Hi Tim, my son and I binged all weekend on your videos. You've inspired us to get off the couch and load our bikes on the ute and head off for an adventure. Love your videos. Cheers!
Awesome mate, nothing beats a good bike adventure. I’m getting a bit antsy myself to get out on another bikepacking trip. I’m currently overseas and did an awesome day trip yesterday up into the mountains near Whistler. Found an awesome looking ranger hut. It’s got me very keen to head out on another trip when I’m back in Aus. Thanks for watching and enjoy the ride. Cheers Tim 👍
Cheers mate. Appreciated. This trip has got me thinking about a Scotland trip. Maybe next year. My wife Sarah has some family history in Scotland and she is keen to visit. If it happens I’m taking my bike 😁 Thanks for watching 👍

Thanks mate, super fun being out there playing with my camera in those conditions. I’m pretty happy how it turned out. Well worth all the stopping to set up shots. It’s a slow process 😂
@@advanturest I’ve done plenty trips with friends and probably more by myself. Both very different experiences. Definitely a lot less drinking when I ride solo 😅
First video of yours I've seen via The Alton Edit, good stuff! I can see why Mattsy was a fan of your photography, you should honestly consider selling prints if you don't already, that's art.
Thanks for coming to check out my videos. For me photography has always been a hobby so I’ve never tried selling anything. I’m also not much of a businessman and I always have doubt. In 2025 I’m taking a year off work to travel Australia with my wife Sarah. I do have a goal of setting up a website and to try spend the year getting some nice images and selling them. After all I’ll be taking the photos either way so if I can do something with them that would be great. I’ve done nothing though as I really don’t know where to start. Hopefully I can find the time to get it underway the 2nd half of this year. Work always seems to get in the way but I need to make it happen. And thanks again, It’s little comments like this that get me excited about it all. I need these little pushes. Cheers
O'Keefe's is one of my favourites - glad you got out there, cool to see immortalised in a video like this! I'd love to do a trip through the entire Jugungal sometime (starting from Round Mt and going right through to Guthega PS) such magic views up there with the rolling scrub and Jugungal summit!
Cheers Daniel, I think we need to chat 😂 Were you thinking of Hiking or riding? You may be just the man to help Shuttle to make something like this happen. I was thinking of doing the same but maybe starting at Denison campground or somewhere near Eucumbene Dam to try minimise the huge shuttle around. I need to look more into it. I wasn’t expecting O’Keefes to be so nice. I’m not sure why but I’m glad I visited. I’m hoping to get back for a hike with Sarah before winter. She needs to visit one of these huts.
I'm just loving this moody atmosphere too. There's a pro filmmaker Levi Allen who has a video extolling the virtues of filming with an umbrella strapped to his tripod. I thought it was a great idea. It would amplify the rain tapping sound while keeping the audio clean too. I think he also keeps a big moisture absorber on his lens with an elastic. This was really beautiful. There's no way you can have too much weight or be too slow, when the objective is to make a good video and enjoy yourself! Cheers.
Yeah I follow him and his work. I love his stuff. I actually bought this big Agnes tent because of the video he made where he camped on a summit and it got super windy. I loved the colour of the tent and the fact that it wasn’t destroyed in the wind. I may have also purchased the little candle lantern he uses haha. I actually made a little umbrella setup for my camera which I took on this trip. Turns out it was too much work for bikepacking. Every shot I have to take my mic off, pack my camera away, strap my tripod to the bike, all just to be able to ride. Adding more steps to that process just seemed crazy. It’s time consuming enough as it is. I think hiking is a different story as you can leave it all setup and just pick up the tripod and walk with it. I would like to do that one day. I definitely love the wet moody look to videos. Cheers for watching!
Add them to your list 😁 I really liked O’keefes, I wasn’t that excited about that one but it was really nice. The Nordic ski club guys ski out there all the way from Guthega. It would be a good mission.
Cheers mate! I’m not sure anyone would have come with me even if I told them about the trip. The forecast even had snow above 1500m but unfortunately I missed it. It snowed on the Friday, there were tiny patches around but nothing too exciting. I thought it would be cool to have to shelter in a hut. Still super happy I got the fog though. I think I want to risk the weather more often! Shooting in bright sunny days isn’t ideal 😂 Thanks for watching! 👍

