Gabriel Purugganan My bad. I thought he was pronouncing it the way the Fung Bros. were and the Fung Bros. tend to pronounce things wrong. Thanks for the info.
Yahh. I guess his/her parent introduce it to him not by word but by heart...specially that balot the way he eat it.. not an actor like faking that he like it like other bloggers!!!🤣🤣
I was kinda apprehensive seeing that half Pinoy rep Filipino food, but damn he owned it! Fung Bros you amaze me at how knowledgeable you guys are with food from different backgrounds. You guys actually know what you're talking about. Keep it up!
Ryan Benson you’re welcome. I honestly feel genuinely happy that you haven’t turned your back to the Filipino culture. Your mom must have raised you well. Keep it up~~~ hope to see more of you on UA-cam..
Half Irish is on point! He knows his stuff well... and thank God no one said "mix-mix" because halu-halo means assorted as in the combination of whatever. For all the snowflakes, yes halo means mix and you mix it all up before eating it but when you say "Halu-halo" as a whole it means assorted. Thumbs up on the food crawl.
Yea! I never even knew that if not dried correctly, you can get hit with allergies! haha. I never liked Laing though, even though my grandma would always place it on the roof to let it dry inside the wooden flat basket haha.
You should try modeling in the Philippines. Half pinoy get a lot of works there. I did some Tv commercials when I was there. This is the agency I signed with www.monacomodels.ph
Dude, this guy legit knows Filipino food. I'm born, raised and living in the Philippines and I didn't know you had to dry the Taro Leaves to get the itchiness out! I always thought it was just Talbos ng Kamote simmered with Gata.
Not all taro leaves is itchy, some of them are. I came from bicol and we cook it dry or fresh for laing. Can also use for cucido( a fish soup with calamansi) we use the small unopen leaf and tie it or cooked in vinegar and coconut milk with smoked fish will also do.
Rock TV you're one of those always on social media commenting and spreading hate comments, using foul language, and grabbing every opportunity to bash anyone you think erroneous. You give shame to Filipinos worldwide. You could've corrected me politely (as I failed to hear him say his other nationality) but your manners is just shameful.
That comment, "It's personal!" I love that, because its more inclusive! Chef's do make their meals more of an intimate reflection of their experiences, and I love how you are so mindful of all these things! You are my favorite multicultural foodies!
I loved that comment too. It's personal. It's like watching a good creative movie or reading a good book that has elements of someone's life. Wonderful.
@@nueldejesus9252 yeah true, we have this hotpot dish called güveç. Its made with potatoes, lamb on bone, tomatoes, peppers and some spices. Im sure you ll love it.
The papaya thing with the crispy pata is atchara and it is served on the side with a lot of dishes. Also, the chili's are a staple on the table as well, just that you get to choose how much chili you want and you are the one to chop them up.
except for the turon that he said it's a plantain instead of saging na saba. but i don't blame him bcoz they can't find saba in the states, so they substitute the plantain for the turon.
That papaya salad is actually a traditional Filipino condiment called atchara. It’s basically pickled green papaya. It’s meant to cut through the fat of all that fried food! PS those red chilis are traditionally found in Filipino food, usually in coconut based dishes like laing, Bicol express, etc. It’s also almost always part of our “sawsawan” or dipping sauce, along with calamansi, soy sauce or fish sauce!
Masyadong overrated.
We do actually use chilis, usually in our dips called "sawsawan" made of soy sauce/fish sauce/calamansi. Our chili is called siling labuyo or bird's eye chili. We also have our papaya salad called "atchara" and it's usually a side to fried food.
There is a filipino papaya dish called "atchara" and the Bicol region is known for spicy dish where chili called "Labuyo" is grown and known for chili icream. Thank you fpr featuring filipino food.
Ryan know his Fiipino foods! As a Filipina this is probably how to fall in love with 4 guys at the same time, them trying to get the tastiest bite of everything. FYI, Calamansi juice is a traditional cure for runny nose and cough. And Calamansi has the highest Vitamin C in all Filipino citrus fruits.
It's very refreshing to see a guest who knows what he's talking about (great job Ryan!) instead of these random girls / Andrew + David giving noob explanations about whatever dish.
Birds eye chili is common in filipino dishes not just Thai and not all are fried. Also, we have our own Chinese ( fookien) cha siu, ma kee mi, Sio Pao. etc. lots of influences from Spanish, Chinese and malay. it's Halo- Halo :). awesome video!
Robin Hood it's not like that. It's just normally some Filipinos, especially the one who did not grow up in the PH, don't know a lot about our culture and that involves our food. It's nice to see that this guy explained every dish so well. He is a legit pinoy 👏
Pinakamasarap na pagkain!! I ❤️Filipino food. What’s your favorite?? try Bikolano and Ilocano food too - most dishes they serve to Americans are Kapampangan or Tagalog. 🇵🇭
Nice! Thanks, Ryan Benson, for representing the Philippines (via its food) properly! You probably had a childhood life with a lot of food and friends. :)
No part 2? They havent tried all actually... they should try dinuguan with puto.. champorado and tuyo.. papaitan kambing... inasal chicken with atsara... halang halang.. ginagmay.. so many more to recommend
Wow he’s half Filipino but he knows a lot of Filipino foods. Unlike to the girl in “too many places and too many people” who represents Philippines 🇵🇭 but doesn’t know anything about Philippines 🇵🇭. Kudos to you Ryan. I’m so proud of you

