    Changing Louis into a black man was such a good choice. It adds so much to the character and the relationships and make for a much interesting story. And Jacob Anderson is just phenomenal in that role. That confession scene is just insane acting.

    i saw once an interview of sam reid (the guy who plays lestat) where he explained that him doing ALL THAT in the church scene, right in front of louis it's really meaningful to lestat because he's showing his true nature to this man hes so entranced with and louis just accepts it, willingly takes lestat even after such an awful display .. kinda crazy tbh real romance

    32:50 tbf killing the priests is a moment of *liberation* in the show because it represents Lestat destroying what the church represents for Louis (not saying it will fully free Louis of that Catholic guilt and all the ways it harms him). It’s definitely a gory scene and I understand feeling bad for the priests as individuals, but *thematically* at least within the narrative they deserve that death Lestat brings (Miss Lily did NOT though! I wish she was alive)

    37:56 - Anne Rice did not originally write Louis as a black character, that's true; but she did once write a different/unrelated Historical Fiction novel about black and mixed-race characters in New Orleans, and she was involved in the creation of the tv series as an executive producer right up until her passing pretty much right when filming was beginning to start(so most the writing and casting and such was likely already done). I suspect she was most likely more okay with many of the alterations to the characters and the story in this tv series than some people seem to believe. She once said in a Q&A livestream on her FB page[ shortly before the tv series officially entered into production] that the Interview movie had taught her that any man with a beautiful face could portray Louis(as well as that they would almost definitely not be using any actual child actors/actresses for any new/future tv series adaptation), so the only character that she was personally really invested in absolutely needing to physically match the character descriptions from the books was Lestat, just as long as the essence of the other characters from the books were there. 😊💖 In the books, Louis was a plantation owner with slaves in the late 1700s, while the interview itself was set as occurring during the[ at the time of the first book's publication] then-contemporary 1970s; in the tv series, he's a pimp in the early 1900s whose forefathers formerly had a sugar plantation, and the interview happens during the now-contempary 2020s(both Louis!character versions benefit in morally suspect ways from profiteering off the labors of their fellow humans, and then become vampires who wrestle with their own humanity and/or possible lacking of humanity, although in the interest of avoiding spoilers that is oversimplifying it quite a bit)-I think the essence of the character is, indeed, still there.🙂

    21:30 Louie has the urges of a homosexual man, just years and years of repression needed him for Lily to be there. Lestat being able to get into people's heads (how he talks to people mentally) knew that, hence Lily being a pawn here ❤❤

    25:17 yes! There were body doubles for the dance scene on set that day but the actors were able to learn the dance well enough that they didn't need to use the body doubles... They also learned the dance over zoom so that makes it even more amazing that they were able to dance it well enough! It's probably why they had so many wide shots in that scene because you very often need to have really close-up shots when an actor doesn't actually know how to do the skill the character is portraying.

  • @AnxietyRat

    9:47 you are absolutely right! Jumping a broom during a wedding is really popular in the south of the US... Specifically within the black community, from what people have told me because it was an old slavery marriage tradition... So essentially in this scene it seems like Paul is equating this old slavery tradition during marriage ...to like witchcraft and magic and voodoo, basically. He's being ignorant and judgmental towards the practice. And as others have mentioned in this comment section there is kind of like a spin-off book series about the Mayfair house and it IS about witches so there absolutely is some truth to the rumors that are circulating within the community that witches live in the Mayfair house

      There's a Mayfair Witches tv series, too-and some Mayfair Witches / Vampire Chronicles crossover books, so who knows the tv series may eventually crossover too at some points or another as well.😊

    • @AnxietyRat
      @AnxietyRat 8 днів тому +1

      @@jaginaiaelectrizs6341 yeah, I specifically just mentioned the book series and not the show because I did NOT like the show. 🤷‍♀️ And I don't expect people who watch Interview with the Vampire to immediately want to watch the Mayfair Witches show... It is NOT on the same level of quality, in my opinion. But yeah, there potentially might be a crossover in the future... But I do know that Rolin as a showrunner does have some exclusivity rights to the characters that they are adapting in IWTV... So the main characters probably will not show up in a crossover... But maybe a side character that doesn't show up a huge amount will show up on both shows.... I do understand in the book series Lestat does make an appearance but I'm not sure if legally they will be able to do that due to how the contracts work between the two shows... Even though they are hosted on the same network there are exclusivity contracts in effect... There most likely will not be any crossovers in Talamasca either.. definitely not in the first season, anyway.... If they do decide to do that in the future there will probably HAVE to be contract renegotiations. Because as of right now, as far as I understand, Lestat would NOT be able to make a crossover appearance even if it is a really short one like it is in the Mayfair books.
      So yeah the level of crossover that potentially COULD happen in the future ...isn't really reason enough to make someone watch a show that really isn't as good as IWTV. Like the crossover will last a couple of minutes, if that, ya know? I don't think that's worth watching seasons and seasons of a show to reach THAT tiny crossover... But that's just my opinion.

