Janine, from the 9th to 13th century we had the Chola Empire of South India, who conquered most of Sout-East Asia, such as Malaysia, Indonesia, etc, That is why our epic of 'Ramayan' is so well known there. In the 20th century, Indian labour looked after the rubber plantations of these countries. Malay and Indonesian words such as roti (as you have mentioned) is actually a Hindi word inducted into the Malay language. So are words such as Istri (woman), kursi (chair), chutti (holiday) and several more.
Claim 😂 no indonesian book recorded that chola conquered indonesia, maybe in sumatra only when sriwijaya empire era but nothing indian or hindu influence in sumatra island. You said chola 9-13 century? but before that indonesia islands already hindu and buddhist. And the last you said "kursi" is hindi word? It's big wrong because "kursi" word come from arabic word and it found in qur'an holly book of muslim. indonesian language belong to austronesian language and malay language with loan words from
1. Arabic
2. Local language
3. Dutch
4. Portugese
5. Dravidian/hindi
6. China
@@dawudsajo4446 It's possible I could be partially wrong about the Cholas,, but you have words like 'puteri', (daughter), putera' (son), 'aksara' (alphabets), 'Bahasa' (language), 'bumi' (earth), and several more which are derived from the ancient Indian language Sanskrit.
@@MrJoegurung I not deny some indonesia words come from sanskrit, but I just ignore kursi word because kursi word came from arabic even persian!/iran use kursi word for chair it's loan word from arabic because this word found in qur'an.
