This is the build we have all been waiting for low key.
I’ve been high key waiting lmao
Still waiting on the green Silverado to be done but still stoked for this build.
@halfameatballz for real, I wish he would just buy a set of bogarts for the truck already. That and a paint job and the truck would be sick. Maybe a simple cage in the truck some decent seats. I don't think the truck did well for views that's why it got back burner.
I’m waiting for him to clean the windshield
That’s what I’m saying!
Just lost my grandma 2 days ago. Definitely enjoy the time you have with them.
Lost mine last Tuesday from cancer so I know the feeling ❤
Sorry for your loss.
My friend died the same day as your grandma. You’re 100% right, enjoy the time with friends and family. Time and things happen.
I lost my grandma this past March. Both grandparents on my dad's side have been gone for a while, but they were in another state so I wasn't super close to them. This was the first time I've lost someone so close to me. She's been my neighbor my entire life (30 years) so it's been a hard hit on me and the whole family. Her and my grandpa have been the centerpiece basically of the family.
I spent a lot of time with them, but I still feels like I didn't spend enough. I've definitely been trying to cherish the time I have left with my grandpa since then.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Love the fact that Josue personality starting to shine through. He’s gotten so much more comfortable on camera. He’s a cool dude.
I dont think there's a single friend of Taylor's thats been on the channel that rubbed me the wrong way. I feel like Taylor is one of those genuine ppl that is only friends with other genuine ppl.
I can forgive all that mess under the hood but that filthy windshield is triggering. lol... But seriously, can't wait to see Grandma drive it. Hope she's feeling better soon.
It's like that kid in school that always has dirty glasses. Gaaah, how do you even see?!?
I vote for for an old man's garage 427 small block chebby setup like he has in the red nova. I love ls engines but a street strip g-body with a cammed out sbc and some spray is a vibe!
I agree a cammed sbc would be a nice change of pace, as much as I love a ls swap Taylor already has 2 ls cars
Agreed, cammed sbc
Ayyyeeeee
I suppose it's been probably two or three years that I've been actively keeping up with Taylor's channel. In that short amount of time though he's become one of my favorite automotive youtubers. Top three for sure, I won't list them in order because I don't want to sound like a dick but keep on pushing brother
What a great car! I was a mechanic at a Chevy dealer when this year car was released. Worked on hundreds, SS and non SS. Although you have probably already fixed it, a few ideas I would throw out there. The temperature of the engine is critical for the ECU and TCU system. Second, sensors/senders are not all the same, I suggest getting the correct one. Radiator cap should be replaced, the pressure in the cooling system is very important to it maintaining the correct temperature and circulation. Replace the temperature sender for the dash gauge, I am willing to bet the sensor you were able to get on the road trip is actually the temp gauge sender. ( most auto parts stores would carry that, gauge and overheat light are different parts). The lockup issue is common. Ok, enough jibber jabber!
I'm not a mechanic, and this is my video here. Seeing as you are and know the car. Is there a vacuum line that goes to the trans and/or a wire? I know how crusty things can get down there. My experience is minimal, but I've been around cars a lot. I know Volvo had a wire that was always grounded out, and older domestic trucks have a vacuum line/solonard problem. Just a question, and yes, I know Volvo is not a good example. Now I'm jibber jabbering lol.
@@KPaul7 Greetings. Assuming you have a Turbo 350 trans (standard). There is a vacuum going to the transmission modulator (side of the trans) from the intake manifold. It controls when the trans shifts.
@roberta4989 thank you for responding. I must have thought I put first video but I forgot the first. Lol
That is exactly what I was referring to. So does the SS have that? Just curious and it was all I could think about when I was watching this video about the overdrive.
@@KPaul7 The vacuum is for shifting only. The lock-up has an electrical connection via a harness to the trans. That wiring schematic is available in repair manual. My memory tells me there was a transmission switch in some years. 4L60 or 700R4. You should be able to find that exact info out using VIN or other viewable differences.
