    That's where a fat bike comes in handy for beach riding. I've ridden Moreton and Stradbroke islands. Lots of fun.

    Cool vid, looked fun (for the most part 😂)
    Keen for the next coastal trip 👍
    Side note, seals often rest in that position. They look half dead or injured but they are fine

      Yeah it was pretty good, even the huge hills are just a faded memory now. They were worth it for the view! Where do you think the next coast trip should be?
      That seal was so bizarre, I filmed it for so long trying to capture movement. I’ve seen them rest up on the rocks but not like that, glad it’s common 😂

      Thanks mate, I had recently seen an aerial photo of camels in the desert. The shot was straight down and the camels in the pic were actually just their shadows. It looked really cool. When I was coming down to land I noticed our shadows and thought, I have to capture this. Glad I did because I loved it too.

      So happy we pushed on for the sunset. It was so nice up there.
      As for new vid's, I've been trying really hard to get out on a trip but life has just been busy. One of those busy life moments was a holiday to Tassie. I didn't plan to make a video but i captured some nice shots, I'm currently trying to edit that, Its proving very difficult. I think it will just end up being a family vid type of thing. Still great memories for us but probably boring for everyone else. We'll just have to see what i can come up with. I'm currently over in Perth for work and I've told My boss, My wife, I've told everyone, as soon as i get back i'm going on an adventure. I need it
      🤣
      Cheers!

    I love riding around the south coast, theres hundreds of kms of awesome firetrails up around behind ulladulla etc. You can just explore forever. The trick is to try and stay away from the princess but unfortunately you do need to cross it now and then if you want to get near the ocean. Mt Kingiman, woodburn, Flat rock state forest, Clyde state forest, it just goes on and on and on. XC MTB best choice of bike. Some of my all time favourite rides are around there. A great ride is from Tianjara falls down to washerwomens bay.

    That's my ancestral country there, a great grandfather surveyed the district in the 1880's, one of the features visible north of Pidgeonhouse is named after him. Beautiful country. Liked the vid, I did a few tours back in the 70's and 80's enjoyable but the total exhaustion of a long climb / walk leaning on a loaded bike was a bit much. Lovin the last words "It's good to be off that bike".

    Another excellent AdVANture. Thank you. I remember climbing Pidgeon House with my son, Steven, on my back when he was one. He turns 45 this in 2 days time. He is my best riding mate, we cover a lot of miles together. I think perhaps we need to get down to Milton and do a route similar to yours. I like your retro-'90s bike setup. I also love how cheery you remain, even when you're feeling absolutely stuffed. Carrying that little boat all the way probably didn't help.

      Cheers mate, I've been away for a few days, and it looks like this comment was 2 days ago, if so, that might mean it's your son's birthday. If so happy birthday 🎂
      Yeah, it was definitely a fun ride around the loop we did. probably a little hot on the day out to pigeon house but that river stop was awesome.
      The way I like to think out on these adventures is, if something goes wrong, it will just mean the video will be more exciting. I think it can be good motivation to think of the positives of anything that can happen. I've just got back from a ride where we got caught in a storm and I loved it for the footage. So good.

      Probably a little different now. I was last up there in 2016 and since then the trail at the bottom has changed, it’s now longer but not as steep. And the top now has new ladders and the platform up top. I did like the sketchy old ladders but it’s cool to have that platform at the top. Awesome views.

A friend of mine who no longer lives in Sydney always says the best thing about Sydney are the roads out of here. I do love to hit the road and see new places but I often overlook some of the amazing landscapes right at out doorstep. not enough weekends to do everything. Hopefully I can keep making you a little homesick 😜 Cheers!

      Just remembered i never replied to this. Sunset at pigeon house was awesome. We camped in the car part and there was so many people going up early for a sunrise, but nobody at all up there for sunset. So happy we got there in time. As for Bikepacking through the Budawangs, The reason i got into bikepacking was to do the Attack of the buns route. The Endrick River Firetrail is part of this. I'm still yet to do it but super keen. Its on the list. Cheers.

    Great route and vlog as always! Beach riding and camping is the absolute best there is in my opinion! I even go into the waves a little sometimes, and watching them shimmering and rushing under my feet actually feels like flying to me. Anyone who avoids the beach is missing something really special! I ridiculously used to do it on 26x2 but now I use 27.5x3 but my dream bike is a 5" fat bike.

    • @advanturest
      @advanturest  Рік тому +1

      That rear tyre I had on is a 650x47B, I just googled it and it's 1.85" wide 😂 I was actually surprised I could ride on it, I was sure I'd be pushing the bike the whole way. I obviously lost the rear end a few times so it wasn't ideal. I'd love a fat bike, The sand capabilities would be cool but I'd also love to try riding in snow. That would be awesome.
      Thanks for watching, can't wait to do another coastal trip and actually camp on the sand.

