Vennell talks and adopts the impression she is a separated influence and not the instigator of this cover up .
To be fair, the cover up was instigated before she took over. However, instead of engaging with the investigation team, and talking to victims to ascertain if there was any truth to the claims that Horizon and Fujitsu had not only botched the software, but were continually interfering with the audits from branches, she decided to continue the policy of burying truth, discrediting witnesses, discrediting their own audit team, and lying to Ministers. She was consistent, I'll give her credit for that.
Not ONCE throughout this hearing has she said that she considered what the effect that, even hypothetically, a dishonest denial of culpability would have on the lives of victims.
When you're a CEO, you're paid to take decisions and responsibility.

Paula Vennells had neither the skill set nor the courage to lead the post office, particularly during times of trouble. She threw those postmasters under the bus for expediency and to save face. Really disgusting, but not unusual in corporate leadership these days. They don’t seem to value integrity and honesty in corporate settings these days.

What i find unsettling is the fact the there was more than one person supposedly frauding the post office, more than 100 surely that would have been a red flag for the post office to make sense and say, "come on all these people can't be wrong " 1 2 or 3 yes, maybe. And that poor guy who committed suicide i find it deplorable that she's not even sorry for that, or she maybe now, but thats too late..

It seems the qualifications for being a senior manager in the Post Office are. Have no memory, no qualifications for the job, no experience of similar work, no common sense, no morals.

Don't forget that this is an inquiry hearing and not a trial. The barrister has already said that there matters he can't question her or the others on because of parliamentary privilege, in other words he's got a hand tied behind his back. He's being extremely cautious and polite, because he has no other option. What is absolutely clear is the disdain that these individuals have for the postmasters. They deliberately brushed under the carpet the obvious operating problems with Horizon, they did everything they could to stifle any possible adverse legal procedures and were perfectly willing to incriminate the innocent. The 'controllers' they sent out to threaten the postmasters were totally incompetent, but that was part of the plan. Some of these 'executives' have even tried brazenly posturing before this KC, which gives some idea of how disgusting they are. Meanwhile Vennels still has a top job, but she belongs to the management class who think they're untouchable. Their 'legal PR team' must be doing overtime and getting handsomely paid for it. Ordinary people's lives and those of their families were ruined, some were driven to suicide, some were wrongfully imprisoned, but after all they were only ordinary people, weren't they ?
That was wrong really. It should be a trial. Incompetency on the police and justice systems part. All part of the cover up. And the government. None of which we the British public can trust.

I think there is enough written evidence to bring a conspiracy charge against them, they knew full well those postmasters were innocent but instead of doing the right thing and helping them get those convictions quashed they covered everything up because to get them prosecuted in the first place they withheld evidence and charged and prosecuted innocent people on their lies, and that is what they were trying to mask from the media.
Jail, return bonuses and cancellation of pension and all other perks. This woman is a disgrace. Paula - you were either incompetent and utterly out of your depth or a truly dreadful person. This is not leadership, rather cringeworthy arrogance.
Beware other monopoly / state institution bosses - with great pay now comes great personal accountability. She is fully aware that nowadays, "Normal Legal Routes" mean that they (POL) would never be held to account for their actions. Never ever.
No Sub-Postmasters would ever manage to get the disclosures necessary to overturn malicious prosecutions and get their wrongful prosecutions addressed. That is the whole point of the protections of "Legal Privilege" afforded to POL.
Look how long, and how difficult it has been to get this matter this far, with thousands of wrongful prosecutions and (criminal) extortions of monies from the Sub-Postmasters.

It's disgraceful, before each post office representative answers the questions they look at the laptop screen in front of them and the Post Office Barrister who is listening in provides them with the answer they should give.
