    some of you need to realize if bo himself realized he fucked up, you don’t need to come to his defense. he’s said many times comedians shouldn’t get defensive about their past jokes if they don’t hold up, and he’s also said how he doesn’t need people to defend him.

    • @crycrywolf

      Yes but teenagers spamming his videos, making stuff up and editing his content to remove the obviously satirical parts, attacking other fans, telling them to kill themselves (especially when an editor in the fandom DID just kill themselves) also isnt ok. It’s good to discuss and address his past work and be honest about it but most of the Gen Z I see are not concerned with any kind of conversation or accountability. They just want to use it as an excuse to bully.

      But also was pretty much forced to delete some of his old stuff recently because kids were spamming his videos and attacking people who were commenting. And also kids were (and still are) harassing his fans and saying he still supports all his old material because “if he was actually sorry he would have deleted it.” So he can’t win honestly.

      Frankly……I love all of Bo’s material, I don’t think he’s flopped in any of his comedy although he’s explored different directions…but I really don’t like that he distances himself from his old material this way. I don’t think he made his edgy jokes out of cruelty or hatred for anyone, and I think that his 2006/7 audience didn’t come away with that impression either. Take for example klan kookout and his Helen Keller song- both were on his channel, both are gone now. They’re both absolutely drenched in shock value and I guess edgy humor, but I’m perplexed as to why they’re so awful that he has to distance himself from them to the point of deleting them. It should be obvious to anyone with two brain cells that klan kookout for example is a SATIRE, he’s mocking the people who’s at the kinds of things he’s saying in the song. I think as our society has soaked in social media we’ve lost the ability to understand or grapple with satire and now it seems that a song like that is offensive more because of the devolution of our ability to appreciate satire rather than it “not being funny” and something to be ashamed of.

    • @crycrywolf
      @crycrywolf 2 роки тому +4

      @@jacksonturner242 I absolutely agree and I think anyone with half a brain knows that and thats why his audience has always been fairly diverse. All my friends who are queer are big fans of his, including myself. We can definitely tell when we can trust someone (and this video does a great job of explaining how he gains that trust with his audience: ua-cam.com/video/Np3qzjiaa-E/v-deo.html). His stuff honestly wasn’t any more shocking than something you’d see on South Park or Family Guy.
      However, there’s a tiktok video with 6 million views insisting klan cookout was in fact completely just bo singing about being racist. “Dressed up like a slave owner recently??” And “I heard he compared black peoples faces to a high school track???” was left on several of his official videos, and most of them have things calling him a Nazi or a racist or a homophobe. Just sort by new comments. Just today I’ve seen at least a dozen tweets saying he’s a literal Nazi and a member of the klan. Right before he deleted Klan Cookout there was some really intense fighting in the comments and I hope he wasn’t the one personally reading that shit.
      I know cancel culture is LARGELY just an exaggeration from people not wanting to be held accountable however it can’t be understated the campaign that’s going on right now (a friend of mine was told to slit her throat because she got a Bo tattoo, we reported the comment but still….). A family member who is barely online even commented on it and asked me if it was true “the guy who made Inside” was a racist because she kept seeing that everywhere.
      I don’t think this is why Bo was distancing himself from his old material (these videos are all old) but the problem is there’s no room for nuance in popular culture right now. And I think hes about to have some very real career consequences unfortunately. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s why he got dropped from HBO’s new show and I’m kind of worried Sesame Street will drop him too (he wrote all of the music for the upcoming movie).

    • @jacksonturner242

      @@crycrywolf wow…..all of that is completely new to me. I’m not on tiktok (and never have been on Twitter either for that matter) and I guess that’s why. I guess it’s also tougher if you “grew up” online like Bo did, as someone who has to be aware constantly of how he’s perceived because of his contents origin. As far as the cancel culture stuff goes I think it’s a mixed bag and I can’t help but feel like Bo’s own behavior in distancing himself from his old material and his own political leanings are likely to shield him in ways that would not if he stood by his old material and dismissed the sensitivity and eggshell sensibilities of younger people. Honestly……I feel like the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Idk- with no awareness of what you’ve talked about in your last comment I guess I’m just out of the loop but that’s gotta be so frustrating.