Should be a 200-4R in ‘84. It has a Torque Converter Clutch solenoid in the trans. It also relies on the Throttle Position Sensor (in the drivers side front of the carb) to send a signal. And yes you can’t go too low on the thermostat temp or the computer will think the engine is still warming up and richen the mixture. The 305 H.O. had decent power for the era. True dual exhaust, replace the air cleaner tube to the rad support and a new O2 sensor and it will probably run really good.
I could watch Taylor at a car show all day. Like a kid in a candy store. 😊
The happy little "ha ha" cracks me up 😂
You are totally right. I don't have grandparents anymore and the memories I have of them from when I was a kid I will cherish forever. The older we get, the more we realize how important family is and spending time with them before we can't anymore.
Most likely it's the TCC Solenoid. No overdrive in the '84 SS. It wasn't available until 1985. The '83 & '84 SS got 3.42s with a TH350C and the '85 to '88 SS got 3.73s with the 200-4R.
Also in 83-84 NO factory posi available, that was sad.
I was waiting for someone to break the new of having no overdrive lol. I have a 84 ss as well, th350 with 3.42 gears and small factory tires= all the rpm’s
Rumor has it that the last 1984 SS cars to leave the assembly line did have the 200-4r overdrive but I’ve never seen one before. It would be a unicorn to find one. My 84 SS was 350 turbo and 3.42
@@charlieb308your info is incorrect. I've had 2 84s. Both had a factory posi.
@@bennapier9260 No, Posi traction wasn’t offered until late in 1985. I’ve seen many and owned 2 -1984 Monte’s and they didn’t have Posi. It’s extremely rare to even find an 85 with Posi. If you did have an 84 with Posi it would be a unicorn, I’ve never seen one and I asked on Monte Carlo groups, nobody had Posi…
Please keep a proper Small Block in that ride. Blueprint builds a great Small Block/ Transmission combo. Did you notice the cooling fan is mounted backwards? This car should have a Fan/Clutch combo and it appears that spacer and backwards fan have been installed.
I was also gonna remark that it looks like the fan (seen at 16:45) is on backwards.
Yes, keep it original small block. Someone probably put a reverse rotation fan on it at some point.
Frikin love taylors vids. Pulling up the old pics when referencing stuff is massively appreciated. Makes the stories so much more betterer
Yes, about time brother grandma’s car needs it. Plus you can make it a beast sleeper.
Awesome to see some Monte content again. It’s what brought me to your channel. My brother had an 86 Monte SS as his first car in the early 90s. Such a cool looking car. While slow, the 5.0 HO had a great sound.
crazy hearing things like this. i’ve been around watching taylor since the 350z
I've been watching for couple yrs. But my dad had diesel Monte back in late 80s early 90s 😊
I've been watching since he was still working for BC .
I’ve been watching Taylor since before he was on UA-cam. I remember sitting off by myself kind of hiding really watching him play little league or walking to school. Playing in his backyard with his little friends. Watching the lights go out at night and thinking about him in his pajamas
That is some solid advice. never take anyone for granted. Listen to your elders you never know when you dont have them anymore. Love the videos keep up the good work!
You're 100% right man. I've lost both of my parents, but still have both maternal grandparents. Papaw tells the same stories often, but ill listen and enjoy them as long as I still have him.
I lost my mother 7 years ago yesterday. Enjoy your loved ones while you have them. The time you soend with them is worth more than anything in the world when you don't have them any more.
I think it's awesome you are getting the ss already for your grandma's last hooray in her old car and I'm stoked for the build afterwards
I miss my grandparents lost my grandpa in nov 07 my great grandma in 09 and my grandma April of 18 and that one hit me hard it doesn't feel like its been almost 6 years ithink about her everyday i loved her stories she would tell me cherish the time you have with them 😢
The joy u show when talking about this car and your grandma is freaking awesome. Makes me think of my Grandmas who are gone . ❤
I had the same realization a month ago with my grandfather. The time i spent with him in the nursing home is irreplaceable. Hearing family stories is one of my favorite things now. So much so, i decided to start writing a book/journal for my kids. Glad to hear you have priorities straight. Love the content, keep this build going.
I have one grandparent left and I whole heartedly agree with you. Spend the time, listen to the stories, soak up the wisdom and enjoy yourself!
