Big Space, Small Groups: Development of a Small-Group Learning Classroom to Meet the Needs of 240 Students

The Team-Based Learning (TBL) Classroom spans over 17,000 square feet and was designed to support active learning, as part of UT Southwestern Medical School curriculum reform implemented in 2015. To create the TBL Classroom, a significant amount of space was required. In partnership with the University’s Library, books previously stored on upper floors were digitized freeing a large space. As the Library is centrally located, it was an ideal location for a classroom utilized by many groups.
