I think Daphne has every right to feel betrayed and lied to when she finds out Simon can have kids but doesn't want them. Those feelings are completely valid! Her reaction to that and what she decides to do about it however, yes, absolutely not F***ing okay in any realm
as a person who does not want kid, if i say it to someone I expect them to accept it, it does not matter if i cant or dont want. Both valid reasons and that is the point the other part can walk away... afterwords they are villan!
@@mrsmerily he was purposely hiding it from her. He KNEW she was ignorant to how sex works and he took advantage of that. It doesn't in any way justify what she did or make him deserve what she did, but her anger at being tricked is valid.
@mrsmerily I can't have kids and I don't want to have kids are perfectly vaild reasons to not have kids BUT they are completely different reasons. To say one when it's actually the other is just lying and anyone has the right to be mad at being lied to.
@@mrsmerily What they both did are versions of SA. Sure, they can and do move past them, but people who act like Simon didn’t do anything are honestly terrifying and fully in “This is why we choose the bear” territory.
@@nospoonfulofmayonnaiseforme In the show, Daphne learns that although Simon told her he CAN’T father children, he lied and was choosing not to do so, and was pulling out every time they had sex. In the book it’s even WORSE because she takes advantage of him while he is passed out drunk. I heard someone say that because women had no autonomy back then and they didn't really have a concept of consent she didn't realize how shity her actions were until later. But she was so mad that he'd been dishonest with her that she didn't even reflect that she had done worse to him. No excusing anything but regency morals aren't the same as current morals.
This was delightful. And you definitely put into words something that was at the back of my mind about the show vs. books: they really did switch Benedict and Colin's personalities around. Suddenly it makes so much more sense.
i hope (and believe it very possible) that a good amount of the post marriage storyline (or at least the best parts) will be included in Season 3 since Kate is living at the Bridgerton house and each season has had multiple side plots
It was crazy seeing ppl call what daphne does romantic, or not that bad. Its like we all took a nail to the head during lockdown. Not to mention a white woman doing this to a black man. Very sick and disappointing 🫣
I don't understand why people like book Anthony better than show Anthony. He may be overly confused in the show, but in the book he seems violent and genuinely terrible in a lot of scenes. I like the Edwina plot in the show. It makes him much more interesting to me. And I love Edwina's character and actor, she is great. Kate also seems like a more interesting and strong character in the show than in the book.
Exactly Book Anthony is very misogynistic (more than the show), also he is very agressive a lot of times and shows cavemen tendencies. While book kate is not really a badass like the show and just hated Anthony for him being Rake( which she just heard and reads) in comparison to the show when she heard him speak those words in ep1. And she is also a lot violent than I would have liked. Show Kate has had similar responsibilities like Anthony, so them understanding and loving each other just feels so good. Also the bee secene in the book made me cringe a lot.
Edwina in the show is far more oblivious and far more deeply betrayed than Edwina in the book. Going so far as to ruin a wedding is just... the sort of things that end family relationships. I've seen it happen, though obviously not in specifically this way. I can't imagine show-Kate and show-Edwina actually having any sort of relationship at all. At least in the books Edwina is smart enough to pick up on what's going on between them earlier and proceeds to have her own romantic ambitions separately. It's clear that she liked Anthony but she definitely was in love him in the book. In the show though? Damn.
@@TacticusPrime That is the thing. In the book, side characters are kind of afterthought and can pop up anytime someone needs advice or are just their to move the main couple's story. But this a show with 8 ep, they have to make character arcs for each and every characters, otherwise they'll feel one directional. Obviously I did not like the way they dragged the triangle and the whole wedding debacle but due to this, Edwina grows and Mary also realises that Kate is taking far too much than she should. It helps her to take a lil bit charge of their family and than after Kate's accident, she finally sees what's Kate been going through and the burden she took and then they have the talk. I'm not dissing on the book, the book is lovely on its own but I think the characters and the character arcs are better in the show.
@@dilsedesi1704 It's higher drama, sure. It just violated my suspension of disbelief. I just can't see any reconciliation or seeing from others points of view in the wake of "the wedding debacle" at all. Accident or no. And honestly, I don't take seriously the "we only have 8 episodes" canard. Obviously writers have to work within the structures and budgets that producers dictate. That doesn't mean you can't get creative. Have a bottle episode. Something.
Book Kate and Edwina were breath of a fresh air as they so sisterly even being step sisters. Then the show brought back age old plot of pitting sisters against each other for a man. It didn't go well especially for most of the book readers. Also I never understood why Edwina fall for Anthony in the show, I could understand of her desperation to get married in a good family to save her own family but love?? It was not convincing. S2 also robbed off so many Kate and Anthony moment. Kate's fear for thunder was not even touched , the library scene was criminally cut off to make space for unnecessary Fatherington drama !!! Having said that, Kanthony is still my fav couple in the book and also in the series.
i am in tears over the contrast between the kanthony bee scene in the book compared to what it is in the series. i almost wish they had included it in the tv show because i would have died laughing
It wouldn't have translated well in the show. Also it would have been the repeat of S1- forced marriage bcz they got cought in a compromising position. Both loving each other but in denial. I personally liked how they used the bee sting in the show to make both of them aware of their feelings.
The thing I hated in book2 is he just kisses her out of nowhere and the line(He is happy that she is afraid of her because she should, also the line- if I marry every women I ever kissed, I'll have 100 wives) and still says he'll come pay Edwina a visit. After the bee incident, he again kisses her and when she asks why, he says because I wanted to. Their wedding night when he says u will deny me my right. Also the whole bee scene and him sucking venom from a little above her bossom.🤮 All in all, I hate book Anthony, the story might be better in book( not for me), but the characters are so much better in show.
I think the reason Daphne is mad because he said he can't have kids not that he won't have kids. Additionally he has sex multiple times and pulls out on her belly and she didn't know that was birth control.

I do love the original book and wish they kept the same storyline, with the exception of Anthony trying to suck out the bee venom and being forced to marry. It would have been nicer to just see them deciding of their own volition to love each other and marry after all the suffering they’ve done and the love triangle was just so unnecessary. I do really like season 2 as well as some of the changes in details, but in terms of plot they really dropped the ball.
