  • This is a recent trail cam capture of the elusive mountain lion from Western North Carolina. This video was caught in Low Gap in Yancey Country submitted by Kevin H a local resident. This video was taken October 12th 2021 at 4:04 a.m. There are trail cams set all over Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee looking for Brian Laundrie. I expect in the next few months more and more wildlife will be captured on film. Who knows what the next snapshot will be?

Y’all get small ones though.. where I live in golden Colorado we get mtn lions the size of black bears.. in excess of 200lbs or more.. Derek Wolfe the former D linemen for the Denver broncos shot one above Nederland that weighed 184 lbs.. that’s massive.. I shot a cougar about 7 years ago that was 122lbs and was 6ft in length.. the cougars up here are a whole different breed 😅

No matter what NC's wildlife officers say, they are absolutely 100% here all over North Carolina....... I have friends and family that have seen them...... One was at the front door of my in-laws trying to eat from the trash bags in Bladen County, one was perched up on a thick tree branch with the long tail hanging down staring back at my brother-in-law and nephew who were 60-70ft away near the North/South Carolina border in Robeson County, one was laying on the side of the road (got hit 😥) just outside of Pembroke, and one has trail camera footage of one in Columbus County. Don't need more proof than that.

One of the Panthers traveled 400 miles in 9 days and was caught in Dublin, Ga!!! 6 were released( I was there!!!) 3 headed south toward central Florida. 2 went directly North into the 500k acre Okefenokee swamp. One was hit and killed on I75 around Ocala FL. 4 are known to have survived and at least one gave birth in the wild! They were beige in color like above photo. Black Panthers have been in South Ga. and North Florida for decades and one was sited in Everglades in extreme south Florida. I'm not making assumptions or hearing from someone else. So I just started as an Amazon delivery driver and I was out wayyy up (5000ft) community out in the woods during my last couple of deliveries for the day. It was nearly dark but still light enough to see everything. I’m pretty sure I saw a mountain lion run across the street in front of me. It was about the size of an average dog, tan fur. I was 98% sure it was a cougar until my sister told me tonight that they aren’t supposed to be around here anymore. Now I’m confused because I’m pretty dang sure it was a mountain lion.

On the Blue Ridge Parkway near Altapass Apple Orchard was my sighting. These mountains can hide anything. I seen more bear eating out of the red lobster trash in Asheville than the wild. The mountain lion is a different story. I would prefer to see them on camera though. Lots of stories but not alot of proof. I want to get this video of one walking across the putting green at Mt Mitchell Golf Course. It's the most difinative video I have seen from this area. The black ones are the most debated.

Some people say they don't exist around the Appalachian Mountains. They need to open their eyes if that is the case. 5 cats? Your in cat land... I would not feel comfortable there.

@@HighCountryRocks they are quite stealthy.. I spend a LOT of time in the hills and although there has been a spike in numbers and sightings in the last 5 years around here they have always been around... when we start seeing them like this there must be a lot of them. Deer population has dropped accordingly as well. Local folks shoot em on sight .. should have been doing that for years. ( I have) I have hunted and shot a good number of lions in my life and I think they are fascinating creatures but I don’t want to see them when I go out. If you’re seeing lions when you go out during the day that’s a good indication there are too many. They destroyed the local deer population in about 5 years. They should start recovering soon though.. we’ve started thinning the cats pretty effectively lately. Lion killed a woman up on Mt Hood a couple years ago.( across the Colombia river from me)
