[Lyrics]
I don't care for this world anymore
I just want to live my own fantasy
Fate has brought us to these shores
What was meant to be is now happening
I've found that I like this living in danger
Living on the edge it feels, it makes feel as one
Who cares now what's right or wrong, it's reality
Killing so we survive wherever we may roam
Wherever we may hide we've got to get away
I don't want existence to end
We must prepare ourselves for the elements
I just want to feel like we're strong
We don't need a code of morality
I like all the mixed emotion and anger
It brings out the animal, the power you can feel
And feeling so high with this much adrenaline
Excited but scary to believe what we've become
Saints and sinners, something within us
We are lord of the flies
Saints and sinners, something willing us
To be lord of the flies
Saints and sinners, something within us
We are lord of the flies
Saints and sinners, something willing us
To be lord of the flies
Saints and sinners, something within us
We are lord of the flies
Saints and sinners, something willing us
To be lord of the flies

'Lord Of The Flies' is a song from Iron Maiden's album '''The X Factor'',released in 1995.
"Lord of the flies" is the literal translation of the Greek word Beelzebub, a term used for the Judeo-Christian notion of Satan, or evil personified. What the novel highlights, as well as does the song, is that this evil resides in all of us and, provided that the social barriers cease to exist for whatever reason, breaks loose in extreme situations "What was meant to be is now happening." This "Something willing us to be lord of the flies" is simply ourselves.
'Lord Of The Flies' is based on the William Golding 1954 novel of the same name, which was also made into films in 1963 and 1990. The story tells of a group of school boys who are marooned on a tropical island, and who gradually descend into tribal savagery. This is an energetic type of song, whose lyrics glorify the animal nature that is inherent inside all people. This theme is also dominant in the story told in 'The Edge Of Darkness', where a man, dwelling in the depths of a jungle and freed of all social constraints turns to unspeakable savagery.
In his novel, Golding's intention was clearly to take the counterpoint of previous similar stories where people stranded on a desert island cooperated in order to recreate civilisation as they knew it. In this more realistic story, we see children commonly (and often wrongly!) assumed to represent innocence and fairness return to the tribal savagery of our ancestors, and destroying all trace of civility that some where trying to preserve. As Golding was a teacher, we can assume safely that he'd observed the behaviour of children in the schoolyards and drawn the right conclusions: the lack of social constraints that are ingrained in adults through their upbringing and education is clearly obvious in the way younger children establish their relationships to others. A kindergarten yard is basically a jungle where the strongest simply try to crush the weakest. Take away the discipline that the adult society enforces and you end up with a bunch of savage little animals who "just want to live [their] own fantasy." (Disclaimer: I'm not saying that all kids are systematically either bloodthirsty animals or hapless preys of those, as it also depends on each individual's personality a non-negligible human trait.)
'The X Factor' is the tenth studio album by Iron Maiden, released in 1995. It is the band's first album to include Blaze Bayley, formerly of Wolfsbane, as vocalist, replacing Bruce Dickinson who left the band following their previous tour to pursue a solo career.
The album title came about in the early part of the recording. According to producer Nigel Green:
"We all felt that the way things were progressing - the songs, Blaze's new involvement, the sound, the commitment - the new album really would have that extra quality, that bit of magic, that X Factor. This became the working title for the album and we liked it, so we kept it. It is also very apt as this is our tenth studio album and "X" can bring up many images."
Supporting the album was the X Factour tour. Much like the tour for their following album, Virtual XI, it was cut short after Blaze suffered a violent allergic reaction to certain elements used on the stages where the band performed.
This is the second album (Piece of Mind being the first) that did not have a title track on it, as well as the first album to not feature the album title in any of the song lyrics.
I love Blaze voice. What a song!
Blaze is MUCH better now !
SI. A STEVE LE GUSTAN TANTO LOS DISCOS DE MAIDEN CON BAYLEY QUE LO HECHO CAGANDO DE LA BANDA EL 99 Y DESPUÉS FUE CORRIENDO A PEDIRLE A DICKINSON QUE VOLVIERA Y SACARA A LA BANDA DEL HOYO EN QUE LA HABÍA DEJADO EL GUATON DESAFINAO DE BLAZE
@@murdockdrinkalot83 Realmente Blaze desafinado
El X Factor en cambio es tremendo discazo con temazos como Lord of the Flies, the Sign of the Cross, Fortunes of War o Judgement of Heaven.
