Especially after the start of the playthrough having the moment of Nene buying a droid only to have it tragically explode standing out, HK being a successful droid purchase (with a bit of Ithorian extortion) to make up for that initial loss and being everything she ever wanted in a companion is just _flawless._
Instantly cracking up at his use of "meatbag" and how she really likes how he insists on calling her "Master" and doesn't want him to stop made everything just… too good - and it's only just begun.

About what you need to do to repair HK-47, it is going to be hard to do for your character, but I think it's still possible. Kinda.
However, for it to work, you will need to dedicate the next several level ups toward this goal instead of other things. AND it will only be partial. (you would only be able to do the first repair, and the effort needed would be more than what would be worth it.)
This is my second draft of this comment, as the first version (which took me hours to research and calculate as I wrote it) ended up with me writing down all the steps as they had to be done, and with me sadly coming to the conclusion that you won’t be able to fully repair HK-47 before the point in the story where it isn’t possible to gain the benefits of the repairs. After that point in the story, it is apparently still possible to do the repairs, but you don’t get the permanent stat bonuses to HK-47 anymore.
HOWEVER, not all is lost.
I mean, technically you would still waste your time trying to repair him with your current build, BUT you can watch and react on stream to the HK-47 dialogues from the repairs even if you didn't get them in game. They are all on UA-cam.
Or more precisely, there is one video with all of the relevant dialogue that you won’t be able to get, and it does NOT contain any spoiler.
All of the dialogue shown in the video in question can be accessed in-game as soon as you buy HK-47 if you have 17 in Repair skill.
The name of the video is “Kotor 1 - Most of HK 47s Dialogue Options From Repairing Him” by the “Almar Winfield” channel.
As for the rest of my original comment, I will post it in reply to this comment, for posterity’s sake, and so that my time wasn’t wasted as much.
Here is the rest of the original comment (so that my time isn’t wasted as much)(everything below this is the original comment):
As for the pros and cons first (without spoilers as much as possible):
Doing the repairs (there are 4 of them) gives you the following:
- Special character dialogue when talking to HK-47 about the new things he remembers after each repair.
- Permanent stat bonuses for HK-47 after each repair.
HOWEVER, even if you don't do the repairs, you can still have HK-47 in your party and still have all of the dialogues with HK-47 commenting about what you do and about what happens while he is in the active.
So it's your choice whether you decide to dedicate yourself for many levels just to raise repair with a character bad at that type of skill, or if you are content with just having HK-47 in your active party with him commenting on many things.
Of note, you can watch and react on stream to the HK-47 dialogues from the repairs even if you didn't get them in game. They are all on youtube.
You can do that either after you finish playing Kotor 1 OR after you finish 3 planets in any order among Tatooine, Kashyyyk, Manaan and Korriban (aka after you get 4 star map pieces including the one from Dantooine), since you cannot repair him anymore after that point in the story.
So in short, if you choose to try to repair him, you have to dedicate a bunch of levels just for that (and a lot of credits), but if you choose to not do the repairs, then you can still have HK-47 in your party, but he won't have the permanent combat stat bonuses.
Now, if you chose to do the repairs, here is what you need to do:
You are currently a Soldier level 8 and Jedi Guardian level 2.
In this case, we now only need to care about your Jedi Guardian levels.
You are close to level 3.
The things you need to get from level ups are the following:
- 1 Feat (tier 1 of “Implant”)
- 3 Force Powers (Force Valor (tier 1), Knight Valor (tier 2) and Master Valor (tier 3))
- A few more attribute points in Intelligence
- 9 skill points in the Repair skill
You will also need Credits to buy the “Calrissian's Utility Belt +3”(gives +3 to repair and other skills) from one of the shop keepers near the landing place of your spaceship on Dantooine. It will cost 3000 credits.
Goals to reach:
- 1st repair needs 8 repair skills.
- 2nd repair needs 11 repair skills.
- 3rd repair needs 14 repair skills.
- 4th repair needs 17 repair skills.
Things to do in order:
=> Jedi Guardian level 3 (total character level 11):
You need to do the following:
- Take the “Implant” Feat tier 1 (in order to be able to equip the Memory Package implant that you have (it gives +1 intelligence)).
- Take the Force Valor (tier 1) force power.
- save your single skill point (Do NOT use the skill point this level)(This is because it costs you 2 skill points to raise Repair by 1, so you want to save them for the next level to be able to increase Repair by 1 at the cost of 2 skill points.) (you currently only get 1 skill point per level because of your low Intelligence stat)
=> After that level up(Jedi Guardian level 3):
- Equip the “Memory Package” implant on your Nana/Ellen and keep it equipped (it increases your Intelligence attribute, and it also boosts the effect of the “Force/Knight/Master Valor” force power).
