  • At 16, Bo Burnham became a viral sensation by uploading comedy videos on UA-cam. Now 25, Burnham has a stand-up comedy special on Netflix called, "Bo Burnham: Make Happy." In this interview with "CBS This Morning: Saturday" co-host Anthony Mason, Burnham explains why he's not pressured by political correctness and how he sees it as an "overcorrection for a serious problem."

      I have to echo the first response here, you equate being offended with being correct or having the moral high ground which just is not the case. For me, anything should be allowed within the context of a joke, nothing off limits. People are allowed to be offended and people are allowed to offend. I don't know why we go to such lengths to protect "hurt feelings" (which is what being offended is) this day and age. nothing happened, it was just words. That is my view anyway. People should not be getting cancelled or losing their career because they made a joke that the woke mob deemed not allowed in their tyrannical world of policing peoples views and speech. At least that's my take. If a majority truly found something so vulgar or offensive then well, the person saying it would not get very far without cleaning up their act.

      @clockworkcrew8012 3 роки тому +48

      He would probably not agree with this take now. That was one of the main points of Inside, and actually him only making jokes about white people is following critical race theory. Rac-ism is a system defined by race, in favor of one race over another. The racists would then be the people who benefit from the system favoring their race, and they defend the system because it works for them, creating some racist justification like black people are criminals. You cannot be racist against racists though, as the system benefits them. You can't be racist towards white people as white people will still benefit by being shot by cops less, possessing generational wealth, and being trusted more, no matter what one person says about them.. If you are racist to black people you are perpetuating the the system of racism that already exists, you are buying into the system that wants you to believe that, spreading the lie to others, then making you a racist. Some songs as evidence: white woman Instagram, comedy, thats how the world works, and welcome to the internet. And Just so everyone knows, yes, the typical use of racism how you know, discrimination on race, is a thing, but when we are talking about society, culture, and nations, this is the accepted and widely practiced academic theory. We don't live in an equal system, we still live in a racist one, where racism disproportionately affects some more than others, and we must acknowledge that so we can fix the issue, demolishing any racial structure we find. Then with no race structure, where there is full equality, no one could be racist, then you could joke about whatever you want. But until then, jokes that would support the racial-class structure of our society, are racist.

    Burnham pretty much hits the nail on the head here and BIll Burr has similar view where the people that feel offended are such a small minority that who cares what they say? As Burr puts it, it's like 1 blog and some tweets, why not just ignore that vocal minority for like a week and it just disappears w/ no consequence. Burnham's point about the pendulum swinging in the right direction is also a very good point. While SJW and political correctness has gone too far, right now it still better than decades ago when racism and misogyny were accepted. We just have to hope the political correctness doesnt get too out of hand that it infringes on free speech like Burnham says.

"offense takers" aren´t the silent majority but they have a more influence than blogs and tweets, people are losing their jobs, policy and law is catering to them, politicians are using their talking points etc. If it were possible to just ignore, like one mostly does one would, but it´s not possible because they have too much power.

The problem with now is everything going viral. We make PC too much of a problem, and THATS why it becomes a problem. Ghostbusters blew up because it went viral. They marketed towards the fact that so many people are PC and to the people that hate it. The fact that we HATE anything PC is part of the problem as well. It's always been relevant in younger generations. It's the reason we no longer use the f slur and the reason we no longer call black people negros. The civil rights movement, women's suffrage movement, and gay rights movement were all filled with people of the now older generations whose views were seen by their elders in a similar way to how our views are seen now. Society evolves with time and political correctness is part of that. Plus, if a word makes someone around you uncomfortable and it costs you nothing to not say it then the only reason you could have to say it is to be rude or for satire to make fun of people who say it seriously... • @ZacharyFinch
      @ZacharyFinch 2 роки тому +7

      Media companies have pretty much always been privately owned. If you’re concerned about them controlling free speech, then your problem is with the free market. They’ve always been controlling the news, and they do so to make money. The only difference is that other info that they don’t cover can now go viral and contrast with their typical narratives. They aren’t getting more manipulative, everyone else is just getting louder, so we’re realizing the picture is a lot bigger. Problem is that now everyone is confused and disagreeing more than ever about what’s real.