I would like to see this stay automatic and a built SBC. The LS just doesn't sound as good cammed as the firing order of a SBC. This is such a nice car to mod too much!
383 stroker?
Lost my parents and grandparents as well, wish I could listen to their stories. At least I remember some of them. They will always be with us.
My grandmother slash nanny just turned 90 she is a trooper!! Haven't seen her in a while. ❤
Perfect drag and drive vehicle.!
Respect 🫡
Famous last words “not going to be a race car”
Best life to you man.
That carb is known for the throttle blade shaft area to have bad vacuum leaks due to being worn out, id check that out n see if it leaks. And awesome car and love the videos!!!
Matt Happel inspired turbo LS/80E combo making 5-600 wheel would be fun non-race car build. One of Matt’s famous Don’t BS me builds for burnouts and ice cream
I'd watch the heck out of an Old Man's Garage collab. He brings you down a hopped up cheby mota. Get him out of the cold. Plus he's a guru at nitrous stuff.
A nitrous LS with a stalled 4l80 would be sick also.
I’m down!
29:38 the Kid-like giggles of T-Ray in the lowrider just brighten my mood
Stoked as hell to see Monte content been watching for years and cant wait to see this car get the love she deserves.
Lost my father a few years ago and it was really great to hear you talk about how we need to spend time with our families. Lesson we all learn to late, like you I’m glad I got to learn this lesson early in life. Thank you for being a real genuine dude! Love your content
The Monte always cracks me up. It looks like a 80ft coupe. You have someone standing at the front and someone standing at the back and they need 2 way radios to talk.
Love the video dude. Was interesting seeing you divulge some personal info in this one... you out of most YT'ers I actively follow dont tend to veer off the car content, so seeing you tie it into personal life a bit was classy if you ask me. Lost my grandma at 16, unlcle at 17 Dad at 28 and grandfather not short after my dad... Life is short, and the we best way we can honor them is to keep the memories fresh... and the way cars can do that is crazy to me. Idk how some ppl arent car folks. lol I still wish i had my 98 mustang my grandma promised me when she bought it in 98.... wasn't special, V6, auto... but to me... it kinda is now.
its always good to spend time with your family cause when there gone there gone and theres no way to hear the storys or even to say you love them
Knipex cobras really are worth every single penny. Have three sizes and two sets of each. One set for the garage and another for the service truck. No other pliers compares.
Both my parents are gone. That hit home. My condolences!
I love seeing this type of content on the channel! Classic Muscle is my thing! I even own a 1972 Mustang.
It's neither a classic nor a "muscle".
Nice interior on that SS. Perfect candidate for a build.
Time is the most valuable thing. Bless you for being a good grandson. /edit
Great video as usual! I’m enjoying the longer form on the recent videos, it’s like we are just hanging out with you. Keep up the good work!
The first two cars my mother bought on her own were both Monte Carlo's .. One white, and one black. I'm excited for this.
Yes, vacuum leak fixed. That should help with the high idle.
It’s the little things like listening to stories that mean the most, I definitely miss my Grandparents and Dad , I only have my mom left and I cherish every moment, Thanks Taylor for everything you do ❤
Needed to see this juss lost my grandma yesterday keeping my head up but man i can’t believe this definitely cherish every moment u have with grandparents
Loving this build Taylor. I was able to get my late Grandfather's 1st gen Ford Explorer. I have done a ton of work to it, and have future plans converting it to 4wd (yes, they sold 1st gen Explorers 2wd, he lived in SoCal) and keep it forever. I remember him driving me around town when I was a little kid.
You talk about your grandma tell stories makes me miss my mom, she used to tell me stories about all the people she hung out with Street Racing and stuff back in the 60’s, she had met pretty much all the big time nhra drivers that were around in the 80’s before they were big time. I even heard of Woodward Avenue before roadkill brought it back. She was a cool lady. Wish I could of heard of more of them. Life is so precious!
Man this thing would be so badass ripping through the tail of the dragon on a roadster speed shop chassis making Nascar sounds. 😂
Don’t tempt me now!
