    Wonderful site to see Zuchinni looks so good. Hot and humid summer night. Your family is thriving through the weeks. The amount of gardens you have is so much work, but way over a years worth I imagine. Store away the excess for the years the land does not produce, so I hear people say. Working outside the home and Farm too. Wow, I know you do it because you are passionate and intentional. Such entertaining videos. Thsnks

    We invested in a $200 electric oil press and we press sunflower seeds for oil. You can harvest seeds, dry them (screens, etc), and press the whole seed (hull and all) and you'll have lovely oil and you can feed the hulls to chickens or pigs or compost them. We feel the press is well worth the investment.

    I enjoy the garden videos. Valuable information
    I don't get upset from the critters anymore...I have just decided to live with them...we have invaded their space so they have no where to go. They eat alot of my hard work but as long as they divide with me lol lol
    I loved the "I promise my kids get a bath every night" 😆

    Down here in georgia deer are almost like rats or rabbits. You can not kill enough to get rid of them. So the best thing is to harvest as many as you want and invite others to kill them also. You will never get rid of them.

    Just an idea with the sunflowers and your chickens- I gave my chickens the sunflower seed head (flower) and they picked out the seeds and ate the head. They LOVE sunflowers. Thank you for sharing your garden and knowledge- love your videos

    Deer wiped out my corn and beans. Also have been nibbling on winter squash. They are wingless locust. Diakon radish is supposed to accumulate sulfur but it will deplete sulfur till it starts to rot in the soil. I am contemplating putting out 3 D electric fence which you can look up on the youtubes. Its 3 strands with one place out from the other two strands. I tried painting stakes with the bone sauce around crops but it didnt work. Probably only works on fruit trees painted on heavy.

      We were struggling with the bone sauce at first, finally figured out its got to be right on top of whatever you don't want them to eat, we also went through the woods and put it in all the deer trails which has stalled them for now. Our deer fence at one of the gardens is like the 3D fence, its worked so far. It can be so discouraging when fighting deer, but don't give up! Thank you for the advice on the Diakon Radish, we may have to give it a try!

    I planted tomatoes, peas and green beans in two of my raised beds which are 2 feet off the ground. You have problem with deer, mine was wood chucks. They didnt get all my tomatoes but cleaned out everything else. I need to find something that will get rid of them besides a 22.

    I hope yall got some rain by now. I have had over 8 inches in July. I'm probably gonna lose most of my garden this week bc of where my garden is. Usually my garden thrives when others dont.

    I've not found anything that keeps deer out other than a really tall fence or a dog on a really long overhead rope and even then they know how far that dog can come

    I have had a lot of groundhog problems this year, does the liquid fence work on them? I have also had a lot of coons and deer are all around but my fence has worked so far. That tall corn may be good for coons as if you can't jump up and get it maybe they can't either, my hickory king is just putting ears out, in the past I haven't had any trouble with it blowing over as it is so strong. Thanks for the good video, I enjoyed it.

    Why do you have to scrape the seeds off of the sunflowers? Couldn't you just give the sunflower heads to the chickens and let them scratch them out ? I was just wondering, I flat out love y'all's videos. Thank you.

    • @TrueGritAppalachianWays
      @TrueGritAppalachianWays  2 роки тому +2

      Yes it is, when the grass took the corn that we eventually tilled under, we were out there pulling by hand, but if gardening and growing food was easy everyone would do it. Don't give up my friend!

      @@MimsysGarden no it’s a totally different process. I’m not sure how it’s made she left a link to it in the video notes I think. Billy at perma pastures farm makes it. If I’m not mistaken it takes about 8 hrs just to make one batch. Check out his videos on it and they sell it off they’re website

    Sorry to tell you this , but your corn is already being contaminated , by being planted so close to that highway. All the fumes and exhaust is constantly wafting across them , and over time they absorb it . But gone are the horse and wagon days . We've brought the convenience of city life into the heart of our country life and it all started with asphalt roads........