It was awesome for me to put it together as well, my family has been travelling to Bungalow Park at Burrill Lake every year for about 35 years now. 2 weeks in the Christmas School holidays. I know the area pretty well but to do it all by bike was really cool. I didn’t remember how steep the hills were up to the Pigeon House carpark though. • @advanturest
      @advanturest  9 місяців тому +1

      I don’t 😂 you would be surprised how good warm beer tastes after a big day riding. Saying that I like to drink craft beers when on bikepacking trips because the fruity flavours are better when warm compared to something like, let’s say a VB. A warm VB would be horrible.
      If you have space where things can get wet, I’ve seen people freeze their drinking water and store it next to beer. It keeps the beer cold on day 1 and then you can drink the water later.

I actually put a light film grain over the whole thing as an experiment as it can be so sharp sometimes and I've done that to try soften the image. I think I like it and it's the first time I've tried it. I used the vintage glass in the shots around the fire. I'd love to shoot a whole video with some old manual focus glass but I also take photos and I kind of need the quick autofocus when capturing action shots. As for the polaroid's, I thought it could be cool to add his photos but Josh lives an hour from me and I didn't feel like driving all the way there to pick them up. I did try and find a polaroid template to try and photoshop some of my photos to look like polaroid's but when an edit gets this long my computer starts to struggle and I get over the small details. I just had to upload it and move on. I think I'll still try and find something like that for future videos though. And lastly, I've never been a warm beer drinker but you would be surprised how good the strong fruity craft beer tastes warm after riding all day. At home I have a beer fridge and they are icy cold 😂😂

    Tell us more about that mtb drop bar... bar.

      @advanturest  Рік тому +2

      That's a copy of the Surly Corner Bar, Its a cheap carbon fiber copy of Ali Express. (hasn't broken yet) I'm still experimenting with positions and once I get it right I'll add some bar tape and theoretically it should feel like a drop bar bike with mtb shifters and levers etc. I've actually ridden a mates bike that has them setup better and they feel pretty good. I need to get mine higher but my steerer tube is too short. I'm currently looking at getting an angled stem to bring up the height of the bars. I've been filming a bit of this process so once its done I'll share a video of it and my thoughts.

      @@advanturest hi Mate, I am curious about the bar and stem setup too. I have an old ‘94 GT Timberline steel frame MTB, all original parts/setup. I have been thinking of the best bar setup, and the Surly corner bar is one of the bars that I had looked at. How’s it go with the new stem? How’s the swap from old original bars to new? Do you have a quill stem adapter? What size wheels are on the Raleigh?
      Also, that was a crazy pile of bikes that fella had there! Mental stuff! Nice fun easy ride you boys had. Looked like such a nice ride. Good company, great riding, awesome stuff

      @@bigbadstretch13yrago Hey mate, A few questions to answer here and it makes me think I should finish another video I started. Last year I filmed a whole heap about this bike, why I got it, what I'm running on it, etc. I ended up getting Covid the weekend I went away with it to finish off the video and was struggling too much to film anything and never got back to it. In that video I talk about the forks, This bike had suspension forks with a quill style stem. In the photos it looked like the head tube was bigger than my other old bikes so I bought it. sure enough the suspension fork had the quill stem but it had a 1 1/8 diameter steerer tube. I put a different pair of forks on it and can now use any standard stem. No quill adaptor needed. Saying that, on my Mongoose I run a quill adaptor with no problems at all if that's what you need to do.
      I'm currently running this bike with the new taller stem and it feels much better. I'm actually going on a trip this weekend on it so I'll talk about it in my next video. Only issue I'm having is I haven't put any bar tape on yet so my hands can get a little saw after a while. My fault though, I keep spending money on camera gear so the bar tape keeps getting pushed down the list.
      As for the wheels, I've got 27.5 on it. Same wheels and forks from this video. This frame is too big for me so I got a similar smaller frame. ua-cam.com/video/iH8qubzEsUg/v-deo.html

    Do by chance have a gpx for this route? I’m heading back down under for a visit (living in Colorado these days) and trying to work out a possible coastal bikepacking route from Sydney to Melbourne…🤷‍♀️

      I do but I’m not at home at the moment. I actually started to add this to ridewithgps but got sidetracked and never went back. I’ll try finish it when I’m home, in the meantime here is the Strava links.
      Just note, some beach walking involved, could be a slow trip on these type of trails. Good fun but slow going.
      Cheers

      I think it's about time i made an account with RidewithGPS or one of these apps.
      This is where we rode, Day 3 I accidently stopped my GPS so there is a weird straight line.

    Enjoy all your content. Did you know it is illegal to ride NSW footpaths? Not knocking you though. I also ride footpaths wherever I deem necessary. I think the law should be changed and hope you'll throw in your two cents worth
