      It’s still not enough lol. I know someone who got a 296 on step 2 and still couldn’t get into competitive residencies. Best way is to go through a US med school.
      If you think about it; it makes sense. Imagine a student in USA who spends $300-400k on medical school here, gets too USMLE scores and then loses out to someone from another country who went to a way cheaper school. Now the USA student is pissed and will tell others to not go to med school because it’s a scam. This will lead to medical schools getting less students and money. It’s artificially controlled by the medical board and keeps US doctors employed and in demand.
      Otherwise, we’d face the problem we are having in the tech industry with an overwhelming amount of immigrants taking all the jobs.

    I'd love to see "So You Want to Be a Neonatologist". I've wanted to ask for this for a while, but as a premie, it's taken me a while to build up the strength.

    I think Maxillofacial surgery should be there
    I know it’s considered as a dental subspecialty but the scope of their work is much larger than only the teeth they can treat different diseases affecting the head and neck region including cancers and they can do reconstructive surgery after that , they also do plastic surgery and many other things

    Can you do so you want to be a radiation oncologist? And I want to know if it’s going to be a good specialty in a decade from now

    • @beathebommel6060

      Radiooncologist here. It is a small and amazing field. Since the numbers of people diagnosed with cancer are increasing due to better diagnostics you won't run out of patients. Additionally Radiotherapy becomes more and more important in palliative treatment. People who are about to die soon and suffer from intense tumor pain often get radiotherapy for pain relief.
      Working in radiation oncology means you need to be able to deal with death a lot. Not everyone can handle that.

      @@beathebommel6060 Yeah, I am willing to do that and even go on the long journey, but do you have an excellent work-life balance? And it took you around 13 years to become one. Is it easy or hard to match into residency? How much do you make, if you don’t mind sharing, and how many hours did you have to work in residency, like 40-50 or more, like 50-60 per week? I live in the US, so I plan to settle down here if it did residency here and settle down. Here, please let me know if would help me a lot to make my decision

      @@aayusharyal8468 Since I am living and working in Germany I can just judge the situation here. Here it is about five years of residency. It is no problem finding a job if you are flexible. Our clinic is actually advertising residency positions. Might be harder to find something in the really big cities but also not impossible.
      I work 42h a week + 3-4 24h shifts a month which I am compensated with money and free time. And since we just have a ward and no ICU or emergency room to take care of our night shifts are pretty relaxed. I can't complain compared to the surgeons, radiologists, neurologists or internal medicine doctors in our clinic who barely sleep at night :)
      I think salary is hard to compare due to a very different tax system here.

    should I got to a community college or a 4 year uni for premed?

    • @treasurehollis8040
      @treasurehollis8040 2 місяці тому

      You’ll need a bachelors degree to apply (to most med schools but strongly recommend) a community college will get you the first two years. You can transfer to a 4 year university for the last two years and be just fine. If you feel that that is the best route for you, by all means do it! Much cheaper route if you do not have scholarships. Good luck!