@Taylordrifts Ohhh, I'm hoping I do. Those chassis are so cool. I'd be willing to bet it only takes one visit to their site, and you won't be able to help yourself. 😂
Would be sick to go road race style. Get some sticky tires and carve some mountain roads and some road race tracks.
It wouldn't be as fast on the strip as a Drag Setup but it also wouldn't be slow. Could still do Drag 'n' Drives.
@@TaylordriftsYou know you want to.......If you build it, views will come.....!!
Wow. They look really nice . Only problem is I was playing around with there website and am looking at 60,000$
Been excited for this build! That interior is VERY nice!
Very cool that you bring food to your grandma. I also visit with my grandparents, I try for once a week and I sure enjoy it.
Grandparents are awesome.
Dude I had no idea you already lost ur folks. Brother the fact you've accomplished what you have despite the loss you've endured is honestly super inspiring. ALL the respect brother. I hope everyone is resting peacefully. And dude....PLEASE stay small block. Just do a holley port injection manifold, terminator x, add a crank trigger to make it coil on plug. Port match everything super perfect, do some CNC ported aluminum heads with hydro lifters, good valvetrain with an aggressive lift and duration cam without an LSA that's gonna make it idle like a race car. Build yourself some equal length long tubes into an x pipe, then stick that new tremec tkx in it. That transmission weighs 75 lbs bro. I own one for my 460whp small block ford swapped 318i. The thing is SUUUUPER stout man. I fully recommended it.
Thank you and my favorite build since the Miata.
I had a 87 SS, bought a reman 350 shortblock, added a street performance cam, put the 305 heads on it. Got the trans and converter rebuilt with a shift kit. Man it was a torture monster.
Still hard to believe he is gone… RIP 43 ❤
I've been waiting to see some content on this G body. I had no idea where it came from (I'm sure I missed the video) but I am a child of this era and can't wait for it to come alive!
YOU ALL HAVE SOME GREAT FUN!!!!!!! LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR GRANNYS CAR BUILD, I SO WAITING FOR THE 2ND FLOOR BUILD IN SHOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEOS DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yesss, finally a new Monte Carlo video. I'm fired up!
Definitely wish i could have done this with my grandparents. Cherish the time and moments with them.
Love I build and love the history behind it, I’m in the middle of getting my grandfathers 56 Chevy back together so he can drive it before he can’t, keep those loved ones close ❤
Yessss been patiently waiting brings back childhood memories
My favorite car interior ever is the square and blue GM interior from that era.
Taylor you might want to check your TV cable. I had an 84 fire bird with the same power train in it. Tv cable on the carb goes down to the trans and when that gets stretched or frayed the car won’t go back into overdrive after it’s down shifted into passing gear. The trans will shift perfect 1-3 but won’t hit O/D.
The 84 SS didn't have overdrive. It's a TH350C (electronic lockup). The overdrive transmission (200-4R) didn't debut until 1985.
I had a 1981 Malibu that was stolen from me about 10 years ago. Watching you working on this car is so nostalgic. I love the interiors in G body’s, especially during the night just cruising. Unmatched. Enjoying this series so far and looking forward for what’s to come!
So awesome that you talked to John from Ludwicks garage! Absolutely love his channel too!
It was great hanging out and chatting about the BMW 700 man! Stoked to hangout again hopefully soon!
been looking forward to this project!
The way Taylor talks about listening to his grandmother- he's just a very smart man.
Looking forward to this build
I think you should do a mild build personally. Like TrickFlow heads long tubes single plane intake and a ATM carburetor and some cherry bomb mufflers and a isky cam. I feel like it can be a very streetable setup
Yeah this mint of a car doesn’t need an ls stock motor with some upgrades would be nicer imo
Boomtube NASCAR-esque w/ manual. You'll love it. Remember Garrett's Dale Truck? That thing brought so many smiles
Those classic 15" rally sport wheels really takes you back....
Hey Taylor, you figured out the fuel cap trick to hold the license plate down (seems like most people don't). But also, if you grab a license plate holder from a 91-96 GM B Body (Caprice) it has a "stay down" license plate holder.