=> Jedi Guardian level 4 (total character level 12):
- Put 1 attribute point into Intelligence (You gain 1 attribute point per 4 class level, you need to put all of your next attribute points into intelligence in order to reach the required amount faster, since the amount of skill points per level is determined by you Intelligence attribute).
- Take the “Knight Valor” (tier 2 of Force Valor) force power.
- use 2 skill points to get 1 in Repair. (If you have any more skill points, but aren’t able to get more in repair, do not use the remaining skill point, instead save it for next levels for repair)
=> After that level up (Jedi Guardian level 4):
- At this point, you probably have 1 in the Repair skill. (This means that the items that increase the amount of Repair skills can now have an effect, as you need a minimum of 1 before they can do anything.)
- Buy the “Calrissian's Utility Belt +3” (gives +3 to repair and other skills) from one of the shop keepers near the landing place of your spaceship on Dantooine. It will cost 3000 credits.
- You can earn credits easily by doing the swoop bike races on Tatooine and Manaan (and save scumming, which isn’t bad in my opinion).
- You can also earn a lot more credits when you sell things if you sell your stuff to the shop keeper at the “Yavin” space station. (You can go there with your spaceship. It is among the choices alongside the planet choices in the cockpit of your ship.)
- At this point, you have an Intelligence of 11 (or rather 12 with the “Memory Package” implant equipped). At 12, your intelligence gives you a +1 bonus to the Repair skill. This brings your Repair skill to 2 (with intelligence bonus included).
=> Jedi Guardian level 5 (total character level 13):
- use skill points to get more in Repair. (If you have any more skill points, but aren’t able to get more in repair, do not use the remaining skill point, instead save it for next levels for repair)
=> Jedi Guardian level 6 (total character level 14):
- use skill points to get more in Repair. (If you have any more skill points, but aren’t able to get more in repair, do not use the remaining skill point, instead save it for next levels for repair)
=> After that level up (Jedi Guardian level 6):
- At this point, you now probably have 2 in the Repair skill (3 with intelligence bonus included)
=> Jedi Guardian level 7 (total character level 15):
- Take the “Master Valor” (tier 3 of Force Valor) force power (since this is the level at which it becomes available)
- use skill points to get more in Repair. (If you have any more skill points, but aren’t able to get more in repair, do not use the remaining skill point, instead save it for next levels for repair)
=> After that level up (Jedi Guardian level 7):
- Equip the “Calrissian's Utility Belt +3”. This brings your Repair skill to 5 (or 6 with intelligence bonus included).
- Using the “Master Valor” force power increases ALL of your attributes (and saving throws, and it does this for all party members) by +5. At this point, you have an Intelligence of 12 (with the “Memory Package” implant equipped). This force power thus temporarily brings your Intelligence to 17, and thus gives you a temporary additional +2 bonus to your Repair skill. This brings your repair skill to 8 (with intelligence bonuses included).
=> First Repair of HK-47:
- With a Repair skill of 8 (with Master Valor activated before starting the dialogue for the repair with HK-47), you can now do the First Repair of HK-47.
=> Jedi Guardian level 8 (total character level 16):
- Put 1 attribute point into Intelligence (You gain 1 attribute point per 4 class level, you need to put all of your next attribute points into intelligence in order to reach the required amount faster, since the amount of skill points per level is determined by you Intelligence attribute).
- use skill points to get more in Repair. (If you have any more skill points, but aren’t able to get more in repair, do not use the remaining skill point, instead save it for next levels for repair)
=> After that level up (Jedi Guardian level 8):
- At this point, you have an Intelligence of 12 (or rather 13 with the “Memory Package” implant equipped). At 13, the intelligence bonus is the same as at 12, so it still gives you a +1 bonus to the Repair skill.
- At this point, you now probably have 3 in the Repair skill (4 with intelligence bonus included), and with the “Calrissian's Utility Belt +3” equipped, you have a Repair skill of 6 (7 with intelligence bonus included).
- However, now that your Intelligence is at 13 (an odd number), the +5 bonus from the “Master Valor” force power is better, as it brings your Intelligence from 13 to 18, which means an additional +3 bonus to Repair. This brings your repair skill to 10.
And I now realize that we still need two more levels to get to 11 in Repair for the Second HK-47 Repair, but by the point you reach that level, you will have passed the point in the story where it isn’t possible to gain the benefits of repairing HK-47.
So I kind of did all of these calculations and all of this planning for nothing.
It took me a few hours to do all this… Oh well. At least I refreshed myself on how the system worked since it had been many years since I last played this game.