To me Blaze is a hero. He had really bad times, he's really underrated, and things went very wrong for him, but tho he was standing still and doing his job
X factor is in the top five maiden albums for me. It is criminally underrated.
natas nnellaf I agree it´s indeed underrated, I love the album, and I do love his voice, dark, intense and extremly powerful....I´ve seen almost everything with him, available on UA-cam....
Top-3
@@emankcin1701 Top 2
I absolutely agree. This album is so raw and Blazes vocals are just what the group needed for the music. Dickinson's voice has sounded strained since F.O.T.D.
@Jörgen Johnson how is it weak? It has some killer riffs, good songs and awesome lyrics
THIS is metal, the thrill, punch and fury on stage is just as amazing as the talent and true showmanship.....only MAIDEN can bring this raw edge on stage, regardless of WHO is singing....btw I LOVE the voice of Blaze....
Hypnotizing !!! I´m a 100 & Iron MAIDEN fan and I love this performance, so much force, energy, fury and extrem passion....The deeper, lower voice of Blaze fits it perfectly, this is just a total blast !!!!
Man, thats commitment
I LOVE this song, as I love Maiden, but honestly just look at them......The punch, passion and raw edge, THIS is the definition of metal music and its power to reign....and the dark, intense and powerful voice of Blaze takes us to the point of EUPHORIA, or even beyond.......Stunning guys !!!
WOW, I´m totally lost for words....I love this song, and I love the powerful, intense and etrem passionate voice of Blaze...This is the real deal, this is heavy metal, and just look at the guys..glowing on stage....this performance is dynamite, insanely good !!!!
I LOVE the X Factor! Blaze a great job! The X Factor is a bible of heavy metal, IMO ! Thanks Blaze !
\m/ #UpTheIrons! greetings from ArgentinA!
^^ this
afterdeath88 the X Factor is a blistering album, and to be honest, I´ve actually become totally hypnotised by Blaze and his intense, powerful and passionate voice !!!
afterdeath88 ykjuk
Nope, but I prefer this one over Death on the Road's version.
This is one of those songs that Blaze performed brilliantly, yes a lot of people criticized him because his vocal limits, but Blaze it's a pretty good singer and this one it's proof of it, Bruce doesn't get the same feeling in his version of Lord of the Flies, I love the albums with Blaze and still a fan of Paul and obviously Bruce Dickinson :)
Metaljuan1989 this song aswell as Virus are absolutely Blaze´s songs, he OWNS them, and his deeper, lower voice fits it just perfect !!
Death on the Road version is a million times better than this piece of shit singing. Listen what Blaze does at 1:20, one octave lower, doesn't lift the song at all. Bruce knows what he's doing. Blaze was a disaster for Maiden.
Singing higher does not always mean better, if so, all tennor singer should give up singing. Blaze knew how to carry the song, his darker to portray the dark colour of both music and lyrics that Steve and Janick wanted to portray. No one is disaster for Maiden music, could be different, but diverse. Only a close-mind for not enjoying the diversity of art is disaster
OUTSTANDING this is as good as anything possibly can be...look at the guys, performing with all their charisma and stage presence, like always...I love this song as I love Maiden, and this performance is absolutely stellar !!!
The sheer definition of METAL POWER !!!! This unique song is a hidden jewel in their discography in its own right, and NOBODY sings it like Blaze, NOBODY.....Look at them, glowing on stage, this performance is totally outstanding !!!
Are you out of your mind? Are you obsessed with blaze or what? You left something like 20474 comments on the same video.
Personally i love how Blaze sings and part of me still wishes he was still in maiden....but i also love how Bruce sings.
I'm waiting when he do a comeback to Maiden!
@@YouBetterYouBet The apocalypse will come about first and it will not have happened the Blaze's return. Believe me he will never return defenetly. Who knows a gig here or there which I already consider very unlikely
I like this version ❤️
The best performance of this song that i've ever see, Blaze is amazing, Janick, Dave, Steve, Nicko, damn! i like this live version!
I was there / Great show 🎶🎼🎵🎸😎👊
Blaze is my favorite. Absolutely.
Amo esse álbum ♥️
I'm really glad, that there was a Blaze era - because for me after "ssotss" maiden became little bit repetive and generic, sound almost always the same. But going through X-Factor was personal struggle for everyone in a band, and Harris personally - and Blaze came in to make Maiden together.
O cara é foda
Ty you Blaze
sensacional esses caras ...
"Blaze Bayley" Good Singer🎤😎👊
great performance,
grande blaze!
