    Glad to know my assumptions were (mostly) right, I used to play soccer professionally but had to retire early, want to still compete and gaming has always been a passion of mine so I'm moving towards being able to play in pro valorant. The only thing I didn't know was the streaming requirement I thought they did it just cause it was what they felt like doing.

    • @ChaseCarrington
      @ChaseCarrington 4 місяці тому +9

      Not every org or game has streaming requirements. There are some signed pros in apex that haven’t streamed in years. It really depends on the org. Some want more winning and don’t care about the content which sounds misguided imo.

      @@ChaS4m I’m conflicted on whether that’s a good or a bad thing. On one hand streaming gameplay is an easy way to brand build and make extra money for you and your org but on the other hand just because you’re a good player doesn’t make you a good content creator. Especially in games like Val where practice is rarely streamed I wonder if the non streaming bros play much outside of practice and warmup. Now in apex we stream scrims and it’s a big source of easy content while practicing but I’m not sure if Val has something like that.

    • @ChaS4m
      @ChaS4m 4 місяці тому

      @@ChaseCarrington AFAIK no one streams their scrims and practices as that's where they have set practices and strategies built specifically to counter teams and their strategies and streaming it would give their plans and strategies away. With the example I gave with Giants X they're a very Anti-Strat heavy team who have great protocols and set plays to counter specific strategies and players on enemy teams so I would assume they practice way more than do content

    I was a pro gamer from April 2020 to December 2020 and it was awful. I did that because I was a pro athlete and since I wasn't able to compete during that time i started gaming. I had the mentality of an athlete so I was able to get good fast, but at the cost of staying in front of the PC up to 16 hours a day. I was eating junk food, reviewing pro players games and improving my mechanical skills and all of that led up to sleeping problems and I went up to 96 kg where mg starting weight was 86. 10kg in 8 months! I was not seeing my friends anymore and i started to become more and more obsessed to be good (this happened even in months where the quarantine wasn't applied. Then I abandon gaming with "only" 25k earned in 8 months (which is not much compared to the time and effort dedicated to this game)

BUT you have to be nearly perfect, nearly indestructible in your early days to get attraction. Every single mistake, every single shortcoming means death to our dreams. That too would be the story of my journey. Placed top 3 in first national tournament, then 3 again and finally won a champion trophy. Then after that, some solid placings but never at the top again, then just one summer of awful games. I mean, we got dumpstered in every game. The management parted ways with us. I was in ur same position and I have to be real - you need to save up money for better equipment. You don’t need a 360hz monitor or 800 fps, but you do need at least 144hz and a pc that can get that fps. If you can get 240hz-240fps, the better. It doesn’t matter how good you are, if you’re getting 40 fps and are on shit equipment it is not going to happen. If you really want to make it work, work hard, save up, build yourself a good setup.

    It's always infuriating seeing people dismiss these professions as "easy jobs." Sure, it would be cool to be a pro gamer over a regular 9-5 office job, but the requirements to live that kind of life can be brutal. It's not as simple as playing a game for 8 hours a day. Staying at the top along with doing media projects, streaming, traveling, etc. can take a toll on you both physically and mentally. And forget about having a partner and kids if you play an open circuit game like CS. You'd basically have to live a nomadic lifestyle with little to no stability. You'd really have to LOVE the job to tolerate all of that.

    • @FLOWSHIZZLE
      @FLOWSHIZZLE  3 місяці тому

      A point many people miss! In CS people would be out for tournaments and bootcamps more than actually at home which must be awful if you have a significant other or any life at home. And if you're not making millions like in major sports where you could theoretically retire after a few years, then it's much harder to justify

    I really like and support the points made in this video, although I feel like the title could pass for a click bait. While the video itself does an exceptional job idenifying some of the negative aspects of esports, it feels like many points are also applicable to other major sports leagues and how they operate, this video is like telling a person passionate about baseball how much time and effort it takes to make it to the MLB, while sprinkling in outside aspects like fan hate, all while advocating for how it's not worth pursuing, but the truth is, if a person is passionate enough about the form of competition at hand, they should also be ready to withstand the adversities stated in this video. This applies to going pro in ANYTHING is what I picked up most from this video and I'm glad you made it regardless.

