That is, the Israeli tank brigades have had better training since 2006, and almost all Israeli tanks now have the 'Trophy' anti-missile system installed on them, which can destroy incoming anti-tank rounds before they strike a tank. As well, of the 51 Merkava tanks that were hit during the Second Lebanon War, only five were completely destroyed with the loss of their crews. Israel's design philosophy for armored systems is simple--they don't have a lot of spare troops to throw at an enemy, and so they design everything to prioritize the safety of the troops/crew, even if it costs more and requires a ton more investment in research. Ironically, this is a large part of the reason why the US military is so defensive of its relationship with the Israeli military when politicians try to cut the "aid." We help fund their military R&D, and so we get first access to the defensive tech that they design*. An example of this is the Trophy system, which our newest Abrams is being equipped with (it has a (90% success rate against even Russian heavy Kornets, so pretty much nothing an insurgent group is going to have will even touch our Abrams in a future war).
*It's not just defensive tech. They are also tied with the US at the top of countries who develop genuinely worrying cyberweapons (eg. Stuxnet/Pegasus). This also puts them at the top of the list of countries that might have developed the cyber equivalent to nuclear weapons, designed to decimate an enemy nation's infrastructure (eg. blowing gas lines, destroying power grids, shutting down water treatment plants, breaking dams, blocking communication, etc).

Merkava mk3 is out of service in all unit for more than a year now.
There's no similarity between mk2 and mk3. Not in terms of size, armor layout, main hun caliber and auxiliary weapons
There's no such thing as a mk5. Its just an upgraded mk4, thats how we call it.

The Turret on the old and especially new Merkava is SO futuristic looking!!!! Coolest looking turret on any tank ever for sure! I know looks mean nothing,..well not nothing,..the US Air Force has been trying to get rid of the amazing A10 forever becasue they hate the way it looks and looks were an admitted reason among other for going with the F35 over its competitor,..in battle tho I know it doesn’t matter although the saucer shape surely deflects incomming rounds much better than competitors with 45-90 degree turret angles right?
The A10 go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt, and the infantry and special forces troops become happy, and safe.
The A10 is going to stay in service for a very long time to come. PERIOD>
most of the time looks do mean that design is practical. A10 still looks good, F35 looks very bad with its huge belly.
The reason why the turret looks different than other tanks is partly a design choice to have highly sloped armor, and party a function of the interior layout of the tank being completely unique. Most tanks have their engines in the rear, and their ammo stored between the interior and the engine. However, the Merkeva has the engine in the front, which means that anything that penetrates the frontal armor will also have to make it through the engine block before it even gets to the crew and the ammunition. Additionally, the turret has an internal ammo storage in the rear (which is why is it so long compared to other tank turrets), with armored panels designed to redirect any explosions outward, rather than down. Effectively, no tank on earth can take a Merkeva IV in a face to face fight, as a direct 120mm AP round might take out the engine of a Merkeva, but it won't kill the crew, destroy the ammo, or incapacitate the turret; conversely, the same hit on even an Abrams is much more likely to kill the crew and render the tank inoperable, as the engine block isn't acting as a shield. The downside of this is, the Merkeva is heavy, expensive, and required a ton of tuning to eliminate some heat management issues that came from the positioning of the engine.

Etan looks like our Patria AMV 8x8, the same type of hatch that AMV got. Inside it is same kind too.
Some Patria variants got the Elbit UT30MK2 turret, which is very similar to the turret on the Eitan IFV

The merkava Barak is actually still an Mk 4 because the marks go by the mechanical systems and not electrical systems and the mechanical systems haven't changed

The Merkava tanks are heavily armored and well protected which are ideal for the type of weather and terrain Israel fights in, but the tank would be too heavy to fight in Ukraine, or the European continent except in either frozen conditions, or dry. If the ground gets too wet/muddy, the tank becomes a stuck in the mud easy target.
I wonder why Israel doesn't use .50 cal MGs? The .50 cal. penetrates better for both lightly armored vehicles and structures and can be used as a "reconnaissance" tool when entering war zones.