What was going on in the guitar players' mind when they wrote this riff? I love it!! Strong, fast, different, unique. I think it was made by Gers, right?
great song!
muy buena.
Essa música é perfeita com blaze
For me Blaze will always be the best!
Say what you want, the color of his voice is the best of the three, it's the voice that tells the dark story.
I love this unique and punchy song, their almost ferocious performance takes my breath away....and this song belongs to BLAZE all the way, it should never be sung in a higher pitch, not even allmighty Bruce sings this song like Blaze, NOBODY does !!!
la meilleur music et musicien du monde
this song makes me happy ^_^
Saints & sinners!
We roam!
Lord of the flies!
Atleast Blaze remembers the lyrics.
It's on sale as a DVD, it's kinda rare, but not expensive
Look it up "Iron Maiden Spit in on Santiago 1996"
Say and think what you want and even if we give credit to Blaze, as a singer and a frontman (which he deserves), he's and always will be out of Bruce's league. Period.
Would love to see a performance like this again! In my oppinion they were more free to do whatever they want in the stage! Today things are more mechanical and determined I guess... Look how Janick goes there to the front of the stage!
Mario Bronzati I must say I agree, I wonder when the dynamics within the group changed, was it when Bruce and Adrian came back, or what, it´s certainly very different today.
excelent
its AWESOME AWESOME.5/5
maidenwildM 10 / 10 !!!!
The Blaze/Bruce debate still rages on many years after Bruce rejoined Maiden and four studio albums have been released since.
You can't escape the fact that Maiden set lists of recent have featured no Blaze era material, recent compilation albums feature very few, if any, songs with Blaze on vocals favouring live versions with Bruce (check 'From Fear To Eternity')
That said, most of the songs that were written specifically for Blaze's range were performed very well by him - this is one of them.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I was here
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
damn..Blaze needs to come back..everything is so so now. He would probably make them heavier again
I really liked albums with Blaze, much manlier and darker, true male vocal color.
Tony
ARE YOU FUCKIN KIDDING ME RIGHT??? WHAT A DUMB ASS!!!
Mantap....👍
@WildMike1234 Steve Harris included "Man on the Edge" and "Futureal" in 2002 and 2005 releases of the compilation "Edward the Great".
up the irons!
When maiden do the Blaze years on the history of Iron Maiden dvd series, this concert should be on there. Was this ever released on DVD or VHS originally?
steve harris must not think much of this era of his band as no footage of blaze has ever been released ,
THIS SHOW WAS TRANSMITED ON TV BY ROCK&POP CHANNEL, THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME OF MAIDEN IN CHILE
Jose Arias Means they should use it then. AWESOME!!
***** So do I, lets hope they sort something as they did record some of his concerts
aye on how not to sing maiden classics
Are my speakers bad, or is it hard to hear Blaze over the rest of the group? IRON MAIDEN FOREVER!
@Powerslave3666 You'r speakers isin't bad....i have the same problem, i can't hear blaze everytime.
Blaze Bayley is very excellent!
The darkest Iron Maiden era! Hard rock doom metal....X -- FUCKING FACTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alek Skot X-factor is indeed a blistering album, and I just love this song with Blaze !!!
sussane williamsson Every time i feel really down, that album charges me with an unbelieveble energy for survival. I dont know, its the lyrics or the music it feeds my brain. A strange dark energy of hope pushing me forward, i feel like this is an album made for loners! I hope i dont sound strange
Alek Skot you don´t sound strange at all, I love this album, and in this particular song, Blaze gives the best atmosphere..he´s a brilliant singer, and his lower, deeper vocal range is perfect, he really steps into your heart, and he will stay there !!
i think he was very good when he sings a maidens
up the irons!
Blaze Bayley has a different singing style from Bruce Dickinson (much more baritone and low end vibrato) so of course he wouldn't sound the same as Bruce just as Bruce was a huge change from the punkish style vocals of Paul Dianno.
Take a listen to Blaze's solo studio material and his live albums and you'd see/hear that he's a great singer and song writer in his own right, it's just a shame that some of the fans couldn't give him more of a chance to show what he could do.
Russians and Slavs are awesome! And remember, in metal, we are all brothers!
@Svvintus I agree. Russians are awesome too, greetings from Serbian brothers :D
did you listen the evil that men do? that's another powerful performance from this one
Blaze looked so jacked in 1996 😂😂
Bless Blaze. Seems like such a nice guy and is a great musician. Wolfsbane, his first band, were awesome.
For me personally though, the combination of Blaze and Maiden just didn’t work well at all.