Ok I got that life lesson about listening better thank you Mr Ray
FYI rear fill tanks will leak with good traction, unless you have a good cap. God thing I had a friend behind me after putting drag radials on my 68 Camaro. I'd like to see that SBC tweaked/tuned up but LS are just so user friendly and good.
the monte carlo is the only reason i am subbed MORE MONTE CARLOOOOOOOOOOOO
I have an 87 Lincoln Town car 70,0000 original miles and it drives smoother and quieter than any other vehicle I've ever ridden in. And everything still works on it
I think you would be surprised tinkering with that 305... They're not gonna be some huge HP monster. But, decent, enjoyable daily power... Dude, they'll do that ALL day.
That stop leak actually works I put it in my Outback and it lasted another year
My grandma passed passed in 2022. I’d give anything to talk to her one more time. Sure do miss her. ❤️
I have a 85 Monte SS I got from the original owners wife. 83k miles. I'm not a youtuber so I don't have much content on it. But I did put a cammed 350 in it and have slowly been tinkering with it. I also have a 79 Elco roller. But I'm glad to finally see your Monte come back to life. I grew up around these cars too. Keep the memory aalive. Long live hot rodding
A set of lightning rod shifters would be way cooler than a manual transmission. Like the 1984 Oldsmobile 442 had. Kilduff shifter make some pretty cool lightning rod shifters.
Pretty sure the rpm vs speed issue is more related to you having too small of tires on it than the transmission. Just something to consider.
yeah those aren't the right tire size 🤣
Nah even then my truck on 29" tires runs 2500rpm at 84mph...doing 2500 at 50 is insane lol thats 100% not going into 4th gear. It should be doing 2500 at 70+ even on those tires
@@Shadow0fd3ath24either way, having the wrong size tires isn’t doing him any favors. I can’t say I’ve messed with an 84 monte, but I know having the wrong tire size can make autos do all kinds of weird stuff.
A quick search. An 84 Monte should be running a 26" tall tire.
Though yes the wrong size can mess with things once you start modifying a vehicle.
@@Shadow0fd3ath24 I’m pretty sure it’s got a 3speed auto
FINALLY I HAVE BEEN WAITING SOOOO LONG TO SEE THIS
I couldn't stop Staring at the headliner. It's perfect! (or perfect on camera)
No g body still has a factory headliner
1st thing you're a good man spending time with family 2nd the bmw looks f n sick!! And when you stopped at the gas pump I laughed so hard I already new you fucked up! Keep it up man and thanks!
Awesome video so excited for this build!!!
Keep it auto. A chill cruiser that can hold its own in a casual drag race.
Been waiting for this Taylor! Dope.
GForce T56 magnum drag and drive monster , for sure . Best of both worlds. 1-4 faceplated with highway 5-6 dream 😎
Bar's leak is made in my home town. I've driven several vehicles back to Michigan from Florida. I have yet to drive one back that didn't have cooling system issues when it got to the cold weather here. That 2000 mile comment with no issues and a local run with issues when you get home happened to me today.
6.2 LS, ZL1 2500 stall converter, 6L80, E38 ECU, and N2O baby.
That is a nice looking Monte Carlo SS. I always wanted one of them when I was a Teen!
I've been waiting four your grandma's car to get some love.
I'm glad you got to meet Ludwig's garage! I've been following his builds for years and they're some of my all time favorites. Maybe some day we can have the pleasure of seeing you take some inspiration from his awesome builds :)
Been waiting for this video since you introduced the car!!
I've owned 4 F body's , never owned a G body . But the Monte Carlo has always been one that I wanted to own . My first car was a 1977 Camaro , and that was the newest car that I've ever owned . It was 9 years old when I bought it , and now I'm driving a 20-year-old Ranger . I don't feel or act like I'm an old man , but I have had my license for 35 years .
Cobras are the best pliers I’ve ever used. Once you get them to lock down you can literally stand on them without slipping.
The SS deserves a nice ZL1 engine, even if it’s in it stock configuration for reliability and longevity.
I just got a 86 monte carlo ss so I'm really excited to see this build and Tayler was 100% right he hit it on the nose mine has a crate 350 with a 4 barrel edelbrock
I love this long vids man, great work. greets Roy from Holland.
