But during the 7th century when the empire became dived more into religion in some cases, not all of them the church was banning all secular music except church chants. This was because secular music was deemed pagan. So Halaris found these and tried to revive them using church chants and music from all the greek refugees from Constantinople, Smyrna, and Anatolia in general.
