- This episode we continued our Journey North of Tokyo to see the historic village of Shirakawago within the gifu prefecture, it is one of the best things to do in Japan. We stayed the night around Takayama as it was only an hour by bus to Shirakawago and we also did a Takayama Food tour and if you are wondering what to eat in takayama well its Hida Beef.

All of the snow everywhere makes it that much more beautiful. The snow looks perfect for snowballs. The beef bun looks tasty and would warm you up on a cold day.

Ah, Gifu 😊 I studied abroad there in high school and miss it dearly! Couldn't get used to the small portion sizes so my host parents took me to hotel buffets all the time haha

Hi Rahima - :D glad you enjoy the guide! - ah wonderful hopefully there is already some nice breeze, not sure if there will be snow.
generally the prices at the villages there are more expensive but you can check ml.shirakawa-go.org/en/accommodation/ or booking.com for more option - there are some good insights on the accommodations around shirakawago, we stayed at takayama because we the village was fully booked out. And takayama was a really good cheap alternative option :D - but if you do stay at the village at least you can wake up early when the tourist isnt around for some fantastic breathtaking shots! :D let me know how you go - nick -

We visited end of Dec and celebrated New Year at Shirakawago😄 I think middle Dec - Feb would have plenty of snow. We are going to Japan again this winter, end of Jan but Hokkaido this time!
