The number of all time favorite books I have gotten from your previous standalone recommendations video is astounding. I'm still making my way through it, and hope to read all of those. And now, there's a new one to add to the list!! Thank you! ❤
Long time viewer here, been following your channel since 2015, (like I was there during the top 5 Wednesday days omfg what a time to be alive!!) Anyways, I just wanted to give you some love because despite all the changes in this wild platform you have stuck through it all and remained so authentically you and haven’t changed anything about yourself to fit other people’s mold and it’s just so inspiring 🤍
omg thank you so much! That's so sweet. I've gotten a few comments similar to this recently and I so appreciate it. Sometimes it feels like that platform tries to demand different types of content at different times and I'm just glad people like what I've been doing all these years :)
Circe and The Death Of Vivek Oji are two of my favorite books of all time 😫 Edit: The Starless Sea, although not a favorite, was definitely an intriguing and entertaining read for me
Okay so this is where it really shows that I have been following you since 2018 because like 90% of these are faves of mine as well thanks to you (and I can't thank you enough for that!!!). I am wayyyy overdue for a re-read of Morgenstern's books, and I really need to pick Thistlefoot up already 🤩
So many books here sounds like something I need to read IMMEDIATELY. The ones I’ve already read (Uprooted and Night Circus) are amazing, so bodes well for the rest of this list. Also, so excited to have my next Ava Reid lined up, since I struck out hard with the most recent book I picked up from her.
Spinning Silver, Starling House, Year of the Reaper by Makia Lucier, and The Hollow Places will always be some of my favorite standalones. I'm currently reading Eleanore of Avignon which is historical fiction but really good so far and takes place in medieval europe during the black death.
After hearing you talk about uprooted I realised I have started that at some point. Probably never finished it? Can't remember an end. Maybe had it from the library? I guess I'll hunt it down now. The cover looks wild. I remember the German edition to have a nature vibe, with a big tree on the cover.
My goal for next year is to reread the night circus, just the best. Read The Burnings this year which is potentially my fav witchy book ever. Once and future witches and a master of djinn have been added to my tbr 😊 Do you have a fav Anne Marie McLemore? So many of these I’ve read are also my favs 💜 Hope you are doing well!
My favorite Stand-Alones fantastical (I'm including horror that has a mystical element) are Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton, The Night Circus, The Starless Sea, Uprooted, IT, NOS4A2, Imaginary Friend, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, Jenna Starborn (The only science fiction), Dracul by Dacre Stoker and JD Barker, Elantris, and Warbreaker (currently standalones).
So many great picks on this list. (I was getting ready to put The Once and Future Witches in this comment, but you included it!) I borrowed a copy of The Weaver and the Witch Queen in a little free library in my neighborhood; hoping to get to that soon.

So happy to see Nettle and Bone in here, it was my first thought when I saw the video title!! Love that one
Okay, okay, you've convinced me to finally try Thistlefoot.
YAY!

Uprooted mention! It’s my favorite book and I always recommend it because of how good it is.
Thank you for the recs Sam! I’ve been wanting to read standalones in between the series I’m currently in 😊

I need to read-read the night circus 😅
Do ittttt
I may do a year of mainly rereads! I miss a few of these worlds.

8:43 they call him Bridegroom
ah yes thank you!
@ I love that book so much
Have you read Chime by Franny Billingsley? It's kind of an older YA [moment of silence for 2011 being old now] but I think you might love it!
Great list! Thx!
I have read these all🎉😂❤
The Golem and the Jinni actually has a sequel. Was not as good as the 1st, in my opinion.
