There are 3 types of food in ayurveda and according to our hindu tradition they are Satvic, rajasic and tamasic. Satvic is considered as best food and tamasic is considered as food which affects our body and mind. Onion and garlic comes under tamasic. Try not to eat onion and garlic for 15 days and you will see the difference in your mind set. I completely agree that it’s good in nutrition but not always. This is the reason both onion and garlic is not used on festival days in food.
