i'm gonna be honest here and it may challenge the ideals of a lot of people....but listening to this synth, it's right up there with any of the high end flagship synths like the ModX and Montage...I mean it's prestine, sheen, crisp, lush, sharp, warm, fat, dynamic in sonic range, various in patch capability. Sheesh. I'm actually blown away.
People don’t bother learning how to program them. And the Reface is even vastly simpler to program than the old DX line was. In 2018 I was choosing between buying a Reface CS, DX, CP or YC. In the end I went with the DX, and I managed to program analog synth sounds (like the CS), electric piano sounds (all the sounds in the CP), and tone wheel and combo organ sounds (that I would have gotten with the YC). Not to mention complex moving pads and other sounds I never would have been able to achieve with 90% of any analog synths. I’ve even created CS80 sounds that you could never manage to recreate with any analog synth that does not have series lows and high pass filters. I certainly made the right choice. I can’t take anyone who would diss the DX, as a serious synthesist.
@@ianalen1687 Sorry, I would, but I’m not set up for uploading video content. I’ve got FM programming down, but ironically I’m not great with navigating computer stuff.
Some very nice sounds on this video, it kinda surprised me because most videos on the DX are very jazzy and with full tines and bell like sounds which I really do love but the stuff you are playing in your video could well be used in films, the pads are great. I got mine just last week and it’s a learning curve for sure, the instruction manual I got was totally useless and a waste of paper in my opinion so I have come to the web to see what others are playing but your video has surprised me big time but as I already said I really do like it Many thanks Glen 🎹🥃👍
Great video on this amazing synth. Hard to believe how cheap you can pick these up for considering what they are capable of. I control mine with my Yamaha SY77 most of the time but even the stock keys are very nice for on the go jamming around the house.
I was thinking of getting the CS but watching this makes me think that this can do what the CS does and more. Are you playing only the synth clean with no after peddal effects connected?
No this can't do what the CS does. I've created an entire drum kit on the CS including an 808 cowbell and clave, rimshot etc. Try doing that on the DX. Plus you can't get that smooth liquid moog type bass. Like the one used on MJS Thriller on a DX. You can on the CS. Each have their strengths. But I will take the CS all day. It's basically a more compact Juno 106. But the DX is more like a DX11 than a DX7. Not a bad thing. But not on the same level as the CS. I will be uploading several demos of the CS in 2023. Keep an eye out for them. Then you will understand what I am saying. Nobody has yet shown the FULL potential of the REFACE CS like I'm about to.
@@888Winkler Yes sir check my channel from around mid January. And if you like any of the patches I'm using. I will share the settings with you. Some general patch tutorials and show how quickly you can go from one patch to another. So why I neither use software or worry about no onboard user memories. I can write down the settings for a new sound in less than a minute. Or take a screenshot. And it's always quality over quantity. I have some amazing patches already such as Metropolis and Space TWISTER and Dreampad. Gonna be a great year for the REFACE CS. I'm gonna raise more interest in this very underrated gem.
@@desafinad0 to be fair the CK61 looks more like a CP and YC together. It merges both perfectly, and brings some FM and VA sounds to complete the basics. I tested one and it's incredible! But I would still buy a CS/DX to be together with the CK61.
It is especially on the.KORG OPSIX. One guy programmed an entire drum and bass track on a single patch on that amazing synth. And each of the 6 operators can be a different sound. It's next level.

14:46-16:50 That was magical
Always the user on most synths. What sounds like a toy in one person's hands. Will sound like a legend in another's.

Got this puppy dog coming in the mail tomorrow. Thanks for the video!
@Play Everyday Please, does it have any Eq controls, low mid, highs ?
Still happy with it?

For on the go jamming around the house lol
ALSO...........can I 1/4" out and run it into my Amp ???????
Yes obviously
That wood ep is sonic gold
I like the Bach toccata passages with this dark sound, this sound very doom !!!! arround 20m40 etc
One thing i havent found yet - can you just store patches on the Reface DX itself, without the need of any external app/device?
Yes you can

Have you looked at the DX7? 😮

Great video ! I have some questions :
How many presets are in there ? Is there only 32 slots available ? Can you dump any sysex in there ?
32. Yes, unfortunately. No, but there is a site for sharing patches.
I use MIDI-OX on PC to transfer Sysex to and from the DX.
I wonder what the settings are for woodEp.
Some music sounds, anointed. Thanks, for the awesome demo!
I think I'will buy this item .and praise the Lord.

Does this have all the original presets from the original Yamaha DX7?
No this is 4 op. The DX7 is 6 op. This is more on par with a DX11/DX100. The onboard effects beef up the sound and make it sound bigger.
24:32 what’s that preset called? Beautiful
Sound Travis Scott a little
Acoustic piano sound no?
Look for the Reface CP and the "Secret Acoustic Piano" it might be your best answer
Can we same or patch ? Someone can explain to me why we can't on Reface CS ? So sad....

I guess if you wanna do drum n bass or Dubstep, FM synthesis is the way to go! ;)

Absolutely, every bass genre uses FM bass patches in some fashion. FM can do pretty much any kind of sound you can think of, it's insane.
I need more of this patch at 8:52

Can this do Drums ??????????????????????????? someone plz tell me if so i will be buying this unit.
I’m sure you could possibly synthesize your own drum sounds but it doesn’t come with drums as far as I know