So pretty out there in the fog! Cheers 🍺

Thanks Jon, I stopped a few times 😂 It certainly is a beautiful spot! Looking forward to one day camping up on that hill. Cheers! P.S how cool is the fog 😁
Thanks For Sharing! what a place! and great photos Love the old glass too! Hope the other lens is okay. i had a lens crap out from riding, the autofocus motor inside got shaken about from the bumpy roads.
Thanks for watching! I recently got the old glass as I thought it would be great for some low light shots, I love shooting at blue hour, due to the bad weather it didn’t get used but obviously came in handy. I just got back from another bikepacking trip and I used it on it, the footage looks unreal so I’m glad I got it. As for the big lens, turns out it wasn’t water related. The power diaphragm which controls the aperture broke, explains some of my frustration on the day when it seemed to be working. It’s now been fixed and worked good over the last weekends trip. The repair shop said this was a common issue, I’ve been too scared to have it bouncing around on the bike, that’s why it’s always in a pack on my body. I’m not sure if taking it on these rides contributed to the damage but at the end of the day I own it to use it. If it gets broken then so be it! Cheers!
Hi Mate, great video, looking forward to getting back up to Jagungal in the near future. Keep the great videos coming please. We have an amazing country.
Cheers mate, it’s very nice up there. More hills than long plain but definitely worth a visit. The area that was burnt during the 2020 fires isn’t as pretty. Something to keep in mind. Stunning area out there. I just got back from a trip on the south coast was pretty fun. It will probably take me a few weeks to make something though. Cheers!
A $400 repair job but we’re back in action. It was the power diaphragm whatever that does. I think it controls the aperture. I had no issues during a ride over the weekend so I’m glad it’s sorted. I would have preferred to spend the money on something else though 😂 Cheers 👍
I’m this trip, way too heavy 😂 I had all sorts of video ideas that I didn’t go ahead with on this trip. Multiple cameras, I had a book I wanted some shots of me reading. Anyway you get the idea. It was over 20kg 😂 The backpack is generally really comfy but the problem is it tempts me to fill it. My most recent 2 trips I’ve done with a hip pack. Much more sensible idea as it forces me to leave the crap at home. I always have videos in mind and get carried away taking to much stuff that I don’t have time to use. Too many beers I don’t need etc. from now on I’ll be sticking with the hip pack for my camera. Actually, one last thing. That backpack has a 3L hydration bladder which was handy but realistically most places I ride have water sources and I don’t need to carry it. It was always a bit of a comfort thing for me knowing I had plenty of drinking water. Probably a longer answer than you were after. Cheers

I love fog too. When I was 9 and walking to school, I used to have this fantasy that the school couldn't be found in the fog. Come to think of it, I'm 50 and I still have that fantasy when heading to work in the fog... Hey Tim, what GPS do you use on the bike? Getting set up for my own bikepacking adventures and keen to know a user friendly and not overly expensive GPS for plotting routes.
Haha, I'd love it if my work site just went missing. Work is a punish! So the GPS I use is a Garmin Touch 25. It does everything I need it to do but I probably can't recommend it. I'll explain. I've been using this style of GPS for close to 15 years now and I have my way pretty dialed. When I've loaned it to friends the results are not so good. The screen is tiny, the touch screen is garbage compared to a phone. when you zoom out you loose map detail. It can be a little clunky. I always plan my route from home (on the computer) and upload it to the GPS. This puts a line on my maps I can just follow. No problems there. If I need to change plans that's when the issues start. With the small screen and lack of map detail when zoomed out it can be hard to work out where to go. These days there are a few good apps for your phone, (these weren't around when I started using GPS) I see a lot of people using them with great success. It might be worth looking at that option. Some good apps are GAIA or AllTrails. There is probably more. I also havn't looked at any of the latest GPS's on the market so they may have improved. Something to consider as well, most GPS come with maps with little detail, you generally have to buy the good topographical maps. The maps i use are very old but not much has changed out in the bush so that doesn't worry me. I've found plotting tracks on Garmin basecamp and these apps is very similar. With the apps you can log in on your computer for all the planning. I may have confused you a little more but I personally would try one of the apps first if I didn't have a GPS and just see how it goes. you will need a powerbank though so you can charge the phone as it will use a lot more juice. Maybe try a free trial on one of the apps? Cheers, Tim
@@advanturest All good mate, thanks for the comprehensive reply! My limit of technology seems to top out at 1:25000 scale topo maps, but will look into phone apps. Cheers mate, and keep up the awesome adventures!
@@sirbarryvee-eight6485 so the scale is not the issue, the maps I use in my GPS are vector maps so it doesn’t matter how far you zoom in the map is always sharp. The issue is when you zoom out, the GPS just turns down the detail of the map. For example, zoomed in I can see all the fire roads, walking tracks etc, if I zoom out they disappear and all I can see is more major roads. They don’t get blurry or hard to read, they actually disappear. To work out a new route when out in the field I need to be zoomed in to actually see the tracks but then I have to keep scrolling across the screen and often I will be scrolling in the wrong direction. It’s really hard to explain but I’d hate to recommend a GPS and then the user hates it. It’s happened before. That’s why I suggest trying a phone app. Saying that if you have a route planned ahead and you just need it to follow the line they are great. Good luck. Apologies if I’ve just confused you some more. If you live in Sydney I’d be happy to show you 😂
@@advanturest Lol, sorry Tim, I meant the limit of my ability to grasp technology is limited to the old paper topographic maps - even knowing that a GPS exists is a stretch for me! Again, all good, thanks for the info - I appreciate it. I'm lower Blue Mountains and most of my time is spent rolling around up here but looking to venturing further afield once I get my gear sorted. I did the Blackheath to Mittagong a bit over 20 years ago, looking forward to getting back into it.
All good mate, I’ll respond here. I’m hearing you about the 35degree heat. Over the weekend I just did another trip along the south coast and temps were supposed to get to 26 max. It felt a lot hotter than that and I was sweating it up. Absolutely drenched. I’d hate to do it in 35degree heat. The fog temp was absolutely perfect. I really enjoyed that trip and I definitely think you should pass through the area at some point. I’m really enjoying these solo trips. There is something special about them.
Cheers,
Tim
Sorry mate accident, sent my comment to your reply to fat chance Doh!
Cheers for watching and sorry to hear about your partner.
Much love.
Tim