    • @FLOWSHIZZLE
      @FLOWSHIZZLE  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes! I made it specifically towards esports because that's something that I personally hold close to my heart, but it definitely applies to going pro in anything! It's also a point to disprove the idea that pro gaming is "easy" compared to regular sports and to have them be more easily seen on similar levels (although not exactly the same)

    i think this shows why i believe fighting games, and most partially to me, melee, is one of if not the best esport to have an attempt to pursue. almost all tournaments are in person, you get to grow socially at these events and meet people you never would have. there is no team to fall back on, so your own results speak for themselves, a double edged sword. you will never get replaced, as you are still able to enter any tournament on your own accord and prove yourself without having to rely on a team to enter and play. also, fighting game players, especially melee players, have had some of the most longevity in esport history. the goat, mang0 has been signed to cloud9 since 2014, 10 years now. leffen to tsm since 2015, and hungrybox to team liquid since 2015-16 if i remember correctly. the personalities of fighting game players come out more than in any other esport as well, making pros have lasting fanbases and history that can never be taken away. it is the player, not the team on display when you are watching a fighting game. outside of the sport, fighting games, again especially smash, are i believe the most palatable for wide audiences. games are short, and there is a clear premise to the games. fighting games often have iconic characters, and the fighting genre has been one of if not the longest lasting esport in history, dating back to the 80s!! i believe that of any esport, fighting games have what it takes not just to be the best to attempt to get into as a pro, but also have the widest appeal of any esport out there. there is nothing like the fighting game community.

    • @A432Hz
      @A432Hz 3 місяці тому +2

      I’m inclined to disagree with you regarding melee as a career because it is very low paying. If you thought valve was neglecting the CS scene, Nintendo was worse because they actively sabotaged the melee scene to the extent that Nintendo neglecting the melee scene was the best case scenario. And we can see the effects. Compared to CS, melee is way more grassroots, so the funding is way smaller. Top 10 hbox who has some of the highest melee earnings if not the highest, hasn’t broken $1m from payouts. Meanwhile, the top players in CS have hit $1m+. Unless you can reach top 16 in any supermajor, you literally won’t make money playing melee as a career, and anything below is just costing money to be able to join the bracket. The social aspect of fighting games I do agree with you wholeheartedly.

    I earned a living gaming for 3 years. Honestly more money that id make with a pretty good job. But holy shit it is dogshit for you. I have regret investing so much of my life to play games. Yes i earned alot of money, but I now lack alot of knowledge about the world and also don’t have the amount of friends i would have had if i invested more time in to them. I feel very behind in alot of things that matter in the real world and it sucks. Never go pro, not worth. All pro players mostly share my take. Imagine you gotta practice like crazy, you gotta have talent and even then theres a small chance of you succeeding. And if you succeed 90% chance you will regret it later on. Not worth, don’t do it.

    If you're under silver when you first touch the game, it's absolutely delusional to think you even have a chance of making it to the pro scene. You are spending two times of effort to even be on someone else starting line. And even if your are talented, you might think time is the only factor, as long as you wait enough for your opportunities then you can shine. However, luck is everything, and it applies to every industry. But if you only know how to play game, it's like going into the casino and all-in your chips into one single number, except this time it's your life for the next 30 years.

    using shroud as an example is bad. he fell off in csgo when pubg came out and it was obviously he wasnt focus'd on csgo at all. he didnt care and people could see it and his stats were below what he normally was at (which was already pretty shit icl) so ofc people wanted him gone. and it was a blessing that he left! after shroud leaving c9 became the first NA team to win a major. shroud was literally holding them back

    Pro is so toxic, especially fans just toxic, and it’s internet culture. The crazy thing is that, anyone can game, it doesn’t take much skill “skill” you don’t have a life.

      People just use adderal and other adhd medications, the reason is for lower reaction time, you think and talk waaay faster, and the proof is normally blatant. They drug test now, and the only way to bypass certain tests is proof of diagnosis
