HOWWW? dear lord plz let there be arcs of book 2 at bea. totes agree on not fully being able to wrap my head around the magic. you're just kind of thrown in and expected to pick up on everything as you go. not necessarily a bad thing imo, but it definitely took some getting used to. WE HAVE THE SAME FEELINGS ON ALL THE CHARACTERS. i love them all so freaking much. that slow burn romance doe. i'm all about that!

One of my favorite consist of the Dancing scene between Merik and Safi and THEN the scene at the end where Aeduan protected Iseult. So many emotions in the end, damn, I should have waited to read it closer to the release of the sequel (yet no regrets). But you are definitely right, the puppeteer will be a difficult challenge for Iseult. Such a great start to a new series.
YES THE ROMANCE WAS AMAZING!! I also ship Aeduan and Issuelt OMG!! Evrane was such a great character. Yes when Kullen died, that was so sad. But you are right, he might not be dead. I'm also planning on re-reading this book, I can not wait :D

Aeduan + Isoult 4EVER!!! My favourite ship, definitely. I think the Nomatsi are the people from the previous empire and that's why Aeduan knows her language and ways. Also, I think Isoult has the same power as the puppeteer and that's why she can't make threadstones and she can see the broken threads. I really liked this book and I can't wait for the next one. Really good.

A little late to the party, I just recently read this book. I was kind of putting it off because all the people I trust in terms of book recs loved this and I just wanted to prolong my pain, I guess (lol). BUT OMFG IT'S SO GOOD! I loved this book, more than I thought I would. I actually love this setting and world building technique (how we are just dropped into the world and 'shown' things instead of being 'told about them' aka infodump), very reminiscent of GRR Martin and Gaiman. And I wholeheartedly agree about Aeduen and Iseult being theultimate OTP. Their interactions...argggh. And I loved the push and pull of Safi and Merik as well. I had the same theory of it being her uncle who tracked them and planned all of this. I love that we see the other side of his character, how he has spent years cultivating his reputation as a drunk but how purposeful he really is. And I get the same feel from the seemingly foppishly Leopold. Like there's more to them than meets the eye. Again, I love that we are shown this through the perspectives of other characters instead of bwjng told about it. For some reason, I kinda shipped the Empress Vaness and Leopold after their encounter (which gave me goosebumps, it was so good!) Overall there's so much to love in this book. It's expansive as well as detail oriented. Love it! (sorry for such a long comment :P)
