I had to audition on this piece back in the 90s. I really wish I had the resources a lot of these kids have now; it would have really streamlined the learning process.
wonderful!! classic rep every trombonist should learn :) Have fun learning kiddos and remember not to stress, practice everyday, and most importantly enjoy making music. GOOD LUCK!
They had this as one of the etudes when I was in HS, I was Horrible at it, I tried so hard, even with having lessons, the only reason I didn’t get last place was because someone just left and quit band altogether so they were technically last but yeah… I was Almost gonna quit band altogether but the director was like “Hey Brad, you should switch to a different instrument like Tuba you’d be good at it, the Trombone section is too stacked and you’ll NEVER move up otherwise” I was hesitant at first but I switched and they moved me up to the top ensemble the next semester after less than a month of playing the new instrument, I barely didn’t make region the next year and I did somehow make it when I was a Senior. Sometimes I think I should’ve just quit and done sports, I might be close to being in the NFL right now if I actually tried to put in effort back then lol, but I was too lazy back then to know what I know now and I got to deal with my inaction. Besides that I think music is a super important thing that everyone should do, put in the Effort, don’t be like I was. I’m glad this reminded me of how different I was back then, I’m the best I’ve ever been now and I’m only on the up and up from here!
I'm a Flute player and I started to watch these types of videos, such as sax lessons, trombone, and more. One of the noises I heard here sounded like a fart-
Wow, john is looking more like Sean Schemmel every day. His voice sounds like him too. Sean's a friend of mine, and it's uncanny. Not a bad thing, it's just freaky
This video reminds me why I gave up studying the trombone in uni and picked up the ukulele later in life, transferring all the bebop licks to a clearly more superior instrument.
Dang. I got my cuts switched when I joined full region rather than freshman region. The end of the song is killing me. I had 4 days to do it. The region submission is due tonight. Wish me luck 😆
John, what happened to your body and hair??? I'm scared now. Anyway, great playing as always. I'm going to predict for etude 3, you say the exact same words you said 2 years ago when that was the etude for ATSSB.
@@aayushdhurka2425 Thanks for the input, guys. I rewatched it on 0.25x speed. My impression is that his slide moved between the last two Fs so that he hits a lower note. The following G is also way too flat. After that, he seems to be more or less on track again. So my inital assumption that he plays a totaly wrong scale was not correct.
But yeah, I must've moved slightly early on the F. To me, that's much less important than making sure the phrasing is clear. A couple imperfect notes here and there are no big deal compared to playing completely boring

The 16th notes are super clean! Bravo!
Bro this dude gets exponentially better every year I swear. Great work
I never knew a trombone can sound so pretty and fancy and powerful and all that good stuff at the same time.... :’0
Man it just hit me im old, i played this when i was in hs, and now its back into the rotation🤣
He has such iconic sounding voice.
Are you trying to get in the video lol
The captions on while he’s playing is literally how I feel!😂💀”hUh” “bye”

(2015 was a horrible year for me)
Those high G's are beautiful

Invaluable video for arrangers who want to learn how to write for the instrument. Well done, and much thanks!

Blooper scenes?!?! Best music video ever.

I came cause I play trombone

I’m here cause I played this for region my sophomore year, it’s easier with valves since it was for euphonium then.

Sacrilege! Trombone is superior and in a close second is violin.#TwoSetViolin #ClassicalTrombone
them some chops, what a player
Great video!!! Inspires me to keep practicing trombone.
This piece is harder than normal tbh
You have this so clean meanwhile my G is a struggle to get out
You'll get it eventually! This honestly looks like a lot of but I no longer get to participate in the all state auditions anymore and I played tuba.

this went WAY harder than it should have
The only thing I found difficult on this etude was the middle section at 0:41
this is also one of the euphonium etudes for OkMEA this year 🤠
Hi John long time no see
Que maravilha!
That's talent!
This was the same piece I had for euphonium when I was a sophomore in hs, 2011 lol
When are you going to do this year’s etudes? They are a lot easier except for maybe one-two places. And even those spots aren’t too bad.
Look for them in early September!
Beautiful intonation, you make it look so easy! What horn are you playing this on?
Thanks dude.
What book do you get these studies?

Neither. The one without the entire bell segment. The whistling one

Yes, C2

No
Noah Urquidi Yes

@David Johnston sweet. kinda looking for stuff like this on trombone

What’s the reason to disliking a video like this?
Reality setting in that you will never be that good .
Боже, этот голос...
Oh dang.. he showed me lol

Does your tenor have two triggers?
It has the shires twin valve, two small valves instead of one big valve
No tenor has two tiggers . If it dose it’s a bass.
@@Potter5416 look up the shires twin valve
Chandler Ellis ok I saw the video on it , it’s a shires invention, I stand corrected. Personally I’m not a fan of the string linkages.

why does he seem like hes been dubbed over
I play trumpet but damn.....

I can hit the notes, but hitting notes plus the RHYTHM, fat chance
Doesn't he play the wrong scale in measure 41?
Um no, if you slow it down, he's playing F G A Bb
Saurav Bastola It’s not the wrong scale though
It barely sounds funky and wouldn’t be the wrong scale at all
