  • The nervous system is a complex network of nerves and cells that carry messages to and from the brain and spinal cord to various parts of the body. Trillions of nerve cells are linked together in a remarkably organized way to form this control system of the body. Our ability to move, breathe, digest food, sense, feel, all come from complex functions of the nervous system. Unfortunately, in our fast paces society we are left with many nervous system disorders, ranging from restless leg syndrome to cancer. Some nervous system disorders may be temporary and self-resolve, while other nervous system problems are chronic and progressive.

The use of herbal remedies may improve your health and possibly treat nervous system disorders. Research shows that astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus), a fundamental herb in traditional Chinese medicine, can help keep this body system healthy. Earlier research has shown that astragalus extract can potentially be used as a nerve growth-promoting factor, which can be beneficial for the growth of peripheral nerve axons. For the current study, researchers from Taiwan investigated the effects of astragalus extract on regeneration in a rat sciatic nerve transection model, which is a model of neuropathic pain or nerve pain. Nerve pain is an intense type of chronic pain, often described as sharp, stinging, or burning. It occurs due to damaged nerves or a problem with the nervous system. The researchers findings conclude that astragalus can help regulate local inflammatory conditions, enhance nerve regeneration, and potentially increase recovery from a severe peripheral nerve injury.
Their are other herbs that are also effective. For instance, nervine herbs that are used in traditional herbalism are Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), Chamomile (Matricaria recutita), Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata), Skullcap (Scutellaria laterifolia), Lavender (Lavendula officinalis), Rose flower (Rosa spp.), and Catnip (Nepeta cataria). These herbs belong to the nervine group of healing plant medicines that calm the nerves, which are sedative and anti-depressant. There are also Adaptogen herbs that help your body become more resilient to stress and can support your nervous system health. These herbs include: Tulsi/ Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Asian Ginseng (Panax ginseng), Eleuthero (Eleutherococcus senticosus), and Reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum). These herbs are safe for most people and can be taken daily with food, as supplements, tonics, in tinctures, pills or as a tea.
An overall healthy diet full of nutrient-dense foods and void of processed foods will also help you prevent nervous system diseases. There are also a few nutrients that are especially beneficial to the human nervous system, they include Omega 3’s and other healthy fats, Vitamin D3, B Vitamins (especially B12) and Magnesium. On the other hand, you should avoid central nervous system disruptors, such as MSG, aspartame and cigarettes. Little do most people realize that food agents and cigarettes create more than just an imbalance of the central nervous system (CNS), they create anxiety, nervousness, agitation and depression, and this is what most doctors often refer to as "chemical imbalance." Brewer's yeast which contains lots of vitamin B and nutritional yeast are both great substitutes for that salty kick you're looking for in your food. Stevia is a great natural substitute for aspartame. I have also linked in the description videos that I have previously shared on astragalus and nutritional yeast.
When used appropriately, herbs can greatly enrich your quality of life. Therefore, it is a good idea to introduce yourself to new herbs in small doses until you know how they may affect your unique body and mind. Please also discuss the risks and benefits of herbs for your ailment with your herbalist or doctor before taking them.

Thank you! Flaxseed oil has been found to cause prostate cancer in men because the lignans have been removed from the oil. On the other hand ground flaxseeds appear to be beneficial for male consumption.
