I bought this stove from Obadiah's. Great people, great service. The stove is amazing. A heads up to future buyers, there has been a design change since this video was made. I assume to make it draw better. My stove is easy to light and does not smoke.

      How's the stove holding up?

I have had zero issues. Heats the entire house no problem and is pretty efficient for its' size. We have the glass door and, because it pumps out so much heat, it is difficult to stand in front of to cook. Maybe keep a blacksmith apron.😂 If I were using it to cook daily, I would want the insulated firebox door, rather than the glass.

Woody could you possibly do a detailed video on the stove how the temperature gage in the back works .how the water heater tank works.how do you clean out underneath the oven. how do you adjust the heat from one side to the other. and as the lady just before me said, how do you get the temp up on the top of the stove on a high temp, but you don't cook yourself. Eight updated video showing all this would be really wonderful we all love the stove but we really need detailed information on exactly how the stove operates thank you

      Hi Robin,
We had a chance to address the thermostatic draft control (temperature gauge) and oven cleanout in a seperate video, here: ua-cam.com/video/KipaAZRm1fU/v-deo.html. But to reiterate on the draft control: The thermostatic draft control works by setting a temperature control. Most folks set it to the middle setting (3). This will automatically regulate the draft on the stove. Therefore, if you had a really hot fire going in the morning, but didn’t want to have the stove running on hot and going out by the time you would get home, you would set the damper control. This would allow the fire to burn hot for a few hours or until the stove reaches temperature, and it will close the draft on the firebox so the stove will automatically damper down.
The water reservoir works by manually filling the tank with water and manually dispersing the water thru a spigot on the side of the tank. The water reservoir gets hot with radiant heat off the rear of the stove and does not plumb into anything, as it is not a pressurized system.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "adjusting heat from one side to the other". You can control the entire stove by using a low, medium, or high damper control setting. Otherwise, you can either circulate the heat over to the oven for baking, or all of the heat comes out the front of the stove as convection heat. There is no way to make one side of the cooktop hot but not the other. The cooktop will have a variety of temperatures due to location of the cooktop in relation to the firebox.
I hope this info helps, and please let us know if you have any additional questions!

Beautiful Woody thanks for all the thought in this new world class stove. I love the cast iron cook tops with porcelin, but I don't understand how they get hot with the baffles underneath them it seems like that would make them cooler. In the traditional design the fire is directly beneath the plates. Although I really like the secondary burn, does this affect how hot the tops get??? Thanks

Awharry36 hello Awharty36 we purchased the stove as well I was wondering could you possibly give some more information on what you do and don't like about the stove and any tips or tricks that you have about it I have search the entire Internet for more detailed information about the stove and how to correctly make it work and haven't found much information. Do you have the water tank on the back of the stove. Thank you so much

The cook top must be made of steel as there are welds on the bottom of the plate where the anti-warp braces are.

I am now using the Heco 520 after 20 years cooking on a Pioneer Maid. The Heco burns all the wood to powdery ash which I quite like. And the convention feature heats the house VERY well. The baffles do seem to keep the stovetop from being as hot as I am used to. By the time the top is hot enough to cook on I don't want to stand next to the stove to cook. I'm wondering about removing the baffles will it damage the stove?

      Hi Ellen,
No you cannot remove the baffles, by doing so you run the risk of over firing the stove. Are you using glass doors on your Heco? If so, switching to the insulated doors might make things more comfortable for you as the glass doors allow more heat to radiate.

Yes, it is very "baffling" why they would do that...I want this stove but with the direct fire cooking others have...it just seems like that baffle and the rectangle stove top plates would be a no go for me...
I hope one day they figure out how to do everything else but still allow open fire cooking like other stoves do...this is my very favorite except for those things...I love the oven size, the fire box size, and the warming shelf height and water system, but I can't go for the other issues...

do they make a cookstove that has the firebox on the right side in stead of left?

I am actually quite upset that they put those rectangle plates in the stovetop...give us the round removable rings so we can cook direct fire (wok) and it would be the perfect stove...

You say wood or coal... Would it burn Anthracite coal? I know there are a couple of types of coal.
