Quicker easier way to replace trunk release button on Hyundai Elantra GT

- Should work on Hyundai Elantra GT models between 2013 to 2017. But should also work on any Hyundai or Kia that uses trunk release button part # 81260. (Bought mine on eBay for $30.) Rather than pull all the trim off to access the button from behind, you can simply drill through the tabs from inside the button.

👍👍👍 Easy peasy, I guess after 5 years or more in this state and my wife complaining about my car, thank goodness I found this video, it worked as advertised. Great, thank you.
Worked like a dream; only had to drill one side before it popped out! (The dealership was charging me $500 for this fix.) Thanks a ton for sharing :)
500!! wow! daylight robbery.
dealership quoted me $750, so ridiculous
My trunk release button literally fell apart so when looking for a solution I went right to UA-cam. Thanks for posting this video. I found the part on Amazon for about $17 including tax. The old button popped right out with a flat head screw driver. It took a couple of minutes from start to finish. This was my 3rd "repair" I've found on UA-cam and total savings has got to be over $1000. Again, thanks for posting this video! 👍
Whatever was left of the white plastic button fell in my hand today - thanks for this!! I will order the part and try this.
You’re a genius! What a simple approach. When fixing mine, the switch had enough play that I could fit a flat blade screwdriver along the side to release the tab. But I wouldn’t have thought of that without your video.
Thanks for the post!
thanks for the tip, worked like a charm
Thanks so much for posting this video! I ordered the part that you showed from Amazon for about $20. I got same day delivery. And following the suggestion of Michal Wawrzenczyk, I was able to remove what was left of the latch with a flathead screwdriver. And replaced the latch in under two minutes. Thanks for saving me a ton of money from what the dealership would have cost according to the others. 😊
Yes!! I love it! Yea my dealership wanted to charged me $260 for the part and $580 total!
Bro, I’m a wheelchair user and don’t know shit about cars. Props! Definitely earned the sub!😂😂
Got my part, and I can attest this is completely accurate. My latch eroded most likely due to rustproofing chemicals. I couldn't figure where to drill but I went for it anyways with a 1/4" drill blind at an angle, and then literally 5 seconds later it pops out. There's essentially nothing else there other than the latch so there is no risk of damage of anything else. Reattachment is a no-brainer. I was going to put this off indefinitely due to cost, but it's worth getting the part OEM since you save yourself so much money and hassle from sending it to a mechanic. Thanks so much!
This video was so direct and to the point. Idk why it wasn't showing up higher in my search list. I watched at least 5 other crappy videos that didn't help. Thank you. 👍🏻

Idea works great in my 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT as well.... husband had to drill both corners and it popped out, putting new parts from Amazon for $17 dollars and boom..like brand new...Thank you for sharing your ideas 👍👍👍
I really appreciate this video which is so simple to follow and helped me save lots of money. So great you included the part number as it contributed to making this entire process super simple. Thank you very much indeed!
Thank you so much!!! I used hair cutting scissors to gently remove the piece out of its socket.
This video saved me $580! There’s what the dealer wanted $260 of the being just for the part.
I ordered the part from Amazon for $18 thanks to you sharing the part number! Thanks again! Took less than 5 minutes and I didn’t have to remove any panels! 😃
Hell yeah! Way to get creative with the scissors.
Just want to say thank you for this video. I used a flathead screwdriver to pop the piece out.
Cost me around $51 from the Hyundai dealership and took me no longer than 4-5 minutes.
Videos like this save people from spending major money at the mechanics.
Wow!! This worked flawlessly! Whole repair took less than a minute and the part was like $10. Amazing!! Thank you!!
Easier than I imagined. I have an Elantra GT 2013 just pried the piece off with a screwdriver and replaced the part. Less than 5 minutes. Ordered the part from Amazon using the info in the video.
This worked perfectly. I used a 1/4 inch drill and only had to do one side. The dealership wanted to charge me $400 to replace it. Thank you very much for your video
You are a true innovator! The easiest car repair we've done!!
Worked like a charm. Took me 3 to 5 minutes.
I just dug my screw driver into the side of the button panel. You can do it without damaging the metal, in my case the button was like that when i bought the car, so whoever had it first it was already busted and easy to pull out. New button fit and worked perfectly so happy.
the trunk release button pops off with a screwdriver. No need to drill it at all. Easy 2 minute fix to pop out old part and install new release button
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Literally a 30 second drill and the whole thing was done in under a minute, and I was taking my time!
not gonna lie that was one hell of a short cut. Thanks
I wish I could see you put the new latch button in, but I'll trust that it's fairly simple and that the drilling doesn't affect the snap in for the replacement
Awesome! I just stumbled across this. Just ordered my part today!
Awesome.! I just did that and it worked. Much easier than taking off the panels. Thanks man!
Sick! I wasn’t sure anyone would find this video cause it’s so specific. Cheers.
Great video, ordered the part will try to install next week!
Wow great video... just changed one and it took me less than 5 minutes because of you.. Thanks !
10/10. Worked really nicely! 10mins job!
your a life saver dude!
You don’t need the drill and anything. Just take the locking latch off. The 3 10mil bolts out and push from the inside out. It took me 2 minutes to to the whole job.
Dude! Amazing video I was wracking my brain how I need to disassemble the door to get in there.
Great tip, great high quality video, straight to the point.
I have the part and I will try your method today. Cheers!!!
Score! I’m psyched people are finding this video. Hope it went smoothly for ya.
@@lukeqstafford Actually before drilling I just used a flathead and was able to just pop it out. The weird thing is, I hooked up new part. It clicks and unlocks the hatch, I push it in all the way so it pops back in and it just stops working. Pop it out, it works, pop it back in it just stops. Super weird. Old one works fine popped in or out.
@@mikeydubs_tv that is def weird. The only thing I can think is that one of the wires is damaged and when it’s popped in a wire is touching bare metal and shorting?
@@mikeydubs_tv Mine is doing the exact same thing. Ever find a fix?
@@austinnph had my brothet in law whom is a mechanic look at it. He said the part is broken and I should return it
Behind the Bungee is a Hole, there you can go in with a little screwdriver and pull the hook to the side and remove the button...
I echo all the positive comments hereinbelow, thank you!
I just replaced this part. I used a flathead screw driver to take the old part out. I went from the side and it just came off easily.
Exactly!
Thank you ! :)
Hi Luke peux tu me dire quels sont les vis de la serrure de coffre stp ?
Thank you 🙏👍
Welcome 👍
lol dude no drill is required, I just had to replace mine, I popped the old one out with a flat head screw driver, plugged in the new one and popped it back in, whole thing took 1 minute and no drill
Would this work for Hyundai accent?
Hmm not sure. If the part looks identical I’d say go for it.
WTF! The switch pops out with a flathead screwdriver. It’s a 15second changeover. I know I did it 3 days ago then did it again just to time myself.
Even better! It’s been many months since I did this job, so I could be mistaken, but I feel like I MUST have tried to pry the handle out first before I resorted to drilling and it wasn’t happening for me, hence the drill. Thank you for taking the time to comment - hope it helps someone else!
Anyone have a link for this part by any chance?

Can you do this to Hyundai i30?
yes, its exactly the same.