I wish we had more places like these in the north east UK... I have to drive over an hour close to 2 hours just to get to a small Asian market 🙄 I need all this food in my life!! 😥 great video xx
That half Filipino dude knew his stuff, will definitely try the restaurants on my next NYC trip. The Fung bros. are so fun, loved their TV show, bring it back. For real though, if I ate like that in one day, my stomach would explode.
OMG! Finally a Filipino in this show who knows what he's talking about; let this Ryan guy do Filipino food from now on!
forever7resh thanks man!
forever7resh reallywrong spelling
Ryan is a legit Filipino, he explains it so well, man. Kudos to ryan.
except for the way he pronounces "kumain". Lol.
The restaurant's name is Kuma Inn, a play on the word kumain - that's why he's saying it that way.
Gabriel Purugganan My bad. I thought he was pronouncing it the way the Fung Bros. were and the Fung Bros. tend to pronounce things wrong. Thanks for the info.
not agree with the Daing na Bangus though.
Yup agree. Kumpara mo kay aj rafael na mali mali.
Dudes, you gotta get Ryan back on for more Filipino food eps -- he's got some legit knowledge on the food, especially that little tidbit on the laing.
TheGuitar Person thanks man. Much appreciated!

same! and Daing & Laing looks like a good pair in a meal 😊
Thank you!! :)
If you don't have time to dry taro leaves, blanched them in hot water to get rid of itchiness
eh baka kasi puro kasosyalan ang alam mo hahaha
Not all taro leaves is itchy, some of them are. I came from bicol and we cook it dry or fresh for laing. Can also use for cucido( a fish soup with calamansi) we use the small unopen leaf and tie it or cooked in vinegar and coconut milk with smoked fish will also do.
Props to Ryan, he did a great job!
He even ate the balut, no one else tried it.
That is a really good Filipino representative there, he may not be a pure pinoy but his knowledge is legit
Im impressed with the knowledge on Filipino food by your Fil-Am friend. He grew up there but everything he said was on spot.
Thank you brotha!!

Mervin Yutuc thank you 🙏🏼
The papaya thing with the crispy pata is atchara and it is served on the side with a lot of dishes.

Love you Fung Bros! Appreciate the openness to try lesser known Filipino dishes. Ryan also did a great job as your food guide :)
Kool stuff guys, i like to see more of your Filipino food adventures, thanks for sharing vid, thumbs up.
We do actually use chilis, usually in our dips called "sawsawan" made of soy sauce/fish sauce/calamansi. Our chili is called siling labuyo or bird's eye chili. We also have our papaya salad called "atchara" and it's usually a side to fried food.
Great job Ryan. My nephews are mixed and I hope they get to know their Filipino culture better when they visit Philippines next year.
There is a filipino papaya dish called "atchara" and the Bicol region is known for spicy dish where chili called "Labuyo" is grown and known for chili icream. Thank you fpr featuring filipino food.
Ryan talked about Filipino food so well that people actually want to try it even if they are not Pinoys. Great job!
The papaya side salad is called Atchara, pickled green papaya which is a Filipino condiment for fried dishes 😊
I skimmed over some parts of the video but this is the most credible Filipino food expert you had as a guest. 😊
Kudos to Ryan! He really knows what he's talking about. Never failed me on that Halo-halo.. well, basically with everything 👏❤
Lumasag Jane thank you!!
It's so weird seeing a filipino resto having a chopstick hahaha but anyway kudos to having a good filipino guest! ♡♡♡
This tour Filipino food guide you got is on point!!!’ So proud of how his lola brought him up loving Pinoy food!
Ryan know his Fiipino foods! As a Filipina this is probably how to fall in love with 4 guys at the same time, them trying to get the tastiest bite of everything. Ryan did a great job! Every details were all right. 🤗👏👏
It's very refreshing to see a guest who knows what he's talking about (great job Ryan!) instead of these random girls / Andrew + David giving noob explanations about whatever dish.
bkcalvine thank you! Much appreciated :)
In the Philippines, we call that papaya salad - "achara". It's commonly added as a side dish to chicken, pork and beef dishes.
I think it's more of a Pickled papaya than a salad
Ryan! Props to you kuya (brother). Very articulate! You did your research!

Denise Pascua WHY WEREN'T YOU PROUD BEFORE?

looks so yum! I've never tried filipino food. but after watching this, I came to want to try some.
Pinakamasarap na pagkain!! I ❤️Filipino food. What’s your favorite?? try Bikolano and Ilocano food too - most dishes they serve to Americans are Kapampangan or Tagalog. 🇵🇭

Abigail Nicole Pajarillo Jollibee is not a true Filipino food. It's a fast food joint. It's like saying try McDonald's for American food.
