My last name is Wood😃 I love this technique so far! I’m still watching the video but I had to comment about my last name since you are a fan of the wood🤗
Can you put resin on cutting boards, and use it as a cutting board? I know you said you don’t recommend putting food on resin, and I’m curious as to why. Also, you said resin can only handle coffee heat? Can you use it for hot plates/serving dishes or is that too hot?
You can put resin on cutting boards, but not in the areas you are going to cut on. Injesting resin is not a good thing and the knife will cut it up in thin pieces that might be too small for the eye to see. That is why you will see cutting boards with resin decorating the top and/or the handle. The resin I am using currently is from Stone Coat Countertops and it can handle resin up to 425 degrees. Highly recommend them.
With pigments, interference will be a color shifting color. If you look at it from one angle the main color will be blue, then you change your angle and you will see the blue but with an additional purple color.
Did you seal the wood first? Is there a way of adding resin without it being too much as it can't drip off if in excess? If you were doing this but it was a clock would you paint the edges of leave it as it is? Thanks
This particular tray has been sealed already, so there wasn't a need for it. If you were doing something that didn't have sides to it, you could create a wall with painters tape to keep the resin in place or allow it to drip over the edge, but be sure to tape underneath for the drips.
Hi! Love watching your videos...I learn something each time! Question: I have a small wooden tray I would like to put 3 photos on and resin. If I Mod-Podged them onto the tray prior to resining, would the photos be okay?
Thanks so much. Yes you can put them in resin. Yes you will have to seal them with mod-podge top, bottom and edges. I did 4 panels for my Mom after they lost their home and so many photos to Hurricane Harvey, but I didn't seal my edges. Occasionally there is a bubble. Still looks good, but want to pass that on. Share pictures of your project when you get it done.
Hi Clara! Do all resins create cells like this? Would it be any different if my resin has a bit of a thinner consistency than yours? I use Magic Reisin. Thank you :)
One of the colors is Color Passion. It reacts when other colors flow over it. I get all my resin colors from artist tilldeath.com use code "howdy" for additional off.
Thanks. I use pastes, pigments and glitters designed for resin. The bulk of my colors I get from Artist Till Death. Use code "Howdy" and get an additional 5% off. artisttilldeath.com
I do have several listed on my Etsy store. If there is one you are interested in but don't see it on the Etsy store. Comment on that video that you are interested. If it is still available, I will put a listing up on the Etsy store for you to purchase. www.etsy.com/shop/ClaraLawrenceArt?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=703533315
Thanks so much. If this were art only (like a canvas destined to be hung on a wall) then no a clear coat doesn't have to go on top. But, if there is any chance it will be used as functional art then yes. Once color is introduced to resin, your resin will loose it's food contact safe status. That is if you are using a resin that is designed to be food contact safe. A clear coat will bring that back into place. Any try or art of mine that might be used for food, I put a clear coat on it just to be safe.
@@ClaraLawrence Thank you - no. No question but thanks for asking. I found your channel through theirs though. Very cool stuff. New to resin but loving it.
Hi! It turned out absolutely stunning! Quick question the colours used are all pigment colours? If I were to do something similar can we use acycrlic colours? Thank you
Thanks so much. They are either pigments, pastes or metallic powders. You can color resin with acrylics, you just have to be super careful as acrylics have water in them. This will change the chemistry and too much will seize up your resin fast. It is recommended not to add over 10 percent color, but with acrylics it is much less. In the beginning that is all I used, so it is possible.
That's a tricky question. Can I reproduce this exactly with alcohol ink? It would be a tricky challenge, but you could. Can you do it straight onto wood without any additional clear coats or gesso prep? Nope. Use alcohol ink to do the blends and maybe clusters of color. Yes. Dirty pour? Nope.
When you add coloring of any type to any kind of resin, you change the chemistry of the resin. The ones that are labeled a food contact (can serve food on) will loose that protection. Adding a clear coat gets that protection back. I do not know if my client will display this tray on a fancy shelf or serve their loved on a birthday meal on it. Either way, I want me and my client to be safe.
That is a good question. Currently this has color pigments mixed into the resin so it is not food safe, but adding a food safe clear coat of resin will help. However, storing food in any type of resin vessel I would recommend, nor cutting and eating from. They are food safe for serving food. Short contact. And the brand I do use (Stone Coat Art Coat) is food safe. Hope I answered your question.
Absolutely stunning. I’m inspired to try this myself.
Just amazing ❤
The colours look fantastic
That’s gorgeous
Just beautiful! Love the way it came out!
Love it. Looks like lightning by night over the sea
Thanks. I could see that. Good imagination.
Omg I absolutely love how this turned out!!!
Thanks. This is one of my son's favorites.
Gorgeous colors.
Hello
Does heating it make is more loose (malleable)?

Beautiful colors
Thank. Can't go wrong with blues.
Looks Amazing!!! Love all the effects!! Thank you for this video💙💜
Thanks so much. Watch for more on dirty pours. A whole lot more color coming.
Very very beautiful! Good job 👍🏻
Thanks so much. I appreciate that.
Marvelous!!! Congrats!!!💐
Thanks, I appreciate that.
Beautiful!!!! And I applaud your patience with that very slow tilt 😂😂 I struggle with that, so 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 good job!
Thanks so much. I'm a fast artist and slow is tough for me too.
If you had to steal a tray what would you seal it with before you poured also on the sides what is safe to use with resin to seal the wood
Hi! I have two trays to do and Love this technique! How Much resin did you use? My trays are slightly smaller and square. Thanks!
Thanks. I usually mix about 8-10 ounces for my trays, but I do do a large batch because of multiple projects.
How much resin do you use in trays. This is beautiful 😊
Approx 8 ounces per coat.
Very nice. Before adding the colors into the cups, did you wait for the resin to thicken up a bit?
Thanks. Not really. If it is thicker, it is only because I'm working on a few projects. Just pour slow so the colors don't blend together too fast.
Thanks again!
So beautiful! Where did you find the Black currant paint?
Well that is an easy question. I get all my colors from ArtistTillDeath.com Use code "howdy" to get an additional 5% off.
Thanks so much! It's a cool color! Have you ever tried color shift acrylic paint? Folk art makes it
Beautiful
Where do you get your trays from
I got them from Target. Unfortunately they are discontinued.
Where did you buy your wood tray from I love it

Kathy Carr I seal photos with spray acrylic, like krylon. Before I put them in resin. They never are a problem.

So Beautiful. Where did you buy your large blue tray from? 😊
I got the large trays from Amazon. Baking Tray (12) - amzn.to/39ie9k2 Links are in the description too.
The white/purple area looks like a cliff while the blue/white area looks like a storm-swept sea. Maybe the coast of Scotland or Cornwall? 🤗
Thanks so much. Would love to visit Scotland some day.

Thank you so much.
Roughly how much resin did you use for this piece please.
Probably 6 oz.
I usually mix up enough for several projects, that is why it is a guess for me.
Can you put fruit in the tray

you didn’t have to seal the wood with anything to pour on it?
No I didn't. These trays already had a matte finish to them. Ready to pour on.