    • @jaginaiaelectrizs6341
      @jaginaiaelectrizs6341 8 днів тому

      @@AnxietyRat I haven't read the Mayfair books, myself, so I didn't personally have any trouble enjoying the Mayfair tv series-but I do agree that the production and story quality or such is unfortunately not quite as good with the Mayfair tv series as for the IWTV tv series(although I really appreciate the main three actress and actors and their performances), and I agree that there's no expectation for people who like Interview to always want to just immediately jump over into Mayfair too(I mean, that would be hypocritical of me to expect, since I didn't even do that myself with the books), but I just thought it was fair to make people aware of it in general so they could make their own decisions about that for themselves if they wanted to or not. Personally, I would say that the Mayfair tv series is good(although certainly much less well-received as an adaptation specifically), but the Interview tv series is absolutely top-tier phenomenal and arguably potentially even one of the greatest tv series of all-time to this date AS WELL AS being an exceptional adaptation + update of the original book's story, so it's almost not really even fair to compare them at all. But there are, like, three whole entire novels that crossover Mayfair Witches with the Vampire Chronicles; so they could potentially do 3 to 6 whole crossover tv series seasons, hypothetically....I'm not sure I'd call that only a brief appearance? But, yeah, that's quite a ways off yet-only if the tv series makes it like all the way past book 6 or so. I wasn't trying to say that anyone should definitely watch the Mayfair tv series just for that potentiality alone, I was just mentioning that the possibility is somewhat there even though as of yet it remains to be seen whether or not that will ever actually be developed upon in the tv series or not.

    • @AnxietyRat

      @@jaginaiaelectrizs6341 if I recall correctly Lestat, exclusively, makes a very very brief appearance... I haven't read all of the Mayfair books... But that is what those who HAVE fully read the series have told me... so I don't know exactly which other characters make crossover appearances tbh... But yeah I do know that Lestats' is pretty brief.

    • @jaginaiaelectrizs6341
      @jaginaiaelectrizs6341 8 днів тому

      @@AnxietyRat I don't know about in the original Mayfair trilogy itself.
      I just know there are three entire crossover novels separate from the original Mayfair trilogy, so IF you count the crossover books then there are 6 Mayfair books (the original trilogy + 3 crossovers, but those 3 crossovers are typically considered a direct part of the Vampire Chronicles book series, while the Mayfair trilogy is more distinctly separate and its own thing although at least two pretty significant characters from the Mayfair trilogy do make appearances in at very least the 2nd and 3rd crossover novels; Lestat appears to some varying extent or another in all three crossovers and Lestat even narrates at very least the 3rd crossover, I believe it was[ a pretty important character who hasn't been introduced yet as of IWTV Season 2 but who may theoretically appear in Season 3 or 4 or 5 depending on exactly how they adapt the story or not since I think he first appears in Book 3 or possibly at the very end of Book 2] David - NOT to be confused with Daniel the interviewer from Season 1 & 2 - who narrates the 1st crossover and Louis also appears to some extent within that 1st crossover as well, while a new/crossover-original character narrates the 2nd crossover and has some interactions with Lestat as well) but AMC has the screenrights to _ALL_ of the Vampire Chronicles books(including the crossovers and the 'New Tales of the Vampire Chronicles' spin-offs) as well as the Mayfair trilogy. Anne Rice specifically mentioned the crossover potential herself when first announcing having signed deals to let AMC do the adaptations of both Interview and Mayfair, she said the potential for crossovers specifically was a part of what excited her about signing the deal to let AMC have the rights.
      The IWTV tv series producer having exclusivity rights probably just means that if they want to do the crossovers, they would have to hire him to work on or oversee those crossovers specifically; IF he would agree to do it, they could probably hire him to work on either only one or a few episodes or to work on a whole season, depending on exactly what all they did or didn't want to do; the exclusivity deal is probably more about maintaining character/story continuity than about limiting potential crossover possibilities. Whether or not there would be any crossovers with the Talamasca tv series also probably depends on what exactly they are going to do with the Talamasca series or not, and exactly when in time it is going to be set as happening versus in relation to when events are depicted as happening in the IWTV and Mayfair tv shows.
      It's probably more likely that we could end up seeing Mayfair characters appear on Interview than that we would see characters from Interview appear on Mayfair. That would be relatively consistent with the storylines throughout the crossover novels, I think.
      There are several Talamasca members who appear throughout the Vampire Chronicles novels, at least one of whom is pretty important, but it's major spoilers to get into this in any more detail than just that(and I don't know how this channel's reactor feels about spoilers or not themself, so I will trend toward avoiding getting into them myself). Depending on exactly what they do or not with the Talamasca tv series, it could be difficult to pull off without having Talamasca series characters who will also end up appearing on Interview sooner or later, but again I suspect it is probably more likely that a character might first appear in the Talamasca series and then appear on Interview later on than that characters who would appear first on Interview would then have any cameos on the Talamasca series. But that's just my own best guess.
      I have no guess what the Mayfair/Talamasca series crossover potentials might or might not be, though.

    I interpreted Paul's suicide as stemming from 1) the mistaken belief that he was a burden on his family and that they'd be better off without him, which is of course blatantly untrue but sadly something many mentall ill people believe, and 2) the fear that things were changing and he was getting left behind, as he's shown to be anxious about Grace getting married. I also think it's likely something he'd been planning for a long time, and a decision he was at peace with, since in his final scene seems to be "putting his affairs in order", i.e. making sure Grace's husband loves her, and that Louis's going to stay away from that devil Lestat and marry a nice girl. But his family ends up so devastated by his death it just drives Louis right into the devil's arms, ooopsie... Just goes to show suicide is never a solution and will only make things worse.
