wear quickly and aren't worth replacing usually.
We ALWAYS have to start at square 1! Diferent people have different ways of looking at stuff and explaining too. The trash man left me a small generator to work on, saying it wouldn't rev up when a load like a skillsaw was turned on.12 0r 1500 watt rig or so. I had to tear it down a ways to get to everything and the engine was a Briggs 3 or 3 1/2 horse flathead. 1st the governor was hooked to the wrong side of the throttle and then it had the wrong governor spring to let it rev up. I bet I tore it down 6 or 8 times before I finally got the right combination. We never know what's been done till we get to see it in person and then oit takes a lot of looking. Thanks and Blessings!
I really enjoyed the videos I would though like to see the process you go through and sharpening blades please that's something that I could grab my head around
Thank you James Bricken for the comment. You are the first person to mention that the fuel lines were different from the beginning to the end. Everything that could have been wrong was wrong on this trimmer. I didn't mention it as it would have made the video 10 minutes long. I try to focus on one "wrong" at a time. Ths line configuration at the end if the video is correct. Thanks again.
Thanks for the reply. I have this same trimmer, same symptoms. Replaced the fuel lines, new carb, and still have this problem. Do you want to take a stab at what else might be wrong?
Sure. If you put starting fluid or mix gas in the throat of the carb does the trimmer run for any length of time? Trying to rule out lower than acceptable compression.
It will start for a moment. but once it warms up a little it gets harder and harder to start. I dont think I have very many hours on this trimmer, but you may be right about compression, or crank seals.
Hi, I got help from your video and I have fixed same type of weed eater. It started good but doesn't stay on longer. Also when I tried to start on warm or RUN position it give a hint to start but don't start fully. What can be an issue? I will appreciate your kind suggestion and tips. Thanks Shawny
Sure. Put some rope in the spark plug hole and that will lock the engine. Then get the correct size torx in the center of the clutch drum and turn it counterclockwise
Another thing I have noticed people do is pull start engines too hard thinking that if they do as hard as they can it has more of a chance of starting. My lawn mower and blower are both old and literally if you just slowly pull the cord back one time really slow and then another time they just start
My dad had a lawn mower and constantly complained about it but pull starting so I went and barely pulled the string enough for the cord to stop about 5 times while pulling the second pull it started right up. I told him thing wont want to start when you jerk the cord fast over and over they want to slowly ease into starting
@@HomeGaragechannel I noticed this too. Im working n the same trimmer and Im trying to figure out the fuel line direction. was it wrong at the beginning of the video and you corrected it at the end? what Im asking is which was correct lol thanks
Uni Sol thanks for the comment. You know as well as most everyone else out there that I usually won't steer the repair wrong and I point you to the problem almost immediately. Although there was more wrong with it they were minor compared to the diaphragm.
Hi, I have this exact engine I'm servicing. It has some problems I was wondering if you could help me out with. I started it up, it runs then dies. I replaced the carburetor along with the fuel lines, and although it ran better, it still continues to start up and then die. Sometimes it will run for a few seconds longer then other attempts, and sometimes I will even have the ability to run it at full throttle, but then it will suddenly die while at full throttle. I replaced the spark plug as it came with the carburetor kit. When running, the engine sounds perfectly healthy and both full throttle and idle. I'm running out of ideas. Now when I start it, it doesn't start at all period. I'm familiar with engine repairs so I know what I'm doing, but I'm really confused and you probably have much more experience than I do. Thanks. Oh and by the way, starter fluid doesn't even do anything.
sure, just replacing the carb may not fix your issue. You're going to need to make some fuel adjustments to keep it running. Try Turing the L screw counter clockwise a quarter turn and see if that helps out. Also you might want to turn the idle set screw clockwise a bit to keep the engine from stalling
How much actual time did it take for the entire find and fix? Im guessing the primer wasnt quite right and you went right at it. Thats what I would have done expecting the metering lever to be out of whack. Excellent job my brother!
ulitepilot aka Zombie Dave thanks for the comment. You are very right. There was a lot of conversation about this trimmer and I had a good idea what was wrong. The primer did have an issue where they swapped the hoses around and I found out the hard way after I put it back together the first time. I didn't bother showing it as my point was made on the diaphragm.
Home Garage 100% correct in showing it the way you did. Less confusion for someone looking to solve a problem and not turn into a mechanic. Love your style. Keep it up!
@@HomeGaragechannel would have been good to add that you had to remove it again and swap the primer lines to make it run properly, Also the correct primer port for each line as well, the throttle cable was installed reverse in the last installment
Man my lines were rotted. The fuel filter is rolling around in the tank. And the little nipple from the tank to the primer broke off. Great news no one has a new tank.
Ive been trying to get my poulon ppb250e to work for about a week. I replaced the carb, fuel lines , spark plug , fuel and air filter and it started and ran for a for a few minutes while i adjusted the carb. Then it died , and now it will start and run for about 5 seconds before it dies , and then it won't start for a few minutes. I checked the spark plug, and the spark end is wet. Im using fuel my buddy gave me and told me would be fine , but my next step is to go buy premixed fuel. Does anyone have any input on what could he causing my issue.
just a question have you checked that the fuel lines are not backwards on the carb? If so the inlet screen will clog up and act the same way you just described
@HomeGaragechannel you were right. Not only did I put the fuel lines on backwards, I hooked the filter up to the thick hose. Because someone who messed with it before me did that. I watched your video again and saw how you hooked your lines up, and tried it like that, and the. Watched another video that went more in depth and realized I used the wrong line for the filter. Starting fluid on a two stroke is a big NO-NO! Come on dude, surly you know better than that? This engine gets it's lubrication from the oil mixed in the gas, starting fluid has no lubrication.

what a professional serviceman, putting the gasket on he wrong side of the diaphragm, good thing you caught that

How would this affect the gas flow? What was the issue and what corrected it?

Can you reference a time stamp on the video?
