that's actually a rather common way to become disenchanted with scientology. Unsurprisingly sea org members aren't really allowed on the internet unsupervised.

That's actually exactly why David Miscaviage's father Ron said he left scientology. David made the mistake of giving Ron a Kindle for his birthday that allowed him to connect to the internet. He googled scientology, saw how much everyone was laughing at it and decided to leave.

I was in a music video that was filmed at a rented stage at the Scientology building in Hollywood. We were just there to film our video then pack up and leave, but these people hounded us. Like seriously...they pressed us to watch a seminar, talk to a counselor, passing us pamphlets in the restroom. I had never felt so creeped out in my life. It's like everyone was under some type or brainwashing, with nothing behind their eyes...this droid type of stare they had was eerie as hell.

    • @saraha180
      @saraha180 8 років тому +50

+Jacques Nomdefamille I'm by no means a fan of Scientology, but I don't see any real reason to deny tax exemption to Scientology while granting it to a Mormon or Pentecostal church. They all have an organized system of beliefs-some worldly and some supernatural-that informs the thoughts, actions and goals of the lives of adherents.
All three are young denominations that originated in America. Mormonism, like Scientology, was founded by a charismatic storyteller who has been frequently accused of being a power-seeking con artist rather than a true believer.
Scientology's leaders may live in luxury drawn from the wealth of believers, but Scientology's "bases" pale in comparison to St. Peter's Basilica. Some Scientologists are cut off from the world, but so are religious monks and nuns. The crimes committed in the name of Scientology are insignificant compared to religiously motivated atrocities like the Inquisition, the Witch Trials and even 9/11.
The Internet has decided it hates Scientology. I find that the best policy is that when the Internet decides it hates something, you should probably treat it as a case of mass hysteria and not take it too seriously. Documentaries like _Going Clear_ are fantastic and may help reduce the current level of abuse in the CoS or help further the decline of membership.
Despite its unpopularity, I don't see any real reason to treat Scientology differently from other religions. Perhaps we should put an end to all religious exemptions, but I don't think we're better off as a nation if we say we'll only give a subsidy to Abrahamic churches.
*TLDR*: there are plenty of reasons to dislike Scientology, but it clearly meets the definition of a religion. It might seem full of unbelievable claims, but having claims that are unbelievable to non-adherents is arguably part of the definition of a "religion".

Of course it was 2000years ago when people thought the earth was flat, That space was crystal balls glowing in the sky and death or disease was caused by witches, Logic and rational thinking isn't the strong point of any cult new or old. *Definition of cult*: "a misplaced or excessive admiration for a particular person or thing" or."a system of religious veneration and devotion directed toward a particular figure or object" $cientology may be a cult, but so is Christianity. *Edit*: Also want to say good on the two above who admit to being ex-Scientologists publicly that's awesome and takes real courage, welcome back! :D

Zevin X lol I hope you're trolling, there was never a belief that the earth was flat. Since Greek times forward every scholar and every commoner knew the earth was round. The flat earth myth didn't pop up until more recent times, in the late 1800s. Not to mention that scientists along with the Catholic Church theorized some of the largest and most well respected scientific discoveries in the world.

    • @-Zevin-

      Aaron Montclair
Wow as a history major i am thoroughly embarrassed at your ignorance. Where do i start, The belief that the earth was flat did and does exist to this day. Yes the Ancient Greeks figured out that the earth was spherical and measured it's circumference with astonishing accuracy as far back as the 6th century BCE. That did not stop millions of uneducated primitive people from believing the earth was flat for hundreds and even thousands of years. Educated and very wealthy Greeks figured this out, They didn't exactly have the internet back then and couldn't just tweet that information around from their iPhones..., To the Gauls, the Germanic people, the very primitive tribes in the middle east, or countless other people. If you think that groups like ISIS are primitive or barbaric i would like to introduce you to the majority of the world at the time.
Scientists discovered some important things under and *DESPITE* of the Catholic church who fought them and censored them every step of the way..Nicholas Copernicus and Galileo Galilei were two scientists who printed books that later became banned. Copernicus faced no persecution when he was alive because he died shortly after publishing his book. Galileo, on the other hand, was tried by the Inquisition after his book was published. It is only very recently that the catholic church has warmed up to modern science. Stop trying to rewrite history. *Do you have anything else foolish to say, or are you done?*

maha77 I've suffered a real miscarriage. It was a traumatic and horrible time in my life I never want to repeat. I would expect dealing with David Miscavige elicits similar feelings in anyone that meets him (that isn't brainwashed).

Perhaps you should check out his channel, The Underground Bunker (with +Tony Ortega) and do some research before you start branding people as something they're not. Mmmmkay?? SMH

Synthia Fagen How come the liberal media never makes fun of the church of ATHEISM?
All I see liberals doing for the past 4yrs is making fun of religion. Yet they don't realize that atheism is a religion.
Websters Dictionary of Religion footnotes: "...A religion does not require the belief in a deity, but only require faith in a belief that is not scientifically provable"
Well G-golly!!! Atheism has yet to prove that INTELLIGENT DESIGN does not exist scientifically.

Grim No because liberals are yellow belly cowards. They never make fun of Atheists or Jews or even Islam in fear of being called a "bigot", "anti-semitic" or a "islamaphobe".
But its ok to make fun of Christianity. Liberalism is hypocrisy at its finest.