There are some cool songs but let’s be honest, the new direction with Blaze never sounded like ‘an Iron Maiden album’, which really, is what Maiden fans always want from Iron Maiden.
To be honest though, I don’t think anybody was really qualified to fill the huge shoes left by Bruce when he left.
Either way, I’m glad Bruce is back and Blaze is still making good music of his own.
Theo best song blaze
Lord of the Files
Ok, i like this song in studio version but when blaze is singing live he is just, bad?
this song is one of blazes shining moments with maiden. and like wrathchild, i hated bruces version on DOTR. and about his vocals lower than the band.....clearly this was done on purposely because at this time, the other members were who people were paying to see w blaze filling in. when bruce came back, the vocals were amped up again on tour.
Have you forgot Death on the road?
STAHIT79 no, I´m a 100 % Maiden fan, but I´m sorry, this song belongs to Blaze, all the way, I think the version with Bruce was pretty lame...
@MaxPayneIzRudog Hello brothers Slavs! Russian with you!
Fish tank ice head fish dunk
@PaltryPete nope ;)
love this version but it is sad that his voice is a bit low, I guess its due to reccording
It was on purpose. It's the same on the album records.
Blaze is going bald in this

Nope Blaze rocks all the songs he did on X Factor and Virtual 11
This song here sounds flat. Shame on.
I like Blaze, but you can hear him tired here; This is not his main vocal power.
In this song Blaze > Bruce
UP THE IRONS
Dafuq is this
he was an awful choice 2 replace bruce 2 low n 2 quiet at least priest gt the guy from the no.1 priest tribute band 2 replace halford
He is not a good vocalist
Bruce is better.. especially on highs..
Blaze is amongst the worst singers out there.. totally out of tune. I cannot even cope with the idea that he was chosen..
the x factor is one of the best iron maiden albums out there, its really progressive and has a sincere dark sound to it. its something different, and it is what it is partly due to blaze. his vocal style fits it perfectly, he is technically way worse than bruce, yes, with awful stage presence. hes simply not fit as a front man for iron maiden as a whole.
but this album owns. I loved it since I was 12. probably one of my most listened to albums by Iron Maiden. But.. Bruce Dickinson is the front man, and Iron Maiden wouldnt exist without him, overall he and Iron Maiden is vastly better than with Blaze ofcourse.
terrible performance from Blaze...
Respect for Blaze... All this effort and emotions... The sound was awful, you can barely hear him and they wouldn't turn the mic volume on.
@Rockberto19 COMPARTO UN POCO TU OPINON NADIE PUEDE IGUALAR A BLAZE
Power and wonderful performance. Blaze is a remarkable singer. Full Of angry, passion, energy.
Eduardo Lagunas Elgueta I completely agree, this is dynamite !!!

No he's not actually. He's a bad bad singer.
@@fetthunderdome You are right, he's all over the place out of tune. I can't listen to him.
@Powerslave3666 You'r speakers isin't bad....i have tha same problem, i can't hear blaze everytime.
I don't care what anyone says, Blaze was awesome with Iron Maiden. Iron Maiden throughout the years with lineup changes have always maintained that signature sound which is Iron Maiden :) Right into my IRON MAIDEN playlist. ROCK ON!!!!!!!
MrMegaFredZeppelin I love it too, I really like Blaze´s two albums, he´s got a lot of outstanding songs under his belt, like this one, he totally owns it...bye the way, are you a Led Zeppelin fan, just like me ? I´ve noticed you´r user picture....
Awesome with Iron Maiden? Almost made them go bankrupt.
I loved his voice

@@AerikVon Not only money alone, but SKILLS and MONEY. Nothing else puts butter on your table and pays your bills, man. Filling small clubs like in the Bayley days doesn't drive the Maiden wagon forward. Their whole business would have died. Maiden is a music business, man. Get a grip!
Am I the only who actually prefer Blaze's voice on this track?
PaltryPete no you´r not, I prefer Blazes voice too....
PaltryPete absolutely not, this song is in every respect OWNED by him, I´ve seen this song with Bruce, but he sang it way to high, loosing the meaning and power in the process....
No your not the onlye one
You're not but I prefer Bruce's rendition better...
Always wanted a Maiden concert with Blaze making an appearance and singing this song 🤙🤙
THIS is the sheer definition of metal, a hidden jewel in their discography in its own right, and look at theese guys, glowing on stage...a phenomenal performance, a unique mix of guitar harmonies and a powerful voice !!!!
