Baylee that manufacturer is unprofessional and shady as hell. He pushed back the manufacturing so that freight would cost more. Do not use them again. Granted that freight can be expensive, that price is ridiculous.

You should demand the manufacturer pay the shipping difference. It’s their fault it took so long to finish the boxes in the first place. You should not have to pay for their malfeasance. If they’d stuck to their original shipping date estimates, you wouldn’t have had to pay more.

Goodness baylee. I audibly gasped when you said the shipping cost 😱. I really feel that they should send you proof of shipping so you actually can confirm it costs that much. Also as others have said in the comments, I really feel that they should pay the shipping diffrence seeing as its been their incompetence/mistakes that have delayed the manufacturing/ shipping process in the first place!

Would you be comfortable discussing profit like you have for conventions in the past? I’ve been curious this whole process, but that shipping fee really sparked my interest (as someone who is considering starting my own store/products).

These cat paintings are some of the best work you have done. Probably because its large scale, but they are awesome.
I love how excited you are about this! I truly hope there are no more issues with this box manufacturer though. There have been a few red flags throughout this whole adventure, but doubling your costs (even if it's the freight company's costs) is concerning. But! You're an amazing business woman and I know you got this shiz on lock and you know what you're doing 🤗 Just wishing the best for this passion project of yours!
Is higher postage around Black Friday really a thing? Sounds like bullshit to me. I can understand a possible longer postage time but here (UK) at least prices are a fixed amount regardless of the time of year.
I don't know, I'm just concerned that your getting scammed because they know you really want the product so waited for the last moment to jack up the price now you feel invested in the process. I could be wrong but the whole thing just gives me a bad feeling.
100% same... I feel like this manu is absolutely scamming the heck out of her because they know she has no other option at this point in time. They have been shady for basically the entire process and it really concerns me.

I've never had postage go up during Black Friday, in fact by their logic it should get cheaper. :/ The reason postage is expensive from China ATM is due to lack of flights, more parcels means more flights which means cheaper shipping. 🤷♀️
Not true for freight shipping. The costs fluctuate throughout the year based on supply and demand. It's the shipping company jacking up the cost.

I follow a beauty UA-camr who searched for sponsors for an advent calendar as well as put their own manufactured products into it - and it took them (with little assistance, so basically a two-women-show) MORE THAN a WHOLE YEAR to prep. So whatever comes out of this advent calendar - you can really be frikking proud of what you made! We all get to see just how much work it really is! D: fun, but really time-consuming work 💪✨

That’s so much for shipping them. Honestly I’d just drop the advent calendar idea and just package all 12 items in a box like you usually do for your store stuff
I would agree with this, but she would lose all the investment she's already made in the boxes thus far, and would probably lose even more. It's a pretty unfortunate situation, but I htink trying to haggle with them would make much more sense.
@@GracieLouYT the amount she would lose is way less than what she had to pay for shipping. It would probably be best to buy simpler custom boxes for this year and save the cardboard ones for next year. Them she try again, but with more time.
yeah this manufacturer seems very unprofessional, if it were me baylee, id tell him to stick the boxes where the sun don't shine! id rather wait until next year to buy a product you're happy with (in all aspects) then buy one where someone has forced you to pay more than double original estimate. its highway robbery. dump them and try again later.

Baylee, your brother and his wife will absolutely love the cat portraits you got them of their fur babies. Also I find it funny that even after the vid I cant get over that moss with the stones like that. 😆 I absolutly adore moss and how magical it can make things appear. 💜😁

Since they took so long to make your boxes they should pay part off that shipping since the delay caused an increase in prices.

Baylee. When the varnish dries, remove a little bit in the area you want your signature to go, then re-apply the varnish in that spot once the varnish has dries. If you sign over the varnish and then apply another coat of varnish you risk the signature being removed if the top layer of varnish needs to be removed and re-applied. I also wouldn't advise using acrylics on top.

If you need to raise the price of the boxes to help with the increased shipping costs I don't think anyone would fault you for it. The manufacturer does sound like he's bullshitting you though, so maybe argue the cost or wait until after the "black friday" price increase

How do you clean your brushes after you use them to varnish?
A solvent like mineral spirits/turpentine/gamsol.
The specific varnish will have instructions :) Some don't need to be cleaned, you just use that same brush every time you varnish.

Gamvar does not require brush cleaning. Not sure how, but that's what the instructions say.

But if she ever does make a box again, she should go with another manufacturer. This one did cause a lot of problems.

Just a tip from watching so much of a painting restoration channel:When putting on varnish, it is recommended to lay it on in the same direction. I don't know if you showed the whole thing so maybe I'm just telling you stuff you already know lol.

Honestly it’s already delayed and now you need to pay double the amount for the boxes. I know you announced it but this was planned so last minute, no wonder it’s not working.
I think everyone is gonna understand if you don’t do it and pick it up again next year! Just sell the items separately and make that the store launch! You gonna make a greater profit that way as well.
I just think business wise this is a really terrible idea to pay this much. I would cut my losses and pick it up later.
As I said, we all have seen the vlogs, people will understand if this isn’t working out right now.

(Also I see people calling out your manu in the comments for being “slow” and “scamming you”. But guys you really have to understand that this is not necessarily the manufacturers fault. Making prototypes can take a lot of time and getting an estimate is only gonna hold up if everything runs smoothly, which it doesn’t most of the time when making new products! Making these boxes in 2 months was super ambitious and let’s be real the shipping cost is not the manus fault and IF it is the manus fault, she shouldn’t just accept the price increase but find a compromise instead of just paying)
That's a bit dramatic. It's $1600 out of the tens of thousands I will profit. Aborting the project because of that would be a dumb decision.

It’s still a huge amount of money that you could save by not rushing it like this.

@@HosannaRider If the manufacturer is based in the U.S. and is using USPS to ship it is likely due to the fact that shipping costs were raised on October 15th due to the upcoming holidays. I know that things I have shipped has cost almost double what it normally would have cost to ship.

The cat paintings are so good Baylee, you’ve done a fantastic job.
Top tip for boiling veg though: anything that grows in the ground (potatoes, carrots etc) should be placed in cold water then brought to the boil, for veg that grow on top (peas, beans, cabbage etc) should be placed in boiling water. They will taste better. 😉

This is a genuine question, because I usually use spray varnish. Are you supposed to brush varnish on in one direction? Or is it better to apply it in multiple directions as shown here? I would worry that might cause streaking, but I could also see that being necessary to work around the texture.
