- A Price Pfister Model 49E bathroom faucet is leaking from the spout. This video covers the repair steps needed to fix he leak, and also covers the modifications to the replacement cartridge that are needed to prep the cartridge for installation.
The original valve cartridge is not available any more. A replacement cartridge is available but requires modifications depending on the old cartridge type that is in the faucet. The new cartridge has to be modified using a combination of parts from the old and new cartridge. This video covers the required cartridge modifications.

I had in the Model 49E. Some might need it, depending on the cartridge used in other faucets. I was able to reuse the original retainer nut.

Thank you for an excellent presentation!
You're very welcome!
Great video!!! I appreciate it!
Glad it was helpful!
This helped A LOT! Thank you for your detailed explanation!
Now, I had a mishap in attempting to removed the handle base as it was severely corroded inside. I broke the handle off.
I have the exact same model as you and Pfister is sending me replacement handles... but do you happen to have any idea how to get the broken part out of the base?
Thanks again for the excellent video.
Try using some penetrating oil and letting it soak through for a day or two . It’s not a sure thing, but might help. Good luck with it. They can be difficult to get loose.
Thank you for this video. I got the right part, I liked your instructions, but the leak was coming from the cold water handle, and replacing the valve didn't correct it. Now with the hot water handle on (which wasn't affected) the leak is still happening.
The hot water could be back feeding through a leak in the o-rings or a cartridge that is not fully tightened on the cold side. See if the o-rings were damaged or if the cold water cartridge needs to be tightened a little more. Could also be the cold water cartridge was cross threaded too. If one of the mentioned items are not causing the issue, then I am at a loss of what else it could be, please share with us if you get it figured out. Thanks.
Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Could you please tell me how you removed the little cap from the top of the faucet... before you used the Phillips head screwdriver. Thanks
Just pry it up with finger nail or if stuck, use small screwdriver. You can see me taking it off at 2:15 in the video. Hope this helps. Look luck with it.
Thanks for your quick reply!! I’ve tried everything to get that little cap off! Ive used a small screwdriver, pliers, etc., now I’m thinking about heating it up next!!
I’m trying some CLR Limeaway, waiting for that to soak. I won’t bother you anymore. Thank you very much!!
Let that lime away work on it and see. Could also rotate it too if careful not to scratch it.
I had the same problem and used a razor blade to start the separation. Did the trick.
